I would have played as a human, if only they had a good enough passive racial ability. I knew about unlimited ability points, so having an extra one at the beginning just seemed so much less usefull than the resistance boost the other races get.

That and your Inquisitor, regardless of race, can legitimately get 5 extra skill points.

I play as everything, because I am greedy and don't like to miss out.

I play often as Human because they are the most neutral. They can have any kind of worldview and can come from the highest or the lowest place of the society. Qunari have their hive mentality and Elfs are either Slaves or Dalish. In short Humans have more blank spaces i can use for roleplaying. Other races are a little bit more restricted to play.

I did play as human because my attempts to come up with okay-ish looking qunari had been futile and I lost my patience because of frequent crashes and editor not supporting face codes or something and how long it took to actually reach the point where you could see how the character actually looks like in-game.

I signed for beta, so I was thinking to start a new playthrough with qunari and then change her features in Emporium if needed.

I never found elves and dwarves attractive to roleplay. I guess because I don't enjoy Tolkien fantasy in general and these races feel too cliché to me.

The elves are way too thin. The qunari have terrible hair. The dwarves can't romance Cullen.

Romance scenes dont look as awarkd to me as a human.Armor fits better and there be looking racing. I have played all 4 and still prefer human and elf.

Human Mustard Race. Dwarves are a close second.

Because elves are fragile looking and dwarves are short.

David Gaider also said that the game story was quite different from what they had originally planned so I'm not sure that's really about luck. There was a lot more elf-specific stuff than in Origins, and it integrated fairly smoothly. For me, the Inquisitor is Lavellan, and together with a Solas romance gives the most interesting story.

But somehow I doubt it they changed the main story to fit the elf Inquisitor. So yeah, to me it was a bit of luck. But it's not like that's a bad thing. I think both human and elf Inquisitors fit the best in this game.

Because humans look good? Get more armours? Don't get creepily scaled down like qunari women who romance the Wall or scaled up like dwarves who go for Cass (the dance - disgusted noise)? Don't have broken arms (elf males), anorexia (elf females) or clipping issues with their own chins (qunari males)?

Those are all pretty compelling reasons, although I will always rather play a qunari or an elf if I get the chance. Qunari women are gorgeously tall and muscular and I feel elves fit the story the most of all races with all the elven magic going on (ignoring that Lavellan is having strange comments about Mythal).

Same reason I play as a dwarf or elf or qunari - because it fits that character.

In the same context he mentioned races being added back in, so it's possible.

My favorite race is dwarves, but I have been playing a human off and on mainly because of the whole "connection to Andraste" on my lady warrior.   I enjoyed my dwarf's role in the plot though, quite a bit.  I'll play all the races as time goes on.  Human isn't my preferred by a long shot though.  ;)

Yeah, in terms of hair, qunari definitely get the short end of the stick. It seems like you get no options at all if you decide to go hornless. Can't even get Sten's glorious corn rows. The frak is this madness?

They aren't redicuoulsy large like Qunari.

They aren't comically short like dwarves.

They aren't as pathetically skinny as elves.

They are just right.

So a race is just right when they are human...Fascinating racism you have going there pal...

The elves are way too thin. The qunari have terrible hair. The dwarves can't romance Cullen.

Elves are not too thin, there are lean, their issue is their broken arms. The Qunari do not have terrible hair, they just have limited options and the options the have are okay, not great but okay. If Dwarves cannot romance Cullen, then isn't that Cullen's fault for not having a preference for Dwarves as opposed to the Dwarven race ?

I play often as Human because they are the most neutral. They can have any kind of worldview and can come from the highest or the lowest place of the society. Qunari have their hive mentality and Elfs are either Slaves or Dalish. In short Humans have more blank spaces i can use for roleplaying. Other races are a little bit more restricted to play.

You realize you are talking about humans who are of nobility, whose family is pro-Chantry and who could be part of the Circle of Magi which means they are not neutral at all. Neutral is the last word you should be using for Trevelyans. Lavellans and Adaars are neutral because they came to the conclave as mercenaries and spies whereas Cadashes came due to their family's stake in lyrium trade.

Technically, as stated in the character cards, humans are supposed to have a pro-Chantry view. In fact, if you play as a human and when Cassandra asks you if you believe in the Maker and if you answer no, she disapproves but she does not for the other races. I would say that the Adaars and Cadashes are most neutral in their worldview since Tal Vashoths and Surface Dwarves do not worship any deity by default.

Adaar is Tal Vashoth, Lavellan is from a clan with little human contact  so technically they offer the most options when it comes to roleplaying since they have not been exposed to Andrastianism or the nuances of being associated with serious leadership.

Your statement only applies to fantasy games in general. In Dragon Age, things tend to be a little bit different, especially if you look at Origin stories or backgrounds for races. Humans are the most restrictive with only two possible backgrounds, Nobility & Circle Mage (Hawke doesn't count because there were no option for other races) and Elves as well as Dwarves are the most freeing since you can either be a Noble or a Commoner or a Surfacer or a Circle Mage or a City Elf or a Dalish Hunter or a Dalish First.

Because it's a RPG and therefore, I guess, it's easier to empathize with the PC, if he/she is also an human, like the player.

My chars in Inquisition are human and elf. If they would switch Qunari with Warcraft/TES like Orcs, it would be my prefered race. Can't play as dwarfes, because to play as Lilliputian feels odd.

In this game, I play human because it's heavily focused on human religion and politics, with a core group of humans who started the Inquisition. Pre-release, I had a stronger image associated with "Inquisition" that has since died off (the Inquisitor doesn't do much related to anything that historical or other fantasy based Inquisitors do.... I mean, my Inquisitor is just more combat focused. There is little "inquisiting" or law or politics), but still.... it evokes a human centric story to me. I like elves and dwarves, but I'm still waiting for a better game for them. Sometimes it's fun to be an outsider, but I wouldn't use that word here. They're so far on the outside, it sometimes comes off as comical meddling.

Because the Elves are prepubescent teenagers and the Qunari are now shrek bodied with a severe lack of hair options and racial armor.

I'm running one Inquisitor of each race to give me a wide range of RP options. I'd say the two most integrated into the story are Human and Elf. Given the somewhat wonky elvish graphics and difficulty getting a good result in the CC it's no surprise to me that Humans turn out to be the most popular.

I like all 4 of my 'quizzies for differing reasons. Choice is good.

I agree.. although I think it's much easier to create a female elf. In fact, they look pretty great. The males are wonky to me. Most templates are long and horse faced.

I've played a mixture over the three games (DA2 excepted, obviously), although all three of my 'canon' playthroughs are human.  Quite honestly, I chose human noble as my first origin story in DAO partly because I don't normally play humans; I tend to lean towards elves, half-elves or similar in most RPGs, and thought I'd try something different.  I've always preferred melee to magic so human noble it was.  In the end when I had played through all the origin stories, I liked dwarf commoner best and city elf least.

With Hawke there was no choice, and with Inquisition I suppose I wanted to continue the human rogue tradition.  Next playthrough will be either the dashing elven mage I have cooked up for Dorian, or a cute dwarven warrior lass in the spirit of my Brosca.  I don't regret picking a Trevelyan first, as it allows me to explore different options than I will in other games (my dalish and my dwarf unlikely to be terribly religious, for example).

Out of curiosity: Do we have any official numbers for the races?

I remember seeing Inquisitor gender percentages and which dragon was killed the most somewhere. Have they done the same for races?

So I am curious to hear about why people who play humans play them ? I have tried to play as one but never managed to finish playing them...

Because different races=different backgrounds.

Heck two different backgrounds for humans, mage and non-mage.

Well that's why dude because I'm human and I like playing as if I was actually there in the fantasy world. Don't get buthurt because many pick it. you don't have to.
