For DAI?  I think Cassandra would have been a good Inquisitor/set protag.

I would have enjoyed the game more than playing the Inquisitor *yawn*

Managing a character's personality on your own is too hard, I know.

I'd hate it and I'm not sure I would have picked it up, maybe a year or so later.  I like the character creation in an RPG like BioWare and Skyrim.   I like all of the characters and enjoy getting to know them, but I enjoy making my own character too much.

Now in Borderlands 1 and 2, I don't mind since they have more than one choice.

Sutherland and his crew would be fun, Cassandra is a strong character who I think could carry a game. Someone mentioned Servis, for a minor character if you read all his codexes he is amazing (especially his cover letter one looking for new employment), would love to see him come back in future games, he would make a great companion!

"If you have forgotten the difference between alive and dead, I can show it to you". I really like Servis, he is witty, competent, practical. I hope he manages to slip away if you decide to give him to Corypheus.

What about characters only referenced by name?

Probably not, but I'm going to give a cheatyface answer anyway. I'd want to play as Shartan.

You can choose whoever you like, but is he even alive during DAI?

Hawke was ok but not ideal. I enjoyed getting to create my faces in the CC, pick my gender, love interest, class, and tone but I didn't like the set background or being restricted to human. Games with an actual set protagonist (such as the newer Tomb Raider) I may enjoy on a medium level and like the gameplay but I wont play it a second time or buy DLC and may or may not buy any other installments I also buy this kind of thing used or on sale since it doesn't get me excited or draw me in.

I'm sort of like this actually, but I think in my case it has mostly to do with the fact that i don't like the personalities and looks of most of the set characters, but DAI has quite a large collection and some do seem as interesting option.

DA2 did have one of the worst cases of "same face" I've seen in a game lol.

That's kind of why I liked default Hawke (female or male). They were unique.

Corypheus. He was terrible, I'd be a much better villain and future ruler of Thedas. I'd get things done.

Also, Cassandra, just because she's awesome, and I want that accent!

But first choice would always be my city elf Warden with King Alistair, and Leliana on the side hehe.

I would play as Loghain, no question.
