The phrase? It doesn't bother me. It's the connotation of it used in relation to a complaint, that somehow her romance is more childish. I've watched it and it seemed more inspired by classical literature. I also don't think it sums up her romance at all. If anything, I think the phrase is being used to dismiss any and all mature themes that are in her romance arc because of elements that Disney popularized in the 20th century.
I also am familiar with her fans calling her that. Which is weird, but I'm not judging them. It's the people (usually those that start those posts by proclaiming that they are straight men) that call her that and then start going off on why she "isn't good enough" and that "straight men got the shaft" that I question.
I disagree with the complaint, because frankly I've seen too many folks state that and then start asking for more explicit sex scenes. The biggest complaint I heard about Josie's romance was that there was no sex scene. The term "Disney Romance" usually follows after that complaint. So it's hard for me to take that complaint seriously. I've seen far too many posters claim that having a classical style duel and no sex scene made her a "Disney Romance."
I've personally seen a lot of folks with constructive posts who explained very well why they felt the content of Josephine like a dysney romance. I personally think it is a bit true actually. The classical style duel isn't the issue itself, it's how it was portrayed like an anime that was the issue. ( I love you, jump in my arms, the atmosphere, etc etc ) There are also other details I could explain, But I don't want to argue about Josephine in a useless topic that doesn't concern her.
I've also seen in the josephine thread people who said that they liked Josephine for what I said above.
The biggest complaint I've seen about Josephine personally is that people found her content or her personality boring, not written for adults. The lack of sex scene is also often mentioned but not alone. It just adds to what they disliked overall about her romance, it was hardly the only reason why they totally disliked her romance.
You also have other people who just find her ugly, but I wasn't talking about them.
Anyways, I'm not going to argue, I just wanted to know why you felt so strong.
