Why can't we have a romance option like Isabella for straight male gamers? The gay male gamers got Dorian.

In Dragon Age 2, if you play a MALE HAWKE and wish to romance Isabella, you can. Isabella is extremely attractive.  To gay men, Dorian is extremely attractive.

So the question is why don't straight male gamers get an attractive romance option like Isabella, Morrigan or Leliana in Inquisition?

Please no trolling or flaming.

Bioware, just please answer the question, thank you.

(I really hope this thread stays open, thank you).

Correct, but she is romance-able by a straight male hawke.

Dorian and Isabella are highly attractive.

The real issue is in the technical approach of the 3D geometry and the original concept art of Cassandra.

https://www.youtube....h?v=LS9vD12KxDg - The difference between male & female faces from an artists perspective.  Compare this data to Cassandra Pentaghast's geometry in 3D Studio Max.

Cassandra in 3D Studio Max - Compare every part of her face to the artists drawings in the above youtube link. I'm not going to give my personal opinon, instead I want the viewers of this thread to draw their own conclusion.

Yes, because Bioware games are highly immersive in every regard.  It's no different from being immersed in a hollywood movie that has intellectually stimulating and thought provoking content of a sexual or non-sexual nature.

I have no problem with that, I want everyone to be happy, not just a particular group of individuals.

You have two romanced. You have brainwashed my pop culture and media to expect your female characters to look a certain way.

Hopefully when you get older...you will mature and learn there is MORE than one standard type of beauty.

I'm gay, and Dorian attracts me exactly the same as a 2-week rotten corpse of a goat. In fact, it's Bull who's my kind of guy instead (or Blackwall if he wasn't a friggin' liar).

Why people still try to bind extravagancy or being effeminate to all gay men is beyond me.

The guy is full of blanket statements about what gay and straight men want for physical attraction.  Coffee?

Yep, because obviously he's an expert on gay sexuality. My gosh....

No, no coffee. Chai for me, thanks.

These kind of threads man. They make me want to tear out hunks of my hair with the kind of responses they tend to garner.

To answer your question OP: there isn't a reason. There's no conspiracy. Or at least I don't think  there is. You might as well ask why DID straight male gamers get an 'attractive' LI like Isabela in DA2. Cuz that's how the coin landed. Maybe you'll get someone in the next game, maybe you won't. And this isn't even going into the iffy topic of attraction. I found Cassandra quite mannish and unattractive myself, initially. I don't know whether it's the fact that I got to 'know' her or just that I've had more time to look at her but I actually think she's striking now, maybe not traditionally attractive but not unappealing either.

Remember kids, attractiveness is entirely a matter of objective fact.

I'd like a fiercely anti religion squadmate. Just for once.

Hell, call it a token Atheist, for all I care. We already had the token Christian in Mass Effect.

We did.  She's called Morrigan.   :P

Edit: Okay, I do see your point.  It would be nice to have someone with that mentality around after this game.

Yeah Morrigan, but someone a bit more extreme. Someone who actually attacks the Chantry and its beliefs for the foolishness that's everywhere, instead of laughing it off.

Like attacking that somehow the Maker loves everybody, but at the same time leaves them to fend for themselves. The same silly mental trickery is necessary to turn that into an act of love as is needed for many, many things in Christianity, Islam and Judaism. (Like Abraham and Isaac. Call Abraham 'Mike' and Isaac 'James', and suddenly it's a story about child abuse to the highest degree)

It would be easy to make it too much like Anders.   Remember, he believed in Andraste, but hated the Chantry.  He talked about how much he hated the Chantry back in Awakening, before him and Justice did the One Body Boogie.  If anything, he talked a lot about how the Chantry screwed up Andrastianism.

Even then, I think I'm good with anyone's potential LIs committing brutal terrorist attacks against the central religious organization.

Nothing personal, but no, just...no.   <_<

You misunderstood. And that's my own fault I suppose, because I mentioned the chantry.

It's not about attacking the chantry with real force, bombs and other terrorist stuff, but attacking the belief in the Maker itself. About the mental gymnastics necessary to make the Maker a force of good in any way.

I mean, seriously, what the hell is good about a guy that creates the World, thinks it's boring with just spirits, makes the other species and then says: 'ahw hell no, this ain't what I wanted. Screw you guys, I'm going home'. You need to delude yourself in many ways to make that an act of good.

They probably won't touch on it because that is, in effect, an attack on the real world religions, which need to same mental trickery to make God/JHWH/Allah into anything more but a psychopath.

Actually I remember DG saying she isn't actually an Atheist

IIRC correctly, the writers clarified that there are no atheists in Thedas.  You can be very agnostic, but the closest we're ever going to get to an atheist is Morrigan in this setting.

I got the impression that Solas did it quite a bit.  If you think about it, he's also another example of the closest thing that Thedas has to athesim, in that he doesn't seem to practice any religion.  He will challenge a pro-Chantry player about their beliefs in the Maker.

Are you saying you want that to be a primary character motivation for a future companion?  You know, their end goal rather than only in conversations with the PC and party members?  Just curious.

Hopefully the thread is still open when I submit this message.

Personally, I think Cassandra was attractive enough for the straight male gamer, myself being one of them. Could she have been better? Sure. Did she have to be? No.

My original idea on romances was for Inquisition to have a customizable romance option, where you basically create a character that you want to romance. Appearance, race, body type, sexuality, etc. Even backstory would be chosen by the player. This would solve a lot of problems, I think.

Even a being thought as a god can have religious views to express.  It's in fantasy fiction quite a bit.  You do bring up an excellent point though.   ;)

I'm a little bummed about Solas in an odd sort of way.  I loved the Dread Wolf is the Maker theory and the writers just had to go and spoil it.

There's only one Maker and his name is Morgan Freeman and occasionally Liam Neeson

Ugh, let me say it in a weird way:

Basically, I want Richard Dawkins as companion.

Good :P

But Solas.... easily my favourite Bioware character ever. Can not find the words to express how awesome Solas is. I can not express how excited I was after the epilogue, I can only say: 'Wow, Bioware. You might've just shown me the most effective cliffhanger ever'

They worshiped dragons instead of the Maker. They massacred millions to invade the Maker's throne. They burned the Maker's chosen at the stake and stabbed her. I'd say the Maker was justified in his actions.

Cassandra managed to work her way into my Top #5.  That surprised me, considering I'm pretty picky.  Daleon is still #4 after over 11 years.

Solas is very cool though, and I personally like the way he looks.  I never caught the wolf features that was deliberately put in until much later.  The angle and point of the ears, much of the shape of the eyes.  Even the eye color reminds me of a timber wolf, since some of them can have that icy blue.

On that note, I wanted to point out that it isn't just straight men that have complained about their LIs.  Most of the complaining about looks in general has been from self-proclaimed straight men, but I think you and I remember quite well all the "Nosferatu" remarks that were made when the Alpha footage was around of Solas.   Some of the posters making those comments I know were women.

Once the more finalization versions of his appearance came out, most of that crap stopped.  The big difference is that I didn't see 2-3 threads a week complaining about how ugly the male LI options looked.  More like 1-2 a month, tops.

Ah yes, the fundamental problem with Creators: they are really jealous SOBs who will not stand for people using the free will they got from him/her. And they must be worshipped, oh yes. Cause beings with the power to create entire worlds really dig hard on the worship and care very much for what those puny, insiginificant little beings they created think.

Puh-lease. What a joke.

And those communication tactics... Instead of just telling everybody what's what, they choose one person to deliver the message.

Puh-lease.
