Is there a better staff than staff of the void?

Pyre of the Forgotten has the highest DPS. I've started using Deathward instead though. 1% heal on hit is great on the Elementalist.

From what I see? Fury of the Veil is the best for crowd-control, Staff of the Void is best for survivability, and Pyre of the Forgotten is the best for pure damage.

So the question is: What "best" are you wanting?

The damage difference between the top six or eight staves is barely noticeable. Use the one you like best.

What's the highest DPS on Pyre of the forgotten staff cuz mine is extremely low (143 dps) , compared to my fury of the veil which is 153 or something like that.

It looks like you have master rune on the Pyre and superb rune on the Fury. Pyre is 68–70 damage (110–113 dps without runes) and +16% attack, Fury is 68–69 (110–112) and +12.5% attack.

I have relatively high Cunning so for my Keeper and AW best staff is Mindchill Staff (besides DPS it's useful for occasional apply Nightmare), and for Ele it is Purity's Light.

Pretty much this. Once you put a superb rune and crafted grips/blades (where you can) in them you're looking at a damage variation you'll barely notice - 5% or less - with the "top 8" staves.

They are all good.

I do wish Dynamo's 20% damage buff worked properly though.

This is disappointing.. I thought perhaps there was a whole tier of staves for me to unlock that would be better lol. Im using fury of the veil with a superb spirit rune and HOK, so I am probably not going to see much better till DLC hits..

Though the mage classes are not underpowered, so to be expected really...

Yes, depends on what you like and how you want to round off a kit with equipment. I now have all the top staves and probably my favorite is Staff of the Void, just because the 2 sec immortality proc on 10% of hits is ridiculous, considering it acivates on you aoe abilities. And it pretty much makes the ele and necro very tanky (their offense is already really good to begin with and this staff just saves your a** now that you have to fight wave 5 in the open).

Why don't you just use Fury of the Veil and add the 8% heal on kill option to it.  Works wells.

I've been using Staff of the Void for a while, great staff.  Recently received Fury of the Veil.  Awesome.  Harder hitting for sure.  Managed quite a few kills as Keeper, topping the board (which can happen easily with barrier use, but not as often for kills).

Looking forward to trying out Pyre staff.

yeah it's a question of your kit and abilities you use. I think a keeper and probably the ele can use pyre or fury of the veil well since you have barrier and auto barrier and so you already have an ability you can spam to survive damage somewhat. On the necro I personally can play a bit more agressively now with Staff of the Void equipped on the build I use most, - and also be somewhat closer to the action. And playing more agressively usually translates into more and faster kills than by just changing staves.

I think in general Fury of the Veil and Staff of the Void are the two best staves because Pyre just does a tiny bit more damage-though I guess with fire it has a chance to inflict burning on the target, it has no unique useful ability otherwise. But the 10% Walking Fortress on the Staff of the Void is so much greater than the 2% Veilstrike chance on the Fury.

Totally see where you're coming from.  Having used SotV for so long, it is great to have WF process, but since I tend to play it safe from a distance, it helped sometimes but mostly wasted.  I noticed right away how the extra power, and ability to take down enemies faster with FotV; gotta say I was impressed with the damage output—easily taking 1st spot in a couple of back to back rounds (kills wise).

Definitely choose the staff that best matches your playstyle.

Even if you have just a little bit of cunning, Mindchill will do noticeably more damage than the rest of the staves (seems that way for me).  I think that crit damage bonus gets applied to all your abilities too.

why does the Mindchill do more damage than other staves if you have high crit?

I have all the high end staffs and just from raw potential damage; I think mindchill is the best.

Basically, a high rolled Mindchill at 67 base damage has similar damage as other top staffs (with a variance of about 3 base damage lower) but you get a 15% critical damage bonus which imo is almost like wearing a purple critical damage ring (which is 20%)

I have it but never used it since I sunk my superb runes into the dynamo...

mine only has 65 base damage though..

how do you hit critically with abilities - does this work similar to the base attacks??

Your critical hit chance is the same as base attacks.

The dynamo is something I'd like to know whether it works properly with the new patch as it's potentially the best staff in the game.

:), thanks but I have one already.

I remember it seemed to take ages for Superb Spirit runes to drop but I'm sure you'll get more than enough eventually to test your other staffs (I ended up salvaging a few to save space,  I'd have given them away if it was possible)
