. He's a damn bit more powerful than anyone else walking around Thedas besides Flemeth and Keiran

Maybe, but I have a hard time believing he couldn't have found a more stable powerful mage to work with, maybe work something out with lyrium or blood magic.  Giving it to a tainted madman is still the worst of all possible options.

I wouldn't call it BS. I'd simply call it heavily uneven.

Because you know.

Humans actually control the world.

I don't really see it happening, he can't exactly go up to a Tevinter magister and ask him to sacrifice a few hundred slaves to generate the power necessary to unlock the orb.

This was an event on par with the Tevinter Breach of the Veil I imagine, there's precious few people who'd be willing or able to try it

Yes, lets trust the ex Templars, Seekers, and Circle mages to keep quiet about the biggest taboo in Andrastian societies......

And what's the alternative? Ruin the Herald of Andraste's reputation and very possibly collapse the entire Inquisition? They have no choice.

tranquilize him.  the Anchor is independent of magical ability so it would be possible

True. I think Solas wanted the Breach to be a distraction, hoping the initial boom would kill Corypheus so he could retrieve the opened orb.

I don't think it requires THAT much power, not by half.

Wait, do you think the ritual at the Temple of Sacred Ashes was the unlocking of the orb?  Because I don't agree with that interpretation.

something along those lines I imagine

foresight might not be his big thing

Perhaps. Though, since Tranquility involves a spiritual deafness to the Fade...I think that having the Anchor might actually interfere with Tranquility, perhaps even mutating it.

The Anchor probably makes one immune to Tranquility... not to mention that such an event would have the exact same problem as just killing the PC. Really, it's easiest for everyone along to just go along with it.

From what I gathered, he knew what Cory was, but was entirely unaware of the bodyhopping, which is something unique to him. Perhaps the Taint had begun to mutate and change since Solas was sleeping, so he didn't know what Cory was capable of?

I don't see any reason to believe otherwise, the Orb was probably designed to allow easy access between the physical world and the Fade, when the Inquisitor grabbed it, he got the power.

If the Orb was already functioning there was no reason to be at the Conclave

really its easiest to just not have blood magic as a specialization in the first place and avoid the whole issue

Except that it was, no?

The sole purpose of that ritual was to create the Anchor, so Corypheus could go on a field trip to the Fade.  He had already previously unlocked the orb, which was providing power for the ritual in question.

I agree. If the Orb was turned on, then Cory could have already just stepped across the Veil, no?

I don't really think it turned on until when he was draining Justinia. And by the time she knocked it out of his hands, it was charged, and then we picked it up, thus granting us the Anchor.

or he simply underestimated the guy

I disagree. I had thought the ritual was draining Justinia of her life force or what have you so that he could open the Orb.

No, that doesn't fit.  Corypheus describes the Anchor as something he created.  It was the intended product of the ritual at the conclave.  The Inquisitor unwittingly stole it when he picked up the orb mid-ritual.

The explosion and the resulting Breach were entirely accidental.

I had thought it was simply part of the ritual to create the anchor (And his use of Justinia just a matter of vanity)

we don't know if the explosion would have happened regardless.  After Justinia was drained it may have exploded as well, o way to know for sure, and if the Orb was already powered up why'd Solas describe himself as too weak?

Justinia was a symbolic target yes, but he still needed to drain/use a person to fully activate the orb.
