New patch and DLC. Wonder if the latter is available for pre-order?

:D

PC gamers can purchase it tomorrow. Not sure exactly how many hours away it is from becoming available on Origin.
Xbox 1 can get it on now.
The rest have to wait an indeterminate amount of time before it's available.

compare dai with pillars of eternity.

the most exciting of the game is the kitty cam  ;)  even the player in this video got bored because of the simple hack and slay

gameplay .

we can see a ice man as part of the character creator... where is the flame head man or race gone? i saw him into another gameplay video.

omg...the cat flees because of this game. kitty quit the service before she fall asleep because of this mindblowing game.

In the end, changes don't matter. What matters is they're putting story aside in favor of time eating activities, and that DAI is the least fun and most tedious game in the series.

It was honestly disappointing at parts, and boring at others.

Op's right, bioware has lost their way.

So I've been told, but playing on Nightmare, as I always do, you have to complete a hefty number of fetch-quests to be levelled-up enough to tackle story content.

You also need to explore and/or gather resources to acquire good gear.

The RPG/progression mechanic is tied into the wandering and grinding. So if you want to improve your character, much of it is unavoidable.

I want to be nice, but honestly, your position is laughable. Your opinion is misguided.

If you are bored because the narrative is too padded out, then do not choose the difficulty that requires you to grind.

There's a reason game designers changed the "easy" setting to "casual" - it rightly conveys that the setting is for people who are bored by the mechanics of the game, and just want to experience the story. That's what you should be doing. You can still improve your character in casual mode, you just need to do it MUCH less in order to remain competitive.

You are literally complaining about a problem games have solved for about a decade now.

You do have to grind etc even on causal. To a certain point, anyway. You need to get power points for the inquisition etc. If you deliver enough elfroots to your requisition officer and things like that, the people of Orlais will think you are important enough for them to speak with.

Have not had to grind on DAI or SWTOR; am pleased to make XP in other methods allowed within the games.

Unlike you or the dude in that video, I played both DA:I and Pillars of Eternity - the finished game, not the beta or some such.

First, the "flame head man" is present in the game.

PoE is a tactical game. It's about choice and building your character in both story and talents. Unlike DA:I, even picking a hand weapon is a tactical decision here because weapons cause different damage types like slash, pierce and crush, and different armor sets have different levels of protection against those. It's a game with more races (not even counting sub-races) and classes as DA:I, and it does not rope you into playing the savior of the land - in fact, it fully supports playing a character who is a cruel, selfish bastard. Heck, it has an order of paladins that are known for being absolutely brutal and merciless in battle instead of just being armored choir boys. It was also made with a fraction of the budget and manpower that is behind DA:I. And it's not meant for the action gamer audience.

But that's not really the reason for your post, right? Just like your, erm, opinion about people getting lost and dying of boredom in the world of Witcher 3 or some such. You're not here for a discussion, you're just trying to crap on any possible competition because by your logic it makes DA:I look better somehow. It's only working in your head, though.

Seriously, man. Stop thrashing about and grasping for straws. Drown with some dignity.

I find it very hard to enjoy Inquisition (and not for a lack of trying, trust me). There's just too much filler and aimless wandering.

The game has many little flaws, most forgiveable -- but this one is almost a deal breaker.

Nobody enters a fantasy world to experience boredom.

The game is at least eighty percent walking around big, pretty environments doing dull tasks which have no emotive power and no relevance to the story.

The scenarios presented on the War Table seem far more intriguing than collecting shards or ram meat. Let me play those!

The story missions are great -- (especially the attack on Haven; so epic!) -- but there's not enough of them. Or rather, they're not integrated well enough into the rest of the game. They do nothing to make the side-quests feel worthwhile.

The game shouldn't make me feel lonely and depressed until I have enough Power or XP to progress to the next story mission.

Dragon Age: Origins was designed in such a way that it felt like one giant story mission. Almost everything you did felt critical to the success of the Grey Wardens' quest to unite the land.

The Deep Roads, for example, were endless, but at least we were there for a very good reason -- to find a Paragon, settle a civil war, and in so doing secure dwarven allies to defeat the Blight. That's the kind of motivation that makes grinding fun.

Why am I killing dozens of undead in the Fallow Mire? Or dozens of bandits in some desert? Why am I killing angry wolves and bears as I travel from one point of no interest to another point of no interest?

Because the Inquisition's directive is to "restore order" to the land? Wow, that's inspiring.  <_<

Let Cullen's and Leliana's minions do that rubbish.

In short, keep your Skyrim out of my Dragon Age, please.

I love the big, beautiful environments BioWare crafted. Major kudos to the art team.

It's just so sad that there's nothing very fun to do in them.

Ever heard the writers' saying, "Murder your darlings"? Well, those environments are your darlings; if they don't significantly enhance the story or the player's enjoyment, they should be eliminated and replaced with content that's fun to play.

The kind of content that pre-DA2 BioWare was always known and respected for.

Agree wholeheartedly. Not enough story and too much grind and fetch.

Playing Pillars now.

Very impressed so far. The tutorial/prologue area has so many RPing options. Nice to have a game that requires the player to have an IQ higher than that of a tennis ball.

Combat system doesn't seem to bad either.

Yeah Pillars is pretty damn good so far. Its also cool that your stats can affect dialogue etc. Using your Might to lift people up and shake them etc.

Really? The amount of power you need to progress the story is minimal. You can literally get most of it by doing the main quests related to each area, and ignoring all fetch quests, as long as you close a couple of rifts while you're walking. This makes no sense, unless you'd prefer an entirely non-interactive narrative.

As a tactical RPG, PoE is obviously going to play quite differently to DA:I, which you correctly said was a hybrid of tactical and action combat elements. I just wanted to point out that what hand weapon you use in DA:I is absolutely a tactical choice. Choosing between a longsword and an axe is relevant - axes have higher DPS but lower damage per hit, making your abilities slightly weaker.

Similarly, several different weapons have different attack animations which lead to completely different combat styles. Consider the arc daggers as opposed to the normal daggers.

I am very much looking forward to PoE, but let's not already start misremembering the elements that constitute DA:I

You don't know how many power points you need to get, when you play the game for the first time. For all I knew I might need to have 100 points to unlock some main quests further down the line.

Quite accurate; still have lots of Power leftover in latter campaigns, but still no grinding required to get it.

I really do like this game, but holy crap, enough of the aimless Skyrim noise. I feel like this is Lego Friends: oh look, people like Bioware games; let's be sure to make this huge game that isn't like a Bioware game for all the people who like Bioware games.

Hint. There's a hole in that logic.

Let Skyrim do Skyrim, and Dragon Age do Dragon Age.

we talk about the aimless wandering in dai.. about filler and fetch quests in dai and about a empty world in dai.

all i can say is that the criticism on dai .. fit also very well to pillars of eternity.

just watch a  video of the game and you will see a flat landscape with 4 trees on it and one lion who waits into the empty world to get killed because of the loot.that reminds me to asian mmorpg grind games.

we talk about the boring fight system of dai.....well, in pillars of eternity it looks like simple hack and slay without tactical options.

we talk about the disappearing corpses in dai...nothing else happens in pillars of eternity too.

all else will be said into on sentence:....if you play the game then feel welcome back to 1980.

that mustn't be wrong..i didn't say that pillars of eternity is a bad game...who enjoy this should play it

but...

pillars of eternity is exactly that what we criticise on dai plus simplified graphic and a less game time from 40 hours max.

DA:I felt like Skyrim with the combat and level up system from Diablo 3, and with the search function from The Witcher 2 tossed it. The only thing that felt like a Dragon Age game in it was Morrigan and Flemeth.

You haven't played the game. You just watched a video of someone playing the Beta of it  Beta = not a finished product. Since you didn't seem to have picked up on that fact.

Every landscape in the finished product is very detailed. Corpses don't disappear until after you loot them either.

No hack and slash in Pillars. Most side quests and combat encounters can be solved in a peaceful way too, or be avoided.

Unless you play on easy, tactics is very much needed. You can't rub your drooling face against the controller and beat the game on nightmare that way - like you can in DA:I.

I think you should look at games from 1980. Most of them were text based. That was 35 years ago. 23 years before you were even born. Pillars looks more like something from 2005.

I'm actually playing the game. It has everything that DAI lacks.

Graphics aren't too shabby either, but graphics aren't everything.

Hell Shadowrun dragonfall has even more basic graphics, and not so much as one word spoken by a VA, it's still and a damned good RPG

In short gameplay is king. The best graphics in the world can't make up for if it's lacking.

the landscapes are empty.. and simplified because of the simplified graphic.sure they have details too.but not the quality from the ones from  dai.

about the empty landscapes....

where all the wild animals gone? where to find plants?

it looks like that a animal appear if you need to solve the quest 'kill a animal'.

it looks like that a cave appear if you need to solve the quest 'find the cave'.

otherwise it is a empty landscape.there is not much to free explore .

Alpha = the idea is now a game.
Beta = the game is now complete.
Gold = It's polished and in a box.

Nothing substantial will ever change once a game hits beta. If the beta sucks, the game will suck; unless balance tweaks are the problem children. But I don't know what Pillars of Eternity is, so can't say. Just clearing up the definitions.

Trivia: in some extreme cases, I've seen Alphas/Betas look much better than the finished games. Development can be hell.

I could care less about disappearing corpses in this game or any other game. The reason for it is obvious - the need to free up system memory.

One other thing, the guys working on Pillars had at best a tenth of the budget the BioWare had. Not that I'd expect you to understand a concept like Perspective.
