Thought I would make a thread about this choice of mine. My system went belly up and lost all of my files for the mass effect series , So I'm going to have to replay the series once again >.>

I plan on being a Sentinel however Idk which kind of Sentinel I should stick with.

In ME I only played it once so I manage to unlock the Assault Rilfe , if I pick that then in ME2 on the ship I'll pick the AR then keep using the AR in ME3.

If Shotgun get's picked then I'll grind till I get the Shotgun. Once that's done in ME I'll be a Shotgun Sentinel then on the ship in ME2 I'll pick up the Shotgun and so on in ME3.

Reason why I can't just pick the AR in ME , then pick the Shotgun in ME2 is cause I'm kinda going by a RP role with my Sentinel and want it to be canon he's always used that certain type of weapon throughout the series.

Depends on how you plan on playing the Sentinel in ME2.

if you like playing more of an assault/close-quarters Sentinel in ME2, then go shotguns. If you prefer hugging cover more and casting powers, then go assault rifles.

Note that you can still use a shotgun in ME1 even without training as a Sentinel, you just cannot aim it or use Carnage. Not using Carnage is no big loss. The loss of aim kind of sucks, but you can still manage. You can then just sort of say that ME1 ARs = ME2 SMGs.

Regardless, I would base my choice on how you like playing the ME2 Sentinel:

 - If you cast a lot (Throw, Warp, Overload, and/or Cryo Blast, and bonus power), then the Vindicator -- or Mattock if you prefer -- fits in nicely as a backup weapon between the Carnifex/Phalanx for armor and your chosen SMG for shields and barriers.

 - If you prefer the assault/close-quarters-combat style of play with Assault Armor, then shotguns are much better. The Shuriken or Tempest makes for a good shotgun backup/substitute.

It really does not matter what you use in ME3. Assault Rifles are probably a little better in ME1 for the Sentinel since the ME1 Sentinel can only get Basic Marksman, so Assault Rifles will give you the best Damage-Per-Second (DPS) if you care about that sort of thing.

Another option would be to take Singularity as a bonus power; but then you would have to avoid putting points into Neural Shock to avoid a power wheel bug (console only). This would make you like an Adept that can unlock crates.

I think of Sentinel's more support roles like a Shield Warrior in Dragon Age , helping my squad in a jam. This really helped me alot so I believe I'll pick Assault Rilfes , that way I can be mid-long range and always helping my squad mates with some healing and such.
