I noticed that we don't seem to have a thread on the subject, so I might as well make it myself.

What kind of podcasts do you listen to, BSN? Recommendations, musings and banter about podcasts you like or just the medium in general.

What really hooked me on podcasts was the entire http://earwolf.com/ stable of shows, that have over the past few years brought me quite literally hundreds of hours of laughter.

Notable mentions:

CBBLOGOFULL-300x300.jpg

http://www.earwolf.c...medy-bang-bang/

The one that started it for me and basically their flagship show. A delightful mix of "real" guests and character guests in a semi-improvised setting, with the occasional freestyle rap battle, time traveling stabby orphan and Satan's supreme commander's supreme commander trying to bring about the end of all things.

Andy Daly is a comedian who is one of the most beloved character guests on the aforementioned CBB, and last year he had a run of his own shows with the concept of a bunch of his characters that originally appeared on CBB sending in pilot episodes of their own, fictional podcasts. Includes shows from such luminaries as vampire and mummy hunter Dalton Wilcox, cowboy and poet laureate of the west and a travel show hosted by pretzel maker August Lindt, surrealist sculptor H.R. Giger, filmmaker Werner Herzog and former Pope Benedict XVI in a cavalcade of the most genuine accents you'll ever hear.

Scott Aukerman (host of Comedy Bang Bang) and actor Adam Scott of Parks & Recreation fame bond over their love of U2 in a show that still features probably less than 10% actual talk of U2. If you want to find out more about this obscure band called U2, this show has it all. Everything from band member names, what instruments they play, Huey Lewis and the News, Entourage and the nu-metal band Staind. You will know everything there is to know about U2.

I'll end on a sad note because it was sort of what inspired me to start this thread.

I found out earlier today that Harris Wittels recently passed away at the age of 30. He wasn't exactly a household name, his main credits being as a producer and writer on Parks & Recreation, recurring guest on Comedy Bang Bang and hosting a show called Analyze Phish where he tried to convert his co-host Scott Aukerman into liking horrible jam band Phish with limited success. This still got me far harder right in the feelings than any celebrity death in forever. He had an incredible ability to have me absolutely pissing myself with laughter with jokes that on paper were so bad that I should've been been embarrassed or downright angry to even be subjected to them. He also seemed to be a super nice and genuine person in general, who was also super transparent and brutally honest about his problems with addiction. I'll miss him like hell.

Here's him on Comedy Bang Bang, doing one of his signature segments of absolutely horrible jokes that he didn't deem good enough to do on stand-up or even over Twitter:

The Bugle.  John Oliver and Andy Zaltzman's weekly news roundup.

It's just about the best thing out there.

Adam Scott's great on Parks & Rec, so I'll be sure to check that one out.  Apparently there's a lot for me to learn about U2.

I've listened to that one a bit.  Sometimes it's a little over the top, but in general it's spot on.  Every time they talk about Florida I laugh uncontrollably.

The stuff out of Grantland is good sometimes. Bill Simmons covers a variety of things other than sports on the BS Report and sometimes gets some great guests.  There's several different pop culture podcasts too.  I usually like The Right Reasons.

I started listening to the Co-Optional. The animated skits are WAAYY better than the actual podcast, but ya know.

Shamefully, I have serious doubts that I could even find my old podcast. I'm not even sure if the server that originally hosted it is still doing so.

I can remember regretting a couple of things that I said in it... :P

I also remember that a CBC producer actually complimented me on it, which was nice.

Edit: A quick Google search turned up nothing. I'm not surprised, I doubt that it has been available for some years, now.

I listen to a varitey of podcasts on the FrogPants network. Very good and very geek oriented.

The ones listen to the most are The Morning Stream, Comic Dorks, and The Instance.

And the discontinued and deeply missed Extra Life Radio

I listen to Jay Mohr's podcast and Adam Carolla on occasion as well.

I used to listen to the Drunk Tank (What is now the Rooster Teeth podcast) a lot until about 2011. But I still drop in for a few shows every now and again.

I used to be in several podcasts a few years ago that a friend of mine hosted. Some of them made the rounds here;it feels SO good to have someone tell you that on a long drive from one place to another, they put on a podcast you were in and listened to it, enjoying it the whole way through. It is invigorating.

As for what I listen to, I watch the Roosterteeth Podcast occasionally. Usually I watch it live, which is possible as a sponsor on their website. They upload to Youtube a week afterward.

AMC movie news:a youtube show but  most of the time I just listen to the audio version on itunes, fairly entertaining but they talk too much about superhero movies.

The podcast history of our world.

Rooster teeth podcast

One of us: A geek site but  I mostly just listen to their movie review podcasts "Highly Suspect Reviews" "Digital noise" and "The original gentlemen"

Double Toasted: They mainly focus on bullshit and movies, quite funny.

The Empire Film podcast: movie news, reviews and interviews.

Star Talk Radio with Neil Degrasse Tyson:Astrophysics

I should probably be listening to more than I have. They definitely help while playing less mentally-demanding video games and such.

Outside of the GameInformer Show, virtually nada come to mind. Harmonix did one on Chroma, but I'm not sure if they still fiddle around with podcasting.

I really like the wrestling podcasts the most. These two in particular. Jericho and Austin interview a lot of people. Their interviews with the wrestlers themselves are the best. They get the wrestlers out of their characters and being themselves. As Austin said in his interview with HHH, "Kayfabe is dead."

Now Playing is probably my favorite overall, but I haven't been listening to it as much recently, because their discussions are highly spoiler-ific, and I haven't gotten to see as many movies recently.

Another recommendation:

The Worst Idea of All Time sees two New Zealand comedians boldly do what nobody has done before for good reason: watch Adam Sandler's modern day classic, cinematic masterpiece Grown Ups 2 once a week for 52 weeks straight and then review it. Hear two men descend into madness and develop a possibly unhealthy fascination with Patrick Schwarzenegger as they struggle to find at least something to amuse themselves week after week after week. https://instagram.co...cXN/?modal=true

They recently completed their goal of actually doing this for 52 weeks in a row, only to announce that they intend to do the same all over again. Only this time, it will be watching Sex and the City 2 over and over again. Pray for them.

Shameless bump to A) give a plug to the lads of Cinema Swirl:

https://soundcloud.com/cinemaswirl

Basic premise is two friends watching and then reviewing classic Hollywood blockbusters, but one of them has barely seen any movies in his entire life. Imagine an adult man who spent his entire life knowing nothing about Star Wars outside of occasional pop culture references watching A New Hope for the first time. One of them also really likes Pepsi Max.

and B)

you should check out OSW Review and the AEpodcast:

http://oswreview.com/episodes/

https://soundcloud.c...ude-era-podcast

Both have the same basic premise of fans reviewing old shows and hilarity ensues, and both are very funny. The main difference (other than covering different shows) is that OSW is a video podcast with a ton of visual jokes and gags. Here's one of the few OSW episodes that are currently up on YouTube, a review of the cinematic masterpiece that was Ready to Rumble:

(they keep getting nuked from YT every now and then, but every episode is still available on their own site)
