No love for the sorcerers staff?  I normally use that instead of pyre or void.  I do have to admit I'm not sure to really measure it's benefits to my casters though. 

 

+25 willpower

+20 magic on kill

has slots for a grip and blade so it is pretty beefy.

I spec it for heal on kill as well with the grip/blade.

 

It's damage is just moderatly less than the other two.

 

Hmmmm.  I have that staff but I have never used it.  Not confirmed if Magic on Kill is working though I think I read somewhere? Hard to test?

 

I'll give the staff some air tonight.

Would be interesting if someone ran the numbers to find out it it does work. I use it in preference to fury of the veil and mindchill in the (possibly vain) hope that it does. Works well with 8% HoK upgrades.

For the keeper, elementalist, virtuoso and necro use deathward, for the a.w pyre of the forgotten or fury of the veil, staff of the void is cool with a chance to grant unbowed but it's not top tier for any current mages. You can't really just name a single best staff because for every mage that functions differently there is a different best staff for them.

Why don't you just use Fury of the Veil and add the 8% heal on kill option to it.  Works wells.

 

You've never done up-downs with Firestorm and Deathward? That's a wipe saver right there.

So I realized something depressing. I actually had received a staff of the void a long time ago, but I scrapped it because I wasn't thinking.

 

Never found another. I still have fury of the veil, and it's great (in fact I'd probably even still prefer it)... but major sad face over my lost staff.

I ended up doing the same to a pyre pf the forgotten while mashing Y to scrap junk

the staff of dragon  is the best by far (mainly for keeper) because the protection of the barrier is based on base damage, with all the passives of the keeper and the barrier ring, protects over 7000, all gear here https://docs.google....view?sle=true#

I have staff of the veil. It replaced Deathward.

To be honest I only like it because it makes a cool noise when veilstrike procs.
