Something that annoyed that was hand-waved, and understandably so, was that Cole could never really see into your Inquisitor's mind like the others except in specific circumstances, example: Solas's romance. Its understandable, how could Cole read the mind of a blank slate upon which the player projects their own characteristics. But what if he could? If Cole could read your character's (and by extension your) mind like the other companions what would he say?

I'll start, in character

"Blood, too much blood. The street a litter of bodies, robed and armoured. More blood, too much now. Flowing, gushing, won't stop. A body in my arms, limp, silver breastplate rent, stained red. Won't stop, won't stop, too much. Blue eyes quickly dimming. A voice, so weak now, "Brother, it hurts"...."

Don't worry, I'm sure Cole wouldn't understand half the things he saw anyway

lol. Nothing like that. Just my head is private, and what Cole does is an invasion of that privacy, plus I think I would not be as "kind" as Sera is and would try to kill him if he did it.

"Why do you keep stuffing that dirty sock in my mouth?  Don't you want me telling people your darkest secrets? "

Seriously though, as much as I liked every other aspect of Cole, I always felt uncomfortable when he started blurting out people's private regrets...

Not everyone plays self-inserts. I'm not sure what Cole would see in my Inquisitors' minds. There's too many of them. BUT! It's worth thinking about.

It doesn't have to be a self insert but there are many that play multiple playthroughs. With the various races and classes ending up feeling too similar dialogue wise what would Cole see that would differentiate your various characters from each other?

Let's see. For my main Inquisitor:

"Caged by your role, bound by duty, chained by others' faith in you. What is a mage's freedom worth if it is like this? You fight against the chaos, you would not be you if you didn't, but looking at Corypheus, you also see what you want to become: a Lone Power beholden to none."

Towering, triumphant, but chained to the world, holding it on the shoulders, a titan. Lives in my hands, a criminal's hands, always in them, stained red with blood. How much more can I endure, how much death can I witness? A servant to a king, a helper loyal as the sun and the moon, a stranger in a strange land. Do I have a home? Do I deserve a home?

That's only a brief bit about what he'd get from Nasir.

For some reason, I just didn't want to recruit Cole. I had some people that I didn't care too much about and I didn't want to add Cole into the group of people that I hardly pay attention to.

I don't know if I could write the in-character dialogue for it. I do think he'd see her struggle with losing her elven identity though. Once she was First in her clan, and now she's the Herald of Andraste. She doesn't want to be that, but she does want to be in the Inquisition, it's opened her eyes to so many things and given her the opportunity to do so much for others. If given the choice, she proabably wouldn't return to the clan.

Hmm. I'll give it a whirl anyway:

"Flat ear, false prophet. Forgotten your heritage and home. You were the last of the elvhenan, proud yet powerless. Now you have a chance to improve. Help people. Yours, Cassandra's, Varric's. A helping hand for all people. You're afraid that you are are no longer one of the People. But now you can help them more than they could ever help themselves."

When my Inquisitor took Cole to dinner, he called her gentle because she cares so much (even for him), and that's the truth regarding my Inquisitor and how I play all my heroes in DA games, because that's who I am.

"Quiet,Gentle and Stable,a silent song that moves the hearts of those who listen.A golden tree that grows in fields of green, it's shadow shelter in summer day when the sun burns hot.Destroying, burning everything around her but those that seek her shadow.Bound, anchored she cannot move, she cannot leave but does she want to leave? He is here singing a familiar song she thought she had forgotten. The one who keeps, but what does she keep if not secrets.Burdened, always trying to reach  for the hand, but it's too far."

What Cole would probably say about Laurelin.

Something about how my dalish was discontent with life in his clan and saw the inquisition as a way out.

I'll figure out the dramatic details later...

Cole: "You don't care about people."

Me: "Cole, I know I've done things that might look-."

Cole: "You don't care about people. And I don't have to stay here."

Me: "Cole. I don't want you to leave."

Cole: "You won't miss me. Forget."

Who were we talking about?

I dunno what he'd say about me, but he made an obscure reference recently to book 2 (The Wandering Fire) of "The Fionavar Tapestry" when I talked to him in the Skyhold tavern, which I thought was amazingly cool. It's one of the few references he made that I actually got

He said, "It didn't come from the flower. He drew it in the snow." and I geeked out.

Hmmm.. if Cole could read my inquisitors mind, my guess is that would probably go something like this:

"But I don't need to comb my hair.  My hat isn't stupid.  I'm not that whiny, honest I'm not.  He just doesn't understand how incredibly misunderstood I am.  Oh, wait - he does understand, he just doesn't give a crap.  Why doesn't he give a crap?  Oh, right, he's trying to save the entire world from destruction.  But still he should put my needs above all that right?  Just because he has it on good authority from people he trusts that I'm basically a demon of some sort and he's dedicated his life to destroying all the demons because we're trying to kill everyone he cares about.

He's just needs to set all that aside and take me completely at face value with zero proof because I'm so cute and needy.  Otherwise I will nag him to death every time he's waiting for a scene to load.  Oh my, I can't believe he would even think such language about me!"

Lol

After Cole's companion-quest (if the Spirit path was taken) you can ask Cole if he can read everybody/anybody.

He says "no," only the ones whom he senses need compassion.
