Nothing complicated. Just that since you said "characters like these" I interpreted it as being a quality that all these characters share that you dislike. I was inclined to assume that it was their lascivious reputations you were referring to.

Oh. Well yeah I don't like that about them either but that wasn't what I was referring to. Didn't realize that was what you meant by "extremely liberated".

This is what I though Hanako's point was initially.

At least there has always been counter balance to that. For Zevran, Leliana. For Isabela, everyone else. For Iron Bull, Josephine.

I would certainly not mind less promiscuous characters, especially when they reinforce negative stereotypes.

Eh, a real balance would be having a promiscuous person who's not bisexual (preferably straight since gay men and women also suffer from being hyper sexualized). At the moment in Dragon Age, not all bisexuals are promiscuous, but all promiscuous people are bisexual. It's still perpetuating a pretty damaging stereotype and the laziness of using it three games in a row astounds me.

I do see your point.

My only counter to it would be the matter of perception regarding whether the sexual behavior of the characters in question is actually intended and/or interpreted as negative.

That's a matter of perspective really

I don't view being promiscuous or flirty as a negative stereotype, though Bioware should have it be a straight or gay character in the future

That's what I was trying to say, but I think you said it better. I don't believe that in the case of any of these characters, they're flirtatious or actively sexual natures is written as a negative.

It's more of a character trait than being tied to their sexuality

But I do understand the complaint about it always being a Bi character

It seems like there's two things happening in the conversation:

1.)  Promiscuity isn't a negative by itself and none of the promiscuous characters in DA have been intentionally portrayed with their promiscuity being a negative.

and

2.)  All of the promiscuous characters have been bisexual and, in fact, that trope makes up about half of the bisexual characters in the series.  Given that there is a negative stereotype in the real world around bisexual promiscuity, it would be nice for them to have some promiscuous non-bisexual characters in order to just reinforce that it's not something unique to bisexuals.

It seems like it's the balance of:  one one hand, promiscuity isn't negative, but on the other hand, when it's associated with a group that it's often used as a negative, it can have that unintentional subtext to it.

Sooooooo.......promiscuous straight female dwarf in the next game?

Zevran, the elf.

Isabela, the human.

The Iron Bull, the qunari.

It might be coincidence...Still. Thoughts?

What about Ogrhen?

Apparently Oghren didn't sleep around enough to be noteworthy...

Actually, It's more because Oghren didn't have enough sex appeal.

Oghren wasn't really promiscuous, just a Dwarf who loves to get drunk and talk

Lol. Okay, so the thing is, Im picking the characters with the most notable rep for really getting around in each game.

Oghren doesnt beat Zevran.

Did Oghren actually sleep around?  I don't remember that at all.  He has Branka and Felsi, but never at the same time.  And he has flirty dialogue, but never acts on it.

Oh yeah, that's true... lol... actually he wanted a piece of every woman in camp.  Just not the Warden.  But as Lady Artifice said, he's not sexy, so he doesn't count.

I was sort of joking.

Also, I remember him wanting a piece of my Warden.

Yeah, but it isn't for lack of trying. He'd be promiscuous if more women would put up with him. So I guess to balance things out we need someone just like Oghren, only successful. (Isn't that a line from Seinfeld?)

Oh, my bad... well, I think the main thing we can all agree on is that Oghren doesn't count and there are many possible reasons for this.  :P

Anyway, as far as this topic goes, I am unsure if we'll see anything like what the OP is asking for... Bioware has shown that they are willing to push any boundary as far as the sexual aspects of their games go, but I feel that dwarves are too... they don't have the universal appeal of elves and humans, or even Qunari, as odd as that may sound to some... so while it's almost a certainty that we will have another sexually liberated party member in the future, I'm just not convinced that it will be a dwarf... maybe they'll prove me wrong.  They have in the past!  rofl

He drunkenly propositioned her one drunken night. Something along the lines of "getting some sauce for that rumproast."

She said, "Right here, you mad dwarven stallion" and earned some approval before he passed out.

Not exactly. I don't think any of those characters would actually "do anyone." Both Isabela and Zev has expressed aversions to "doing" specific people.

...This thread started out fun.

He even does that with a male warden.

I never said it was. I just said I am extra against it when it is.
