romancing nobody

Which leaves him with no one. Does the game accommodate that? Has anyone gone through the game with no love interest and want to share their opinion of it? I don't really care about spoilers.

Sure the game accomodates that. Romances are only a small part of the overall story. If you're in a romance, the other characters would occassioanlly reference it. If you're not, they won't. That's pretty much the extent of it.
There's also one particular scene where a LI would approach Hawke

I never take part in romances when playing DA2 and I don't feel like I'm missing out. I once managed to do a full playthrough while romancing Merrill, and aside from her changing her outfit (to a much better one IMO) and having a few additional lines of dialogue, there's not much difference. IMO the romances are very poorly executed in this game. After three years of knowing these people, Hawke and their prospective LI finally decide to sleep together... which leads to the LI either moving in with Hawke or the relationship ends immediately? Huh?
Anyway, my advice is to not force this if you aren't interested. You'll enjoy the game more.

I did a couple playthroughs without romancing anyone. I didn't mind it.

My first/canon playthrough was stag. To me the friendships are as powerful as the romances, so I didn't feel cheated.

I'm about half way through the second act of my first playthrough, and I don't think any of these messed up people are romanceable. My hawke is a sarcastic male rogue with a downplayed ethical side. As much as I'd like to say I'm that open minded I can't bring myself to initiate romance with Anders or Fenris, so although he's friendly with them their issues are irrelevant. But Isabela and Merrill are just... awful, and he's rivals with both of them. I know there are rival romances but Isabela is a smelly selfish ******, and Merrill's naivety about demons and blood magic makes her a disaster waiting to happen. I would rather they get the hint that their bull doesn't fly with Hawke than flirt, it just wouldn't make sense to me.

Yeah romances are optional there isn't a rule that says you have to do one it's entirely your decision I didn't romance anyone in my first playthrough either. Although I did become close friends with both Fenris and Anders. I think given I'm thinking of going through as a female Hawke I may hook up with Fenris on my next run to see what happens. I was a male first time round and didn't want my first romance in the game to be a gay one. Not that I'm against gay relationships as I have had romances with Cortez and Traynor on ME3. I just didn't want it for my first run.

You can flirt with Aveline, who is the sanest of the bunch. All the flirts go right over her head, which is funny. And you can even flirt while you are helping her to woo the guy she marries. That's what I would do in your place.
I can't bring myself to romance Merrill or Isabella either. Merrill seems "off" and I don't want to catch anything from Isabella. Not crazy about Fenris so I always romance Anders, which as crazy as anything can be. ![]()

My mage Hawke was single.. It felt a bit like Bethany. I couldn't help but play her as a virginal type of character, who was more duty bound than everyone else (except maybe Aveline). With the aptly named Robes of Unblemished Cleanliness as my end game gear. ![]()
I've sorted of settled on my rogue Hawke as my canon though. I romanced Anders, but personally, I think Izzy is the best of the bunch.

You're not the only one with those issues OP.
The LIs of DA2 are in one way other another bats**t crazy and ill-suited to a romance. My mundane female Hawkes did romance Fenris though while my female mage Hawkes romanced Anders but it was more out of routine and going through the motions than real interest. (Opposed to DAO and the ME series.)
My male Hawke romanced Merril as Isabela..... ugh. Merril isn't too bad by DA2 standards.

My first playthrough was Fenris all the way. My current Hawke, on the other hand, is anything but decisive. He went from Isabela, to Anders, to Fenris.
(The best part was that after telling Isabela it was just for fun, he walked into Anders' clinic to find Anders telling Isabela not to come back to him for treatment of any more such diseases.

Yeah, the DA2 romances are terrible.
I wish I could have romanced Tallis. She's the best possibility for romance for my Hawke.

Isabela is the only [non-DLC] one I really like, but it's nice to see someone else who enjoys Tallis' character when it seems like a cool thing to hate on her. I thought she was a lot of fun.

Tallis is fun, I just haven't been able to bring myself to romance her yet. Maybe with my current Hawke. (Poor Fenris is going to have to put him on a leash...)

I prefer it just going as far as teasing flirts myself, especially if Isabela is in the group. I like Tallis' dialogue about her being jealous.

You joking?
I found that "Not romancing anyone in DA2" easiest thing ever because the ones we got as our LI's have never appealed to me one bit at all.

My female rogue Hawke begin romancing Fenris, but gave up in Act II, after he broke up with her 10 minutes after they had sex.
She later killed him in epilogue, but the game didn't really acknowledge that, saying that all eventually left Hawke's side, except Fenris
. I had to put in Keep that they didn't have the romance to fix that.
My characters didn't romance anyone in my first plathrough of ME1, ME2, ME3, DA2and DAI (DAO being the exception). Romance are competely optional. I wish this aspect of Bioware games wanst that much overemphasized. What used to be almost a cool suprise is now a crutch that people then overanalyse. I can't imagine the reaction if a new Bioware game didn't include romances now.
The sad thing is that romance dialogue is still worse than it was in Baldur's Gate II, even after putting so much emphasis on it.
The ones in Inquisition seem to be better, but it still feels for me, like all those cutscenes, facial expressions and animations became a crutch for bad writing.
And this issue touches more than just romances.

It's good to know that I'm not the only one who feels that way. (says the woman who somehow can't stop playing DA2 anyway, and whose characters keep throwing themselves at the LIs... yeah, I'm a hopeless romantic at heart.)

Also had a few games where no one was romanced, though I did do them in some games. I had a problem with the idea of rival romances and they were all way to messed up for me to be entertained by them. Finris felt too much like a one night stand for my peace of mind and Anders, well I have one mage who agreed with him, everyone else killed him. Merrill and Issabella were romances once but I liked them much better as friends.
I actually liked Sebastian best. He had issues, but they seemed mild compared to the others. Had him retake Starkhaven.
First BW game this has happened in since Anomen and I hope it's the last. I don't mind a troubled romance but I don't want every one of them to be this messed up. I've enjoyed the DAI ones so far.

I didn't mind the flirting with Tallis even with Isabela at my side. I did like that she had throwing knives as a skill.

The whole idea of rivalmance is a serious WTF for me. It just doesn't sound like the relationship is going to turn out particularly healthy. (Especially with Fenris, given his background.)
