I just finished my 2nd playthrough, pro templar this time. And here's what i get - neither Samson nor Calpurnia could be killed "for sure". Samson can't be killed at all, and Calpurnia just jumpes of the cliff which is far from certain death.

In my opinion, writers secured that part of DAI's story from players influence so that they could use those characters for some major role in DLC or next DA game. Though i really hope they won't make them "Corypheus #2" by putting them as a main villain in next game.

You can kill Samson though? Or lock him up with the rest.

He can escape out of there (and he will).

I don't know about the antagonist part, what would be Calpernia's reasons? You can have a "good" ending with Samson what of his motives then? Also it's my impression that Samson in particular didn't had much time left.

I highly doubt it, the dlc will most likely be independent of Corepheus and his generals. It will probably involve some other generals other than Samson and Calpurnia. Just feels wasteful going with Samson and Calpurnia.

If any of Cory's followers make an appearance, I believe that it will be someone new.

In terms of storytelling, a familliar character would be better choice than completely new one.

Just feels wasteful going with Samson and Calpurnia.

They aren't wasted as long as they live.

Bah, Calpernia is clearly being saved to be a companion in w/e DA is set in the TI. It would be a waste to bring her back just for a DLC. Samson....will just become a giant lawn ornament. :P

Although I think the non-deaths for both Calpernia and Samson are just the devs being extra cautious with any NPCs that they think they might want to use again so they can avoid having to deal with the outcry from rezing someone like Lel, Ogrehen, or Anders again.

....but seriously, Calpernia for DA4 companion! :D

Well, I would like some sort of addition within the timeline of the main plot post Haven, something to help boost Cory's plummeting sense of threat after his great entrance.

So? That's easily explained by with Samson in charge she worked in the background instead, or stayed a slave. Either way she still exists.

I appreciated Calpernia. she wanted a Tevinter without magisters ruling and the slavery, buys slaves just to turn around and free them, and unlike herp derp Samson you can turn her against Corypheus by revealing he planned to make her into a slave again.

She'd make a pretty decent companion in the next game imo.

Like Leliana it just depends on how much the writers liked her.

She's mentioned in a note you find on either Venatori or bandit corpses in the Western Approach, even if you did In Hushed Whispers, so she's still around.

To be fair, DA has always been a bit funny with conditional characters. Back in Origins, if you played a Mage Warden, you were able to follow implications about how the characters that would have been the Human Noble and Dwarf Noble had you played them met their final fates. Calpernia could have simply been dealt with the same way.

This the same Calpernia who had no problems with using brainwashed Venatori and Wardens as slaves under her and her boss? She is no better than the magisters she claims to oppose.

Unless I missed it being discovered recently, there is no concrete evidence that the mages were brainwashed (killed if they didn't agree to join yes, but that isn't "brainwashing") and I don't recall her being mentioned directly during the Warden plot so her level of involvement, knowledge, and approval of said plan is presently unknown.

Right, the mages where 90+% of them express their dislike of the Tevinter mages clearly are serving of their own free will. But let's say they aren't literally brainwashed like the Warden mages. They are still slaves and under threat of death have to do what the Venatori and Corypheus want. How is that better?

She is the leader of the Venatori thus knows and in fact is in charge of all their operations. That includes the Venatori mage persuading Warden Commander Clarel to do the mass demon summoning and thus putting the Warden mages under mind control. And she approves whatever Corypheus does.

TO be fair, it's probably hard to find a group to work for that agrees entirely with your beliefs. Her beliefs may not reflect those entirely of Corypheus'.

Honestly I didn't feel particularly interested in Samson or Calpernia, the latter only being mildly more interesting than the former (who's mostly interesting only as a foil for Cullen).

If we see a DLC involving Corypheus' forces, I'm betting they'll just pull out a new character since that's just easier.

I recall there being more mages who supported or were indifferent to Fiona's deal than there were who out right opposed it. It is better in that the person keeps their mind. It is still a horrible thing to do, but I can certainly see someone from TI having no issue with indentured servitude (which is what the agreement was for). Does that make it right? No, but it could certainly make for an interesting character.

I don't recall the Venatori being mentioned once during the Greg Warden plot either. The mage interacting with the Warden makes clear that he directly took orders from Cory himself, so it is entirely possible that Calpernia was out of the loop on that plan as we know Cory didn't tell her everything. And we know Calpernia does not approve of everything Cory did otherwise it wouldn't be possible to talk her down.

Calpernia will definitely return in a future game, I think. Her character unique design and lack of a visible body after her suicide smacks of "We have plans for this character." Samson's story is done, I think.

Perhaps you see the other general in the DLC (meaning Calpernia if you sided with the mages and Samson if you sided with the Templars) so that there is closure to both of them

I still felt like they should've had someone else besides Samson

i don't know about calpernia (i'm only halfway through the pro-templar questline), but samson is definitely done.  he willingly takes red lyrium, knowing what it would do.  he would've succumbed to it long ago if corypheus hadn't stalled it.  when you judge him at skyhold, he mentions that he won't have long to live without corypheus' help.
