Do you think the average dwarf could go toe-to-toe with the average qunari in an arm-wrestling competition? Both races (the fellas in particular) are seriously... dense in the arms. Dwarves and qunari must have crazy upper body strength.

Obligatory reference pics:

Some of these are from DA2 simply 'cause... I'm having trouble finding any good screenies of Qunquisitor arms in DAI. And I can't seem to find any decent individual pics detailing the ladies' musculature, but if someone has them on hand, feel free to add them to this collection. For science!

(P.S. This is absolutely not at all a flimsy excuse to post sexy pixelated guns. Noooope. Not even a little.)

Maybe the Qunari just on sheer size but the Dwarf could put up one hell of a fight. It'd be close but if I saw the Iron Bull versus Varric my moneys on the Bull. But if you substituted someone like Oghren into the mix it'd be harder to call in my opinion.

I think the qunari might have the upper hand on this one. Those guys are born to be athletes.

I'd put my money on the dwarf. Especially one who masturbates more than a 15 year old boy.

I don't know if Bull counts as average. He's supposed to be large even by qunari standards.

What about specific examples?

The Arishock vs Branka comes to mind for me...but I know it wouldn't happen, because Branka would just show up with a really big weapon of some kind, like a big ballista with explosive bolts.

I'd put coin on the dwarf because if both of their elbows must touch the table while arm-wrestling, then the qunari, with the longer arm, is going to have to loosen the slack. The dwarf would have more of an upper arm advantage in this scenario.

Clearly, the elf would win. ...God they're little in comparison.

Varric is Varric. Dwarf is an understatement. Dem sexy arms. Even I'd be too distracted by it to win him at arm wrestling.

But supposedly not inherently weaker (than humans, at least). Seriously, perhaps all the elves are Arcane Warriors and just don't know about it? They just, like, passively use their magic all the time to strengthen their bodies. Or something.

But back to the topic, the problem with "average" Qunari is that those we meet aren't really average. We generally speaking meet soldiers, they're selected for their strength and even bred specifically for the purpose of being strong. Male craftsmen (I bet many of them were supposed to be leaders but turned out to be male) likely are much less bulky...

Either way, I always got the impression that having longer arms is in fact an advantage in arm wrestling? If so, then Qunari should win. But Gilsa suggests the opposite and frankly I'm no expert.

Trick question. The real winners are the audience...

Oh, I'm no expert either. I could test my longer-arm theory on my toddler, but it wouldn't be a fair fight. =p

Dayum Varric is swole. What armor is that?

EDIT:

Also, pretty sure the dwarf would win. Qunari would have to bend their arm weirdly to even clasp a dwarf's hand.

Depends, would the dwarf stand on a box or the quanri kneel?

I wish I knew. I'd have him wear it all the time. For, uh, research purposes.

Well, if it's Fenris...

Huh, you're right. Hadn't thought about that. Then again, Bull's a spy and he's like a super duper bara muscle man... so maybe there are craftsmen who have a warrior's physique, it's just they've ultimately got the brains/personality/temperament for craftsmanship and that supersedes their musculature?

And in that case... what's the average dwarf like? Should Varric, dwarf Warden/Inquisitor, Sigrun, Oghren be out of the running because they're all combatants? Ahahaha I didn't think this through, whoops.

Don't forget Scout Harding.

She's going to have developed a very strong arm from all that archery, especially since Thedas hasn't invented a compound bow yet?

Bull was actually bred for military work, so his physique was expected out of his breeding. What was the surprise was that he could lie and manipulate people as well as he did, and so once they figured that out they changed his spec over to Ben-Hassrath. Bull still did a lot of violent military work, he just did it under Ben-Hassrath instead. So if someone bred for military ended up surprising the tamassrans with their ability to do other things then they might get changed over, but I don't think it might go as far as someone bred for military ending up as a baker or something, their breeding programs are probably more accurate than that at this point haha.

If the Tamassrans bred someone for the pure purpose of winning arm wrestling matches, I think that the dwarf would lose for sure. >.>

Dwarf would win, because the dwarf would be smart enough to put all their money on the qunari and then throw the match.

Alternatively the dwarf is in the merchants guild and the qunari owes him money and has to throw the match to pay his debt!

Or even more alternatively, both the Dwarf and Qunari are secretly con-men and the arm wrestling contest is merely a distraction to allow their other accomplices to steal a huge amount of cash from the upstairs safe. As a result, regardless of who loses the match, both of them win in the end.
