What is this I'm hearing about people giving a modder crap for making a Cassandra female romance mod?

The big question is... why is it an issue what people do with their games?

It's none of anybody's goddamned business.

Now wouldn't the world be a much nicer place if we all minded our own ****** business?

/end rant

but where is the line?
turning everyone playersexual again because some people can't get over the fact that even in games people have different sexualities?

insulting the modder of course wasn't right but I still think that its wrong to change the sexuality even if its a character in a game
I know some who wanted Sera as a option for their male Inquisitors so what should they just "change" her via mod?

same with skin colors I also remember a Isabella mod that turned her white
or before DA I release some people were turning Dorian and Vivienne white via photoshop to show how much "better" they looked
to be honest thats quite disgusting

They did do that.  See ME3 and Samantha Traynor.  There was a mod to make her 'straight' and 'gay' people did flip their shite about it.  My first post in this thread mocks that.

It's definitely hypocritical and shouldn't happen, but I can see where they are coming from (before the hyperbolic rage)

There are way less LGBT characters in video games compared to straight ones. It's understandable given the reality of the situation, but some people heavily relate to those characters as a role model of sorts. Changing them is analogous to sacrilege in their eyes.

Furthermore, ACTUALLY homophobic people will download this mod and be free from a gay character, rather than interact with them as they are and understand them. This can understandably make people who are concerned with the realities of LGBT representation upset.

Also, sexual orientation is part of one's character. It's not a shallow phenotype like skin or hair color. This is a reflection of gay-straight conversion that still happens nowadays.  Some of these people may have been subject to such torture and would be rather vocal against such mods.

So while there is definitely a hypocrisy here, I don't think it should be treated with disdain.

I agree with this, I think it's fine to have a debate/argument but don't act vitriol and send death threats. That's taking things way too far

It's not just about minding one's own business.  If someone sees something that is in violation of the TOS, by all means be a good citizen and report it.  Just don't resort to internet terrorism by threatening and intimidating the person who created and published something you don't like, or agree with.

It's about tolerance, and accepting that other people enjoy something that you might feel strongly against.  It's a much bigger social problem because unfortunately, in our society, everyone seems to think they are 100% right and refuse to see the other side, or another POV.  Then these people complain about characters like Sera for being too stubborn and refusing to accept other people's views.  The world isn't always black and white, people need to take a step back and calm the F down.

Mate I agree one hundred percent.

Unfortunately, people do see everything in "black and white".. and don't understand the "grey areas" so to speak.

What's right for me, may be wrong for you and vice versa.

It's all a little complex... too overwhelming for some.

So my point is... pick your battles wisely. Fight if it's worth fighting for. Something such as, for example, what people do to mod their own games, in the space of their own privacy, or "naked wimmenz on top tier items", or  "request for gender-neutral dialogue" in games.. is just pathetic, whiny and quite frankly, makes me wish that abortions were mandatory, in some cases.

For instance; I love Sera. I see people whine about her day in, day out... but most of the time I ignore it. It just isn't worth getting shitty or wasting the time and effort to type an argument. Hell, why do I care if people don't like her anyway? It's a subjective thing. I love her, so F everyone else in that regard.. it doesn't matter. I don't like Solas, yet I don't make thread after thread complaining about every single so-called flaw I can conjure up with my mind.. I just don't see the point.

From a diff perspective.. I'm attracted to this subject matter like flies to turd. I am greatly amused by all of this.

Hmm, not sure what to feel about this.....

Hypothetically, I would not mind if there was a modder who made a Samantha Traynor Male Romance mod......

What would that mean for me?

I see your point.

But at the end of the day... it really is nobody else's business. Maybe said person shouldn't have really "advertised" what they did, so to speak.

The moral subject there, is very blurred. I agree on that.. however, like somebody above said, it isn't like they're hurting anybody. They are doing something that ultimately benefits them and affects nobody else. It really isn't worth the effort getting all hot and bothered about it.

Definitely. That's taking the issue way out of proportion. I feel really badly for this modder.

I don't necessarily agree with those sort of mods though I can see why they are made, but modders gonna mod and I don't have to download it.

(Though tbh, I would have liked to have been able to romance Cassandra with a female PC, but I don't think I could deal with the awkward animations and being referred to as a guy.  I love her as she was written).

That's how I feel.

I stuck it out for Kaidan and karma rewarded me with the best romance arc I've had in a video game yet.

If they wanna change it instead of making a male to romance her then more power to them. If they beat the game 7 times and just for kicks wanna make sera straight can we really complain if there canon play was with a female inquisitor and sera romance? if it ups your replay value of the game mod away. as long as these people know you can't mod a person in real life which they do because at the end of the day its a game. If your homophobic i doubt playing this game will change your views if the real world failed. U can just not recruit those characters while in my opinion a close minded and silly reason but i won't stop you from supporting a game i love. Why bash a person for have fun with a game just because they are not playing with the toys the way the designer wanted doesn't mean they can't have fun. Some people really wanted to romance cass as a girl and i am sure whoever is using the mods have already did a dry run of the game. It doesn't make them pro or anti anything mods are suppose to make the game fun for that person if u don't like it don't download and support it simple don't bash someone else's freedoms. Im not gonna download it because thats not my thing but i sure as heck isn't going to criticize someone's hard work to have fun with a game we both like.

I'm pretty sure that mod already exists.

There's a clear distinction between changing a companion's sexuality because you're a big fan of theirs and you think they'd hook up perfectly with your PC, and changing their sexuality because the dev-assigned one "is wrong." This is clearly an example of the former and that's complimentary to the NPC and their writer, designer and performer, if you ask me.

Anyway, this modder's detractors sound like extremely maladjusted people (in other words--sigh, internet).

I have to disagree with this one point.

Ignorance is the real culprit here. A significant proportion of homophobic people who interact with LGBT people eventually stop being homophobic.

Being exposed to positive depictions of LGBT people through any form of media is more than enough to get the ball rolling.

If someone want to use this type of mods they are free to try, however i personally believe that mods like this affect the game in a bad way by changing the behaviour of a character, in DAO was even more hilarious with Morrigan or Alistair.
I personally like mods that add quality to the game ((armors, aesthetic, atmosphere improvement)) without disturbing it's core, next time what will ask the fans a Corypheus romance in which he and the Inquisitor will fly to the black city with the archdemon?

Why does it matter what other people do in their game?

People talk about headcanons and the only "canon" they care about is the one in their save, but when one player decides his/her headcannon has Cassandra as a bi, then everything goes to ****. Well who do these people think they are? They can't just go around telling people what to do.

Do these people not realize that this won't even exist outside of DAI right? When you're fixing your choices in the Keep, it's not going to let you pick Cassandra as a romance if you have a female Inquisitor.

I used to think the world had something wrong in it, tried different ideologies, but now I realize Inquisition is the thing wrong in the world, get rid of it and everything is fine. So this get along talk will make sense. Without Inquisition we would have musulims and christians dancing to jewish music and praising buda.
