Why can't we have a romance option like Isabella for straight male gamers?

Cassandra the rapist?

I'm not really here nor there on that subject... She isn't the real Cassandra anyway.

The only one I tried to romance so far was Blackwall... and that was super-awkward because I actually totally hate beards...
I mean I thought I was okay with it... but then Blackwall leaned in to my Inquisitor for a mouthful and I was all "EW! CTHULHU TENTACLES! GETITOFFGETITOFFGETITOFF!"

Joke was on me. He wasn't the real Blackwall either.
And since Cullen isn't the real Cullen and Iron-Bull is a Qunari ...  Well... I'll be playing gay characters from now on.

Dorian without Mustache is so beautiful it hurts and his personality kind of reminds me of Anders before "the change".

I really don't see Cassandra being a romantic and an intellectual as a weakness.

Anders? Why just  Anders? Female players need  a degree in psychology to romance in  every single DA game.

There have always been a greater variety of romanceable females in Bioware games. Generally split evenly between the pathetic ones and the fairly strong (mostly just Tsundere) ones.

BUT for years... all the male ones were not only pathetic but super-annoying.  To the point where it feels dirty to even pretend to show interest in them, or respond with anything other than utter disgust.

e.g. Anomen Delryn, Carth Onasi, Kaiden Alenko (sorta), frickin Alastair ...

The later ones were better than the earlier ones... arguably.... but it was an annoying trend not to have any decent options.
Sky in Jade Empire was a bit of a borderline case. Perhaps the first attempt at getting out of the whiny douche-man ghetto.

Actually... that reminds me....
KotOR 2...
Not Bioware.
And suddenly Atton Rand.
Everything a Bioware male LI should have been.

Atton Rand was freakin awesome. He was like the antithesis of Carth Wailing-Manchild Onasi.

Needed glasses though.

I'll grant you that early on, it was.  Although, I'll respectfully disagree with you about Alistair.  To be fair, the ME team did have Garrus as a romance, and I'm not sure about your feelings on it, but I loved every second.     I liked Alistair, but I wasn't as big of a fan of Zevran's romance.  I have really liked all of the options I've gotten from DA2 onward.

My exact type when it comes to physical looks in men has yet to show up, but I'm fine with that.  I'd rather have the interesting stories and the sense of humor that my favorites have all turned out to have.  <shrug>

Well there is a rather big portion of players who like that sort of angst and like to be the the pillow.

You sure they haven't just forced themselves to pretend they like it in order to show their loyalty to Bioware?

I'm honestly not convinced.
Anomen and Carth were easily the worst. Like every time you stopped to talk to them, they'd just go off into a long, whiny rant about horrible horrible things that happened to them and how awful their life is.... then stop to criticise the rest of the party and disapprove of all the characters better than they are. And no matter how nice to them you are, they never stop whining. And if you do even one thing wrong they're all "UGH! I HATE YOU!" ...
In comparison, Alastair and Kaiden were a little better. They tempered their whining with the occasional joke and didn't push it too strong...  but they STILL whined too much by my reckoning.

That said I always kept Kaiden alive in Mass Effect because Ashley was #1 ugly, #2 religious #3 useless (who needs Soldiers anyway?) ...
Mass Effect 2 was so much better... especially with the DLC costumes with shades... <3

Still though... Atton Rand? Yay? Nay?
Or is there nobody else alive who played KotOR2?

Kaidan never whined. He was rather well adjusted considering what happened to him. I think many people who feel this way are the ones who played with Carth and are suffering flashbacks due to his VA.

The worst thing I can say about Kaidan was that he was a little dull, but he was alright.  I didn't feel like I was playing Therapist Hero again.

Doh!  Anomen ... just shoot me now and get it over with.  And I had such high hopes for Valygar and nothing.

By ME3, both Kaiden and Ashley are due for long visits in the hospital for PTSD. Thank goodness for the Citadel DLC.

To be fair, Ash/Kaiden had the crap choked out of them by Eva and tossed around into the shuttle like a rag doll.  I do get the rest of your point though.

I've always thought Atton was a bit bland character (though still a lot more interesting than the Disciple).
The best male companion for a romance in K2 would have been Bao-Dur.

Bao-Dur's voice was one of his best features.

Maybe there is a masochist like this or two (people are weird), but I doubt the majority  is. I played KOTOR2 but for the life of me can't remember what the game was about.

I've yet to encounter a character that would check every box on my romance (or maybe I should say male companion character) list, Cullen has checked more than others.

This thread has been kidnapped more times than Princess Peach by now...

...which btw, is an attractive, romanceable female option for straight male characters...

I have no idea why this came to mind.

As far as the rapping, well...it was the early 90s.  That happened a lot.

D=  But.... I LOVED Alistair... I hadn't seen any romance prior or since that's even come close to the feels he invoked from me ;_; especially once the free love mod came out ^_^

Going to replay it soon, Just after I have finished this new run at KotoR1. Sigh. I loved the guy. Expecially the comments with the tead about the Exile.

Still, Bao... <3  <3  <3

Edit: because forgot: Bao was almost a regret like Sand in NWN2. Almost.
