I would choose Cole as one of the best characters seen in games in a long time. And the caverns of Crestwood and the Hissing Wastes are some enjoyable romps and treasure hunts.

While you may not enjoy the game as much as others, there may be some examples that have skipped your memory.

oh absolutely.. And i try to give credit, where its due.. But, whenever i do mention them, i always am sure to note that they just became buried under what felt to me, like endless trudgery, slogging through menial task, after menial task..  I liked some of Hinterlands, some of Empris Du Lion, and the Area right near it.. The jungle i can never remember its name.. Where you meet the refugees.. The mansion there was alright, even if the undead spawned forever until it was complete.. There are some gems.. As i said though, its just so hard to remember the joy i did have, as i spent so much time falling asleep, or just angry at what i was looking at..

Also, while the environments were indeed large, and breathtaking at times, i just didnt like the bright, vribrant color scheme they chose.. Better than DA2 for sure, but not the dark, gritty style i love in my fantasy rpgs.. I tend to avoid many "good" games, if i dont like its look.. Bastion,  for example, or Transistor come to mind.. Too cartoony, and DA:I was teetering on the brink of cartoony..

I want to say things...but those things would get me in trouble and I already have one warning post hanging over my head, always watching and waiting for me to slip up!

If you have negative things to say abotu the game, get used to it.. Most of us have many of those.. Reguardless of if its deserved or not, the mods wont even talk it out.. I got a suspension for warning others not to argue with someone, and got hit, lol.. Or posts deleted so you cannot show them you used no bad language, or typed out no ones name, etc.. They dont care.. Mr.03 really has a thing for my smile i guess  *shrug.

Cannot speak for others, but I have good Tactical Combat (ie; Tac-Cam). As for attributes and eight quicklots, I was offering my resistance before launch as I knew these were being restricted. Click to Move is available in Tac-Cam, which again works in my game. The abilities and spells were being discussed before launch, and the harvesting was illustrated in several pre-launch vids. Etc.

Simply because some missed these reports, vids, and other threads is not the fault of Bioware.

Imnot gonna go over this argument with you again.. It was clear the message that was being sent to the PC community.. If im supposed to follow every lets play, watch every dev video, live stream, G3 to find out that whats been advertised is no longer truth, that is indeed pretty silly.. Im not buying a car.. Im buying a video game.. One shouldnt have to enter full detective mode to find half truths and whole lies in order to decide whats what.. The PR spin, and deliberate misrepresentation shown in several well known vids, were blatant examples of pure bull-honky(that an ok word 03?)

I was buying a 3rd  entry in a well known rpg franchise.. Since the backlash recieved from DA2, it was said time, and time again, the next would be more of Origins, and keeping what was liked (combat) from DA2.. There was no mention of no tactical modifiers, click to loot/move, haphazardly installed m+kb, almost no view in the tac cam, complete change in the skills/masteries, and everything mentioned.. One cannot be expected to follow every single possible hint of anything related to a video games development cycle.. Thats lunacy..If THAT muchw as being changed from the roots, of the games foundation, it should have been clearly stated this was more spin off that successor, or 3rd in series.. Its a straight up action, hack n slash..Yes, we know the "m+kb work just fine for you", but it doesnt for MANY others!

Not about the game itself, I think I give pretty reasonable and level headed criticisms despite my disappointment. The things I want to say to certain posters though...

Well I like a good Hack and Slash game so I think there's more to it than that. I enjoyed the combat in DAO and DA2. I thought the gameplay was great in both of those games.

The size and scope of DAI can be overwhelming, which can inhibit the internal desire for replay after another. It is over three times longer for my own DAO games, and that is still not completing everything. So I get the idea of it seeming like tasks being assigned. But as SWTOR took me to what I considered laborious burdens with repeated quests and missions if failed, DAI is a breeze with Pause, Tac-Cam, and Saves.

As for advanced intel, many if not most demos had Tac-Cam footage, which indicated the Click and Move pathing. In one such vid, Iron Bull was placed at a choke point while the other were ordered to other locations (Redcliffe reveal if I recall). And while the KB&M challenges were unknown to me until postings appeared at launch, I knew most of the rest of it from these forums and links in threads. And I am hardly alone in this.

This is pure BS.. They said it would be all of what was good from the previous 2 titles.. Well, theres none of either.. No tactical combat.. No character progression, stat allocation, behaviour modifiers, tactical camera, click to move, click to loot, cinematics, companion dialog anywhere, half the spells/abilities from before, none of the base building, and growing, and control over how its made, grown, and defended.. No defense missions... Its clearly not a game for and by pc gamers, as its a painfully obvious (and lazy) console port, with no PC ui.. Horrible m+kb implementation, and designed for a controller (not pc main input)

omg... Man, you don't know how much I hate it when people say this... They say the game is consolized... But the controls are trash on console too. Tac cam is still an epic failure, we're only limited to 8 skills instead of being able to use the radial menu to access all of them, inventory is an absolute mess, way too much clicking, combat is boring, you just hold the same one button to attack, I dont understand why they didn't add autoattack, it's hard to pick up loot too, you have to stand a certain position in order for the button prompt to come up instead of being able to use the directional buttons to select a clickable object, same thing with targeting enemies in battle, it's too hard to focus on one enemy, especially if you're a mage or archer, add in the fact you can't have your party members attack the same enemy as you. So it's not just you pc users dealing with bad controls, there are some console players that also got screwed by Bioware.

You are right! ME1 happened because of Microsoft and Bioware's exclusive deal with them. The problem is that Bioware was in financial trouble. The old fan base was not in a position to sustain Bioware. Bioware needed capital that is why they formed a partnership (VG Holding) with Elevation Partners along with Pandemic. Elevation Partners invested $300 million in the partnership. The minute Bioware formed the partnership it was no longer in control of its future.

Elevation Partners wanted a return on their investment. Bioware was not in a position to buyout Elevation partners. Elevation parnters put the partnership up for sell. EA bought the partnership for over $800 million. That made everyone who had a stake in VG Holding rich.

Without Elevation Partners and EA Bioware would have most likely closed its doors.

So we have Bono to thank for saving BioWare from bankruptcy... and selling it to EA.

You are limited to the 8 slot minimum because of the Y,X,B and RB buttons on the controllers. It has to do with having to have quick access to everything, because...more action, faster action.

The somewhat failure/disappointment of dai I think may be attributed to Bioware themselves. It had already been stated that putting the game on last gen consoles caused some setbacks and limitations. Laidlaw (or Weekes?) also stated that they wish they could have expanded on Corypheus but they ran out of time. Let's see, the things that were advertised to be featured in the game were taken out because of last gen limitations, meaning many people bought a game they were not expecting, last gen players suffer from massive bugs and glitches, some can't even get the game to play, PC gamers suffer from consolized controls, poor optimization, crashes... It seems that in one way or another, Bioware screwed all their customers. Imagine how different the game might be if they had stuck with only next gen and pc? Would stuff shown in the demos have been included? Would they have had more time to work on the pc controls to work better with kb/m? It seems that Bioware chose profit over quality. The game could've come out much better if they stuck with next gen but they decided to be greedy and release the game on last gen as well, to sell more copies.

I also think back to the pre-alpha video, in it I remember there was a save file from a location "Nahashin Marshes" which is a real place, it was mentioned in the Asunder novel. It's the patches of little black circles on the upper left side of the Orlesian map. So obviously at one point, this would've been a location we could visit in game. It makes me wonder though, did we benefit from last gen or lose out? Because they put dai on last gen, they had to cut stuff out - does this mean we would've had MORE big empty, lifeless maps? Or were there more locations like Crestwood in the pre-alpha video, where you could make big decisions, and the map would have its own story, kinda? I guess we'll never know. It's something to ponder at least.

In previous games we could access additional abilities through the radial menu. That was stripped away for some reason and was one of the many things I disliked about DA:I. As a console player and a fan of player reflex based, action combat I can say that DA:I combat wasn't fun in any way. It wasn't tactical despite their claims that tactical is what they were going for, it took much less thought than before (hey as long as you keep spamming barrier and guard you're a-ok!) but at the same time it wasn't really an action based system. It looked flashy and was dumbed down but there was no player skill or reflexes required. The closest thing it reminds me of is the combat in Fable 2 (ZZZzzz...). With reflex based combat even weak encounters can be fun when you try to perfect your techniques or make a really difficult shot with a gun or bow or try to get someone to fly off the cliff behind them, etc...each battle in DA:I was a repetitive chore. I don't know what they were going for with DA:I's system but It doesn't succeed in catering to either group. (tactical players or reflex players)

You can actually win every fight in the game simply by rubbing and rolling your face all over the controller. I don't remember any game managing to have a feature like that, and still call the game tactical.

yes, I know why. It was a rhetorical question. I was limited to 6 in dao but I still had the radial menu as well. I don't see why they just couldn't keep the controls and da2 battle system...

Of course people will play a story DLC. The main complaint about the game is the lack of story content, after all.

As far as I'm concerned I see no reason to get the DLC. First because not getting the DLC is the only way to vote with your wallet once you bought the game ( I have not bought DA2 and ME3 DLCs for this reason). Second because I don't know yet if I'll ever finish this game... spending more money is not the right way to make it better..
