I've been doing a nightmare difficulty playthrough, and got to this boss fight last night.  I had some weird behaviour with my ranged members taking tons of damage for no apparent reason and was wondering if anyone could clue me into what happened.

The weirdness only happened in the first quarter or so of the fight that's basically the nightmare floating around slashing at people.  That accounts for some of the damage, but not even close to all of it.  I'm pretty sure that the boss hadn't started spawning the little spiders yet, so they weren't causing it.  I know the boss has a spell that puts a yellow circle on the ground and does damage after a couple seconds, but I saw no evidence of that happening (unless it wasn't displaying correctly).  The only other thing I can think of is if there was poison ground dealing damage to anyone not standing on the raised plateau in the center, but again, I saw nothing to suggest that that was the case.

Once the boss started calling reinforcements, whatever was happening stopped, and the battle got way easier.

That fight was very glitchy for me. The first time I killed him so fast that he didn't die properly, and just floated there and I was unable to do anything else. Second fight my rogue couldn't hit him and had trouble moving towards him (had to bunny hop just to move) so I focused on the spiders while just letting my companions attack him. Third time I had no issues.

He puts a really, really damaging DOT on an individual party member from time to time.

You can tell it's on them by switching to that character and seeing an extra little icon in their status effect tray. I think they may also briefly turn purple when he casts it? Or he gets this yellow webbing around his head right before he picks a target? Don't remember, exactly, been a while since I did that fight. There's definitely a tell, because I remember that moment of tension every time I saw it.

Anyway, that effect needs to be dispelled the very instant you know it's on someone. On Nightmare, it will kill the unlucky target very rapidly.
