I have imagined this type of thing being an alternate universe to base a storyline off of. I know Darkspawn Chronicles did this a bit, however that ended badly being that we played the baddies.
The Hero of Ferelden is Alistair
*Hardened by being the surviving Warden
*Dark Ritual
*Leliana Romance
*Recruits Loghain, poetic justice
*Anora stays queen
The Champion of Kirkwall is Aveline
*Hawke dies defending his family
*Carver becomes a Warden
*Bethany a Circle Mage
*Left Orsino and Meredith to kill each other
*Leads people out of Kirkwall to safety
The Inquisitor is Dagna
*At the conclave studying
*Curiosity gets her the Mark
*Ironic title due to inquisitive personality
*Seeks truths and is adorable on a poster
*Unrequited love for Dorian

Ah when I made this topic I was thinking more from the perspective of playing from that character POV ie you wouldn't be able to be the Inquisitor, but experience the story unravel through that character eyes and deal with that character's more personal issues, but this is an interesting take. Dagna would be the most amicable Inquisitor, although I think everyone would fear her regardless, because she is capable of cheerfully blowing everything up!

And overcomes her inability to cast spells by developing a bunch of crazy gadgets so she can launch fireballs, grenades, poison gas and lightning bolts (serious, I totally see Dagna doing this

In Darkspawn Chronicles, Alistair romances Leliana and is King without Anora, and that DLC was "what if the Warden died in the Joining".
Hawke etc survived the Blight because of Flemeth, who only noticed them because they killed an ogre. Unless Aveline kills an ogre, without Hawke's help, she never makes it to Kirkwall. If she makes it to Kirkwall, she can't get into the city because she doesn't know Gamlen. Aveline wouldn't go on the Deep Roads Expedition, so no one finds Red Lyrium or the Primeval Thaig. Hawke gets made Champion for dealing with the qunari, something Aveline would probably leave up to Meredith and Orsino.
Dagna wasn't even at the Conclave, she has to be recruited into the Inquisition from the Free Marches.

I would want to play as Corypheus. Though if that was out of the question then I would pick Oghren and become an obnoxious drunken herald that spews heresy at every possible moment.

On DAO I really felt towards the friends of Red Jenny and was eager to meet this Jenny and all that. When I met Sera in DAI my world just crumbled. The friends of Red Jenny were just a bunch of misbehaving brats. Playing Sera's role being able to affect the decisions and stuff from before the game time would prove interesting as well as take away one annoying companion from the game.
There are multiple Red Jennies, and the 'organization' isn't a unified group. Sera tells you both of these things.

Like the OP I would like to play as Cullen because he links all three stories, and Zevran for the same reason. I would also like to play as Cole because he seems to have a really interesting backstory.

This is great and I feel pretty accurate for each character. Especially Aveline. She would 100% let the crazies at each other and save the citizens. Hawke was always a risk-taker, no matter how you try to play. Interesting thoughts for sure!
Leliana has one of the best story arcs, starting with Leliana's song and now as potentially Divine. She would be an awesome Inquisitor (and the most like a REAL Inquisitor - trying to find the truth), and could have even been Champion of Kirkwall given that she had been there before. Perhaps without Hawke, she would have been more concerned and decided to stay to protect the Chantry's interests or possibly even the mages.
There aren't many other characters I could see being in all three stories quite so readily. HoF surely, but not many others.
I *could* imagine Hawke actually ending up HoF in another world - was recruited by Duncan, saved Ferelden, then met up with his family in Kirkwall at the beginning of "Act 1." Then Varric could have trusted Cassandra and given her Hawke's location at the end of DA2. Boom, Hawke is at Conclave, now the Inquisitor as intended.
Then Hawke could have really been "The most important person in Thedas" or whatever they were originally called.
EDIT: I could easily imagine Hawke being one of the origin stories. They could have been the non-noble human origin (since they weren't nobles in Lothering). Duncan finds them just before going to Ostagar. Hawke tells them that if anything goes wrong, flee to Kirkwall. They still get Flemeth's amulet, etc etc etc.
The biggest difference would likely be that Hawke wouldn't be the Warden-Commander of DAA. In that case the Orlesian Warden would be the default - or perhaps DA2 could just start later, and Anders travels with Hawke to Kirkwall without either knowing Justice came along too.
Hey, it could have happened if they wanted a consistent protagonist ![]()

Samson, Loghain or Blackwall. Tragic warriors are best warriors.

I'd play as Kolgrim, with Gorim as his Second.
Because it would only take them two days to save the world, and they'd be dealing out fine dwarven arse-whoopings, direct from Orzammar!
EDIT: Dog would be there too.

Hawke as the protaganist thru all three games is very compelling. I could see Hawke cutting a deal with Flemeth to get his/her siblings and mother out of Ferelden in exchange for a peaceful resolution to Morrigan's Grimoire Quest.
Awakening is around the time Hawke's family could arrive in Kirkwall. They wouldn't need to submit to servitude to enter because they would name drop HoF Hawke. They might still be in financial woes because Gamlen, but Varric could be interested quicker and help in hopes of gaining favor from the HoF and his/her expertise for Bartrand's Deep Roads Expedition. HoF Hawke then arrives in Kirkwall just after Awakening, which should be just about the length of that first year period of DA2.

I'd continue Hawke's story.
Some really good ideas here, but I'll go with this, too.
An alternate timeline in which Cassandra finds Hawke and convinces him/her to become Inquisitor.
(And, sorry Varric, but if Hawke had been at the Temple of Sacred Ashes, we all know he/she would have saved the f**kin' day. lol)
