Hello!

I was wondering if there was a list somewhere that told me what sidequests matter in the Dragon Age timeline. I've recently finished a trilogy playthrough of Mass Effect and having the list of quests which were worth doing storyline wise was VERY helpful.

Any suggestions? Links?

None of the side quests have any effect in DA2 or DAI
Who ends up King or Queen has a small effect.
Whether your warden lives or dies & who he/she romances has a small effect.
The more people that survive, the more little cameo's you get.
There is no point trying to play "the perfect game" because nothing you do has any real effect in the later games.

I'd say it's less about which ones matter to the game as a whole, and more about which ones matter to your current Warden.  The side quests in DAO aren't so much about plot points as they are about fleshing out the world of Thedas and your characters' roles within it.

I'm a completionist, but even so there are certain quest chains I will never be able to complete with certain characters.  If I'm playing a pro-Circle mage, there are certain quests I won't complete for the Mages' Collective.  If I'm romancing Zevran and Master Ignacio says he's of no notice... sorry, Ignacio, you've given out your last contract.

Conversely, if I'm playing someone who wants to try to make the world a better place... sure, I've got time to go find Bevin for Kaitlyn, and get a hungry deserter some dinner.  And what's a few more minutes in Lothering if it means I can give some little orphan boy a trinket to remember his mother by?

Very few of them actually make a difference in the larger context of the Dragon Age series, of course, but they serve as opportunities for character growth nonetheless.

Yeah, it's a quite am shame how little influence most decisions have in DA: II and DA: Inquisition. For example, I was really disappointed that the Hero of Ferelden (so you from DA: Origins) doesn't make an apperance in Inquisition or DA: II. Concerning that, Bioware did a far better job with ME, mainly because the hero and his/her party nearly stay the same throughout the whole game.

Mass Effect was designed to be that type of story.  Dragon Age was not.

For OP: Frankly I prefer the freshness of a whole new perspective each game, and that not every little decision impacts the next game in a big way.  Some only offer small quests, some only affect some lives you encounter later, so leaving as many alive as you can in previous games guarantees as much extra content as you can, but overall, side quests affect subsequent games in small ways, if at all.

Sure, although it's disappointing in some way that nearly no decision has great influence in the later games except some short appereances or texts. I even read that someone killed Oghren in Origins (I would never hurt Oghren unless with hard liquor) and he was back there in Awakening.
