I think people are watching too much anime, where people always have no jawline, tiny button noses and mouths, and huge doe eyes. Real people don't look like that.
Why can't we have a romance option like Isabella for straight male gamers?

I love how he gave her boob plate armor, considering the banter between her and Bull regarding female armor.

I really don't get why some are so dissatisfied with her appearance in Inquisition. She looks great to me, and just about the right age for the time period of the game.

As a straight male gamer, I'm perfectly happy with Cass.
You can keep your Isabela.

Bleh, not me. However, let's not get into that debate again, since I know how both of us feel about that.
At least you know my reasons aren't lewd like a lot of people who like it are.

Anime/manga isn't the only culprit in this mindset, or even necessarily the largest contributor. Personally I think the biggest contributor is things like Barbie. Not everyone in the world knows about anime/manga, but pretty much everyone knows what a Barbie doll is.

Without the giant label telling me who that was, I would have no idea that was Cassandra. She looked like such a generic comic book babe and drained of all identity. Cassandra may not be to everyone's taste, which is fine. If someone wants to mod her that much, it's their game. It takes a lot of talent and time to do that kind of a mod. They can knock themselves out.
BioWare isn't going to cave in and change Cassandra due to a mod, so not sweat off of me. They aren't going to go in and patch her so she's considered more conventionally pretty. As evidenced by this thread, there are plenty of posters that find Isabela far from their taste, and prefer someone like Cass.
Some loud and obnoxious posters said Aveline looked like a guy as well back before DAI came out (some still do I'm sure, but they are too busy whining about Cass these days.) It was another jawline issue. Funny, I never realized that straight men noticed jawlines that much. In all my life, I've never been complimented on my jawline. By men or by anyone. And my face is very oval with a narrow jawline. I've had men compliment me on my neckline. Close enough?
BioWare's response was to make Cassandra look much closer to her concept art (not the anime, that was a different team that came up with her look) and put her out there. Comments be damned. It makes me smile every time.
Dear BioWare,
Please continue to ignore the small vocal minority of straight men that complain that Cassandra is ugly. Many men as well as women find her amazing the way she is. We appreciate the love and time you take to create individual women that are unique and not a clone of an anime/comic book babe. ![]()

Totally agree. I'm actually shocked people say she's androgynous looking, she's totally feminine in her appearance, she's just practical and places other things of higher importance above how she looks. She reminds me of Morena Baccarin, who is extremely feminine.
It's like people think short hair=/=androgynous.

Hair, seriously I think if she had long hair or at least scenes where she let her hair down the reaction would be different. She has striking features. Reminds me as an oldster of people who used to call Annie Lennox "butch" when she is a stunning women just with a "weird" haircut.

That too. When people say she doesn't 'look feminine' (whatever that means), they almost always bring her haircut into the argument, which automatically causes them to lose all credibility as far as I'm concerned.
I don't know where the notion that short hair doesn't mean feminine came from. It's truly bizarre.

And the hair thing every time I see that I honestly think that the person bringing it up is actually a child because of the many many MANY times I've had this talk with my young cousin who thinks short hair=boy. Can not take people using the hair as an example seriously.

That sounds like a Tin Foil Theory hat to me. I've heard that before, and I don't buy it. Evidence besides a few fans declaring it so? Statement from BioWare? I surfed nexus quite a bit while playing the ME games for the first time last summer. I saw ME3 mods that made Ashley look like her ME1 appearance more than any mods that were sexing her up.
Even though I was "meh" on Ashley's appearance change, it's not like she was singled out to get sexed up. If you notice, in ME3, a lot of the female characters and NPCs had that happen between games. I don't think that has a damn thing to do with mods, or even the players for that matter. The creative team decided this, for whatever reason. The only character I remember fans having direct input on was female Shepard. Which was a horrible idea and one that I hope that they never repeat.
A few things:
First, Manveer Heir in 2014 at GDC admitted that they would do certain things differently going forward. Ashley's appearance change as well as the Miranda butt-cam where mentioned as things that needed improvement.
Secondly, David Gaider back in 2013 at GDC at said that the DA team wasn't going to patch a character's appearance or sexuality based on fan feedback. Also admitted that the Miranda butt-cam was a mistake, and that BioWare was not above making them.
Third, I'm 99.99% certain Cassandra will not be a returning party member due to her possible Divine status.
Fourth, Ashley was changed in between games, not as a patch.
Finally, mostly different teams.

Did they actually specifically acknowledge the infamous Miranda ass-shot? That's very honest of them. I know they said they wouldn't be doing those kinds of scenes but I wasn't aware they mentioned that scene.

Oh yeah, DG put a screenshot of one of the worst of them during the panel, the "desk sitting" scene in ME2 (where you see Miranda's butt, the dialogue options and Shep in the background and that's about it,) when he talked about "We [BioWare] have made mistakes in the past." Check out the 2013 GDC panel with him. It's quite good. Plus, GDC is the Game Developers Conference. So he wasn't speaking/appeasing to fans, he was talking to his peers.

Ignoring all of your terrible assumptions, the easy answer is that none of the companions turned out that way.Why can't we have a romance option like Isabella for straight male gamers? The gay male gamers got Dorian.
When you start a job, and none of the other people there are attractive to you, what do you do? You don't romance any of them.
If you don't want to romance Cassandra, don't romance Cassandra. If you don't want to romance Dorian, don't romance Dorian.
I fail to see the problem.
I romanced Dorian because he seemed like a really interesting character. I don't usually play gay characters, but I made one so I could romance Dorian. If there's a character you want to romance, you can do that. If there's a character you don't want to romance, you don't have to.
What's your complaint?

Well, let's be honest, Mass Effect was never as forward thinking about female representation as Dragon Age has been. Other than Tali, Kasumi, and Chakwas, every major female character in the series is designed to be eye candy.
