I'm actually glad that the Grey Wardens have their own distinct faction armors that identify themselves as part of a specific organization. However, I'm not too fond of the design. I think its because the armor design is too bright and shiny which is a huge contradiction against such a grim dark serious organization... then again, that's probably the point. The Wardens keep the nastier aspects of their organization a secret, evident by how the nature of the Joining (which has blood magic influence, if I'm not mistaken) could deter people from joining their ranks. They make themselves appear as heroic in the eyes of Thedas but even the Wardens themselves have a dark side.

The Legion of the Dead on the other hand, make no effort to hide the brutality and hopelessness of their order and its properly represented by their armors. The Legion have better looking armor for their own organization. Yes, its mostly all black in colour but the intricate and detailed carvings on their armor and eye-pleasing, not oversized pauldrons (shoulder plates) makes for one of the best looking Warrior armor in all of its appearances.

What do the rest of you think?

If you ask me about how much I love their distinct faction armors that identify themselves, and separate themselves from other factions. This gif below should speak for itself. As for the bright and shiny part...I blame Frostbite engine. They have their own distinct faction armors since DAII, and they don't look that bright and shiny.

Absolutely agreed. It look downright awesome in DA2, little less so in DA:I because of the inflationary use of heavy shader effects on each and every surface. I mean, not that armors shouldn't be slightly shiny, but most of them look like they've never seen a single battle.

Also my Inquisitor's lips look like he just made out with one of the Kardashians before stepping into the scene.

I like armor design, though I was feeling the outfit they gave Stroud/Alistair/Loghain

Not as good as the Warden Commander armor from Warden's Keep DLC but then certainly more realistic seeing as how they seem to have done away with massive armors all together.

One change I would make the remove the blue and make it Grey or Black. It would look more badass and make more sense like some people have said before, considering the grim nature of their work and their order. The closed face helmets are certainly better than the open face winged helmets from DAO.

I wonder if it's required wearing or if you can bring your own stuff

Yes.

Since this is DA:I, chances are you're gonna have to bring their stuff.

I liked it. If I had to say something negative about it, I would probably say I think they should have taken a slightly darker shade of blue. Not too much darker, just a shade of two. Because every time I think of the Grey Wardens, the grim defenders of man/elf/qunari/dwarfkind, I personally don't associate that with the color "baby blue".

I'm not really keen on the wardens having standardised uniforms. Though it makes more sense for Orlais, where there'd at least be enough of them for it to make sense to have standardised equipment.

I miss the mage armour from DA2, not that DAI's is bad I actually think it's the best one out of the lot (maybe because it's not so overwhelmingly shiny) but I really liked the DA2 one.

Definitely, I'm glad the wardens have their own faction / coat armory. Even if they don't, they should wear surcoats with the griffon coat of arms.

I love them. Mod them into DAO every time. The sparkle in Frostbite is overkill though.

I love the fact they have an armor that separate them from the other factions. They look awesome in all those grey and blue colours. I would add a bit of gold to the ones of higher rank.

I don't like the armor just because I feel like a phony wearing GW armor as Inquisitor. Then again, pretending to be a GW is popular in some circles.

I don't really like the new version, but that's mostly because I'm a Warden cosplayer and I didn't spend weeks applying all those studs by hand for nothing.

I think it makes a lot of sense to have standard uniforms. The alternative is DAOs "I'm a Warden" with no proof whatsoever and everyone being OK with that.

I like it. It kind of makes them like the Knights Templar. Not that they look similar of course, just as far as having their own 'uniform.'

Also DA:I Wardens > Awakening Wardens

DA:O's heavy armors were way oversized. DA:I generally speaking was much better with the proportions.

I love organization gear that sets them apart. Wardens, Templars, carta, even circle mages. I would like to see other organizations like the crows, chevialer, ash warriors have there own gear. To be honest Grey warden and Templar armors look better in my opinion then what our inquisition troops wear i hate my soldiers ugly hats.

Their armor is outstanding looking and with the belts buckles etc looks like something that can actually be worn. I love it, hands down my favorite armors regardless of class, they look good.

HOWEVER, i am sad we can't get the helmet w/o wings in DA:I. It's clearly in-game, the first two wardens you run into in crestwood, one of them is rocking the helm without wings... you just cant get it yourself.

It's not like someone couldn't paint some blue stripes on armour, if they were looking to con people. And in Fereldan they're rare enough that simple recognition would go a fair way, if you're not some unknown recruit left over after the order got slaughtered.

And I'm not opposed to the grey wardens utilising their heraldry to some extent, I'd just prefer that they look diverse rather than homogenised. The homogenisation contributes to DA:Is turning them into forgettably mooks.

I guess there is a practical issue that it's presumably cheaper for the game to have a bunch of identical outfits than to give them individualised armour with warden heraldry, but I still don't like them wearing uniforms.

If they're going to have uniforms of a professional organization, they need to look a way that screams "I'M A GREY WARDEN, I GOT THIS" and their armor does that, very very well indeed.

I did like that the two noobs you run into in crestwood have a discussion about wanting to stay and protect the village from demons vs following orders given by the warden commander. A small reminder that yes, these guys do random heroic acts just like you may have done in DA:O.

On the other hand, all high-ranking Wardens (including Blackwall) do have a very distinct look, and also sort of personalized versions of the Warden armor.

I mean, the "nameless" Wardens are just that: Random mooks. You don't have to worry about retirement plans & can sense the Darkspawn; you don't become a better fighter per se.

Duncan himself mentions that there were times during which Wardens conscripted anyone vaguely qualified.

It kind of works that way in universe too. Not all wardens have their own armour to begin with (I doubt that a cutpurse would own one for example) so it makes sense to have a bunch of identical outfits made for prospective wardens.

DA:O's heavy armors were way oversized. DA:I generally speaking was much better with the proportions.

Sadly, DAI had done away with plate/massive armor in favour of stylized chain armor.

I do like the idea of certain Wardens wearing personalized Warden gear. Like for example, a small commando-like group of the most skilled Wardens in the Order who have their own preference when it comes to what they wear. Like say, a Warden whose armor is adorned with small Darkspawn "trophies" to show off their achievements in Darkspawn slaying.
