Do you find yourself pausing the game because it's too fast?

Most of the times the fights end so quickly and in attempt to feel like I'm doing something instead of auto attacking I pause the game and issue orders

This is one problem I have with this game

Unlike Origins, the pause is not to avoid getting slaughtered and to think about your next move, it's more like I have to pause so I can see wtf is going on in the battlefield and what I can I do to participate in it instead of auto attacking

It's so fast

I know what you mean it is pretty quick. Not generally myself but I do pause the game a fair bit in combat mode but I'd imagine most do. I mostly do this if I notice someone needs a top up on health though or I feel I need to issue specific instructions. Most of the time though I tend to let my team deal with their targets as they see fit. While I just sit in the background and heal them and throw a few fireballs or w3hatever given I play as a mage in most playthroughs

Only when they get stuck or I need to switch control and give a specific command.

Fast in more ways than one. When I first bought it, I didn't find it THAT fast! Is it my new laptop? I have all the levels at their highest but the speed of the battle is insane! I swear it was slower a few years ago... I think the most confused I got is when my female Hawke was using her staff on a demon and suddenly she was flying across the battlefield, right into Fenris and both hit a wall. I was like... "ok who did that and wtf just happened?"

I think it depends on the player's style... personally, I prefer a mixture of real time combat and pausing to consider my next few moves as the flow of battle changes (such as 5 guys jumping off a rooftop while the party engages a group of criminals).  However, I've seen several youtube videos of seemless Nightmare combat without any pausing whatsoever.  So basically, the pause is more or less valuable based on the player, the party composition, the difficulty level, and the builds of each party member... if you don't like how pausing works, try adjusting some of those aspects and you may enjoy the combat more (maybe.  This game is not for everyone).

I play on console and I sometimes find it difficult to target the correct enemy unless I pause (currently playing as a mage, not so problematic with melee attacks). But no I don't pause because it's too fast. Can't say I'm finding fights overly easy either, I've started another play through to try nightmare again and I am finding it quite challenging. I gave up last time, I made the mistake of starting the dlc which seemed much harder than the main game.

Yes it is insanely fast at times, and I love it :)

I just keep party members tactics as streamlined as possible and let them 'do their own thing' while I jump around doing mine. It feels more exciting :)

Agreed you jut have to find a way that works for you everyone has their own methods for getting through the games. I think I'm finjally got the right idea with Origins though for me to get through.

Dragon or hard boss fights? Sure, I'll pause

Regular mobs or rifts? No need imo

I pause a lot. I have to.

In any fight, especially with Isabella, Carver, or Fenris, or when Assassins are involved, there is usually a point were they've lost too much heath, and heals and potions are on cooldown, and I have to micromanage their movements to keep them alive for a bit.
