The cut scenes actually work properly without you having to look like you're half starved to death. They actually make sense within the confines of the plot. They're the most aesthetically pleasing. I could go on, the reason for picking a human are endless. I've already had dwarf and qunari Inquisitors, and I've made an elf that I'm planning to play. They're fine, but my preference and personal canon is always going to be human.
Why Do You Play Human ?

I always play a human. I don't have any real interest playing as another race.

The same reasons that have already been mentioned many times - I like the look the best, it works well with the story, and - the most important - I don't have to play the tired, old 'you're a nobody/underdog/undesirable who gets to become the hero' trope. I'd much rather play a respected, privileged person who decides to make a difference because they believe in it/feel like it, not because it would make their own life better.
That's very much role-playing for me.

I don't really care if people want to play as humans. I only get irritated at these people when Bioware interprets lots of people playing as humans to mean "oh, people just want humans. I guess we don't need other races then. Great, that's easier anyway!"
I wish more people would play as non-humans just as I wish more people would play female characters to eliminate this unfortunate statistic. I intentionally played a Qunari female on my first playthrough (would have played a dwarf female if there was a romance for her) to help break up the monotony of those stupid metrics that Bioware keeps.

Honestly, it appears you haven't been around enough in the BSN.

True, I do plan to play a human later but it isn't my favorite race. I'm surprised it ranks first in popularity if the op is to be believed.

Right, i started with a Qunari mage - quite a few bits of the armour were invisible around the armpits and the lounge suit had terrible clipping problems. Seriously certain armours just had gaps between his shoulders and arms.
Elves had that stupid broken arm look with certain armour sets.
Never even considered a dwarf.
So that's why I play as a human.

Because the Elves are prepubescent teenagers and the Qunari are now shrek bodied with a severe lack of hair options and racial armor.
That's just the males.
But yeah, I wish their body shape were more like the Qunari in DA2. They were simply built like very muscular humanoids, while DA:I's Qunari men look like bipedal bulls, literally.
You really could call them oxmen now.

I like the Elves, Qunari was interesting and haven't played a dwarf yet but will get around to it. Yes, I do play more human characters than any others I liked the elves in DAO, didn't care for them in DA2 and in DAi they are still just a bit off in my LOTR mentality. But I'm very glad the option is there and I'll play them again.

Humans are my least favorite race in DA, (I don't hate them, they are just last in line of favorites) but I'm playing one right now because I'm doing a NM run and need that extra point for those lower levels when everything can and will kill me.
Otherwise I prefer elves or dwarves. I still have to do a Qunari run and I'm looking forward to it!

I only play as human when romancing Dorian. Otherwise, I always play with female elf, every single time (never romancing Solas, though).

Humans are easier to relate to, and there is a much bigger pool of literature and real life experience to draw inspiration from when constructing human characters and personalities. They're also the most involved with the plot, being the dominant race, whereas Dwarves and Qunari, and to a much lesser extent elves, are more detached from the goings-on in Thedas at large, particularly in the locations the games have been set in so far.

I play human because I am human and can be nothing else. Playing a "dwarf" or "elf" or "qunari" even if - somehow - their representations could be validated as "correct" would only be an "dwarf" "elf" "qunari" designed from a human perspective (in the same way anthropomorphizing animals couldn't possibly be considered accurate as to how - say - a cat "thinks").
I find playing anything but a human to be a fun, but ultimately shallow, mask donned simply to play: "Human with altered appearance."
Dwarf = stocky, short human.
Elf = lithe, weak human.
Qunari = tall, muscular human with horns.
If - perhaps - I could play as, say, a sapient squirrel... experiencing the game in an entirely different way than the human character... and not just "a new skin" then perhaps I'd have some interest. (Regardless of the fact is would still be "how humans think a sapient squirrel would act")
I actually really like Warhammer 40K for it's discussion on "alien life". Example: The Eldar are, ultimately, space elves... and while there are books covering their thought and lifestyle - Warhammer 40K is very clear that humans in that universe simply cannot think like Eldar, or Orks, or even Chaos. Trying to do so - as a human - drives a person insane.
Cthulhu is another attempt at suggesting a genuine attempt at "alien" thought over "reskinned human" - and Lovecraft is, in my opinion, a master at disorienting writing that makes you feel just slightly uncomfortable.
Anyway - probably more than you were caring for OP - but it's my thought on the topic.

Some people are comfortable with themselves and their identities, as to not need to change their race in order to play a game. Others have an easier time buying a human being made "Herald of Andraste" than say a qunari or dwarf. Elves have problems and being forced to play a dalish elf over a city elf could be a pretty big turnoff. Qunari character customization options were not as good as the other races, and the dwarves height can make people not certain of playing them, awesome as they might be.
So, with all of the above, the best compromise for a big, but not too big, character with decent hair and doesn't look like a twig, is a human.

I'll be the voice of dissent on that, I think. Personally would have loved them devoting that last stretch of time and money to origin stories and other story content, rather than extra races. I like DAI, but I just think it's good. Not great. And some of my criticism revolves around the Inquisitor being a fairly blank slate protagonist. It went from Hawke (who had a well developed story) to human only.. to just generic Fantasy Jesus.

Because the voices sound weird on Qunari and Elves and I'm not interested in dwarves. I would have played an elf if it had an appropriate voice, but both of the voices just sound odd coming out of an elf.

See i disagree, i personally found Origins characters far more interesting and fleshed out, no matter what race you were than in Dragon Age 2 or Inquisition, not because Origins is the best game since sliced bread, its not but to me it was far superior player character wise than DA 2 or DA Inky..
For me personally DA 2 was very cut and dry, you were hawke no real choices or changes and a fixed story that really was meaningless and went no where..
DA Inky for me was pretty generic God complex game but the additions of races very much helped my interests and helped me buy it.

I liked Origins too, but it was a better story suited for multi races as well. It's like they tried to apply that formula here, but this was a story conceived differently. Inquisitors and Wardens are different beasts. And they had more time back then. lots and lots of time, if I recall. Could've sworn they had like 5 yrs or something. Probably isn't possible to do it anymore.
