I don't really understand the mentality that the romances are there to romantically please the player.

Even in real life, this mentality annoys me. All of my previous girlfriends would constantly point out that I, once again, failed to please them, and I was always like, "Um... so?"

Even though I'm not a Straight Male Gamer, and my opinion doesn't count, I do like lists, so I want to play. (And even though I'm not attracted to them, I do tend to romance the female love interests, so it's content that I take advantage of. Anyway...)

As an aside, I don't really understand the mentality that the romances are there to romantically please the player. Maybe I'm an outlier, but I always looked at it as offering the option for a subplot in the story I'm telling, so I try to pick from the options based on what my character would like, not what provides a vicarious thrill for me.

I find Aveline the most attractive, and she was well written, sad we couldn't romance her though.

I don't think I would be able to make an accurate list based on appearance alone. Personality (and voice!) strongly dictates how I view a character. For example, before going on my pre-release DAI blackout I had already seen all of the companion reveals. I thought Dorian looked ridiculous with the facial hair, but now I think he's just gorgeous and love him to bits. Similarly with Alistair; I'm not typically into blondes, but his awkwardness was endearing, as Leliana says, and he won me over.

 

However, I will say that I think Leliana, Morrigan, and Cassandra are more attractive in DAI than they were in their previous games.

My post is not flame bait nor is it trolling, it's 100% genuine and serious.  Dragon Age games are very important to me. A lot of you have insulted me at a personal level, this is my response to you.

 

Dear Gay men & women, straight women,

 

I'm a straight male gamer, but at this point I'd rather you guys be happier than me.  I wouldn't mind if every Dragon Age game from now on caters more to your sexual preferences rather than mine, but all I ask is that there is one highly attractive female to romance for us straight male gamers, you can call me a shallow loser if you want, I don't care, I love Dragon Age. In exchange, the rest of the party members can be gay/lesbian or highly attractive males.  I seriously won't mind if I have like 5 companions in the party who are gay men or lesbian. Hell, you can make everyone in Thedas gay & lesbian and I wouldn't hate.

 

I genuinely want the LGBT people to be happy.

I genuinely want more female gamers to enjoy RPG's.

 

I want you guys to enjoy Dragon Age to the highest degree and am willing to settle for just one attractive female romance option per Dragon Age game.

I'm basing the above order on female facial features and body types from the most beautiful women in the world. I have diagrams and reference photos.

 

 

 

Actually, you can approach physical beauty on a technical level.  You can easily create a female face that 99% of straight men will find attractive.  However, skin tone plays a huge part in attraction, so allowing the player to change skin tone would be in order.  Dragon Age 2 already did this with Hawke's family.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that it's because you understand that they're not there to romantically please the player.

 

1. It's impossible, because a video game can't romantically please someone.

 

2. It's impossible, because a game designed to provide a love interest for every conceivable desire would be in development for eternity.

 

3. It's mindbogglingly insane to look to a video game for romantic satisfaction.

 

As to the broader point of how characters are supposed to be attractive, BioWare makes a lot of Star Wars games. Has anyone seen Darth Vader's face? That dude does not look like Chris Helmsworth, and if he did, that would suck.

Heh I see other people responded before me. This thread keeps getting "bumped" anyway, so I don't know why he has bothered doing that. Having a rapidly moving thread isn't cause for closure or a ban. Just look at the speedy Cullen thread for evidence of that.
