More seriously, people tend to go for the pillar of heaven, spell purge combo for big aoe damage, and then argue about the other two ability slots.

^This. Forgive my getting the name wrong lol. Its a good build. You can reduce your combo cooldown by using blessed blades(or whatever its called) but you lose some survivability, so I wouldnt on higher difficulties.

I'm running with Shieldwall, Payback Strike, Horn of Valour and Line in the Sand (upgraded) currently.

Let the ranged people do their dpssssss, meanwhile those enemy archer arrows harmlessly bounce off my shield.

I like buffing my teammates with Horn of Valor (instead of Shield Wall), but as with BB this can be risky on perilous because of risk of f being 1- or 2-shotted there.

Wrath of heaven + spell purge combo.  After that I usually run payback strike and Shield wall.

If you are looking for non-standard (nuking) builds look around for Templar builds by Mortiel.

I don't have a specific standard build that I use for Templar. I like to think of Templars in one of four cat: Tank, Melee, Magic, Hybrid.

For my melee build I may run with something like: PbS, Bash, Unbowed, and Shield Wall

Tank is basically in support ability that draws attention/damage to you as opposed to your teammates. (note I hate Tank build on any class and hardly ever use block on any kits but Templar is perhaps the one exception I make for that).  That that end you have: Challenge, LitS, Bodyguard.

Magic is basically WoH and SP.

To small degree Templar has support skills: BB and HoV. First you should figure out how you want to play it. You can play around with it and see what you like. I'm currently working on my templar banner and just used this build: WoH, SW, PbS and Bash. I always throw away a point on Bodyguard just for the Unyielding passive.

Wrath of Heaven, Spell Purge, Unbowed and Payback Strike is how I've been playing recently as I work on my 100 Completed missions with the Templar (currently at 79).

With good equipment this build can be great on Threatening and possibly underwhelming on Perilous unless you are fighting Demons - just like most Templar builds are anyway.

Honestly, I would disagree with this. Here is why:

Firstly, the WoH + SP combo does high damage to any enemy that can be stunned, not just demons. High AoE burst damage.

Secondly, damage output is not everything. The Templar has some amazing support skills as well, like Horn of Valour, Blessed Blades. or Bodyguard.

Now, I realize that how a person feels about a class is entirely their own rightful opinion, but I must ask: Why do you feel that most Templar builds are underwhelming in Perilous?

Most maybe, but I am not most. I have no idea popular my builds are 'out in the wild', just amongst my own friends (they're popular with my friends).

I also think Templar's one of the more skill sensitive classes out there. Absolutely amazing with great build and player, not so much with new player and bad build. Gear helps offense, but not as necessary since the defensive abilities are not gear dependent.

We've played together. I agree that UB and PS are fine for Threatening, but underwhelming for Perilous. You've probably seen me trash through Perilous on my Templars, or if not me then Spacemonkey712 on the same builds. Would you say my builds & playstyle are underwhelming, or that it is the players that make them shine?

on mine I play her like a tank.(lvl 14 ATM)  Payback strike/ horn because I like the buff, shield wall and shield slam. I was thinking about chaning my fire run for ice so I can freeze mobs and shatter then with my slam. I plan on getting Wraith of heaven later on

That's assuming you get a PUG with players who aren't clueless. That build would be great for a coordinated group but with randoms? Not so much.

The Templar is very versatile, but she is very limited in how she can tank, which she does mostly via crowd-control. Most prefer using her for burst AoE damage using Wrath of Heaven and Spell Purge since that is how most people see her as effective.

Also, runes on your weapons do not prime for combos. Only abilities that immobilize enemies with Stun, Paralyze, Frozen, or Sleep prime for detonations. Just thought you should know.

EDIT: Runes to not prime targets with immobilizing effects for the Rupture, Weakened, Nightmare, or Shattered combos. Lightning runes can trigger the Shocked status that can be combined with Weakened to create the Sleep combo.

Surprisingly, matches running my Templar Leader build seems to also infect PuGs with intelligence and coordination. I have yet to discover why, but they are surprisingly well organized and somehow just know how work with me even without talking.

There is an exception to this (Mortiel reads and thinks, of course there is!) While the rune alone does not prime for combos, a shock rune can trigger the shocked status. In combination with the templar's passive weaken abilties, especially the +weaken on critical hit passive Crippling Blows, to trigger the shock then weaken combo into Sleep that an be purged for a nightmare detonation.

Ah you are correct! I had forgotten.

Let me correct my statement.

EDIT: Done.

Some time ago I said the Templar was underwhelming when not fighting Demons. Maybe I was wrong...  After not having touched this class for a few weeks, I decided to do some runs today for the Weekend Challenge and numbers like these were popping out.

You sound surprised Vegan? I mean, it's just your Willpower boosting it silly. I can do 5000-5500 with a Firm Tournament axe with 2 will power promotions, so I'm sure you can do much better :)
