And both of them are arguably the character, in their respective games, that has the most character-development during the story.

Definitely agree with this, Isabela is probably the character with the most depth and hidden layers in DA2, as well as goes through the most amount of character development due to her friendship and/or romantic relationship with Hawke.

I don't know about that. Isabela can pretty much stay as she is, depending on Hawke. Like with the ship choice.

Not that I'm complaining. I liked her.

She only has the development if you romance her, true. But she is far from the same person at the end, as the one she was at the beginning.

I think all of the DA2 romances were handled similarly actually... their development all had that crisis point that allowed you to teach them something or not.

edit: well, maybe not Anders

Merril is still a moron if you romance her or not.

She still breaks/keeps the Eluvian depending on you. And decides to dwell on the past or focus on the present (the city elves and their plight).

I think I'm derailing though... Back to Isabela :)

I think the rivalry system is good for character development since it makes DA2's companions to rethink their choices and themselves. Friend-path often reassured them about themselves and their choices.

I haven't gone with rival path with Isabela though, she betrayed my Hawke in two of my first playthroughs and was my Hawke's friend in third one.

Rivalry with Isabela is pretty interesting and works in many ways, depending on your personality. A diplomatic Hawke kind of comes off as a goody goody who finger wags. Aggressive Hawke makes her feel like a dumba$$. And someone who doesn't like having fun. lol

Lol, perhaps if Isabela wasn't sold off like livestock.

Well, Dorian's family wanted to breed him like livestock, so there's that.

I would like to thank everyone for making this thread so educational. There's science, math and history all in one thread!  :wizard:

If your main concern are looks, Cassandra is an excellent choice for a straight male. All in all, I didn't really enjoy the Inquisition romances. First of all, it takes AGES getting forward with them and once you reached the climax, it is all more or less over. After that, nothing interesting comes anymore. Yeah, pretty boring.

As a straight male gamer myself, the lack of decent looking romanceable women bugged me at first.

I mean, Morrigan, Leliana, Isabela and Merril are far superior to Cassandra and Josephine in terms of looks and I would argue in terms of character arc and personality as well. The best looking female follower who is interesting in Inquisition is Vivienne and she is not romanceable.

But over time I got over it because there are positives to everything.

Since the straight male romance options for Inquisition are rather mundane and mediocre, I do not have to take them seriously. I do not have to emotionally invest in them at all. Eventually, due to the fact there were only two dull options, over time, it just became a dull sluggish affair. Like romance in real life.

Which meant over time my straight male Inquisitors just stopped bothering about romances. Now my straight male Inquisitor does not romance these 2 available options because "Hey, these are decent looking women with some interesting personality"...but instead romances them because "All right, I am stressed because of my workload as Herald and I need to bang a chick somewhere, no brothels, I have 2 cliched unattractive choices, one a Disney princess and the other a religious tsundere so let's just flip a coin and go with one."

If Bioware's goal was to make straight male games disinterested and indifferent to romanceable female characters, they sure did succeed. Congratulations.

Yep, the romances for straight male Inquisitors felt...ordinary...it didn't feel special or fantastical or memorable...

One's religious strong independent empowered tsundere who likes smutty literature = A religious feminist who gets off on reading 50 Shades of Grey...

The other one is a Disney Princess...I don't think I need to elaborate this one...Surprised her romance arc did not come with a Disney song or a cutscene about how all men are evil misogynists like it did in Frozen and Maleficent...

The thing that made Isabela memorable was not just her hot body or her sexual attitude. What made her popular is that she is a female version of Captain Jack Sparrow. Both are pirates, both are Chaotic Neutrals, both are out for themselves, both are talented with bladed weapons, both are deep down nice, both like getting drunk and both are promiscuous.

Isabella's popular because she'll bang anything and she looks like she was taken from the shooting of a porno just before the clothes went off.

Not necessarily.

I liked her because she was hilarious, had a golden sense of humour.. was a predominantly selfish ****** with slight signs of compassion.. the boobs, the sex appeal and what not, were second to that.

Why can't we have a romance option like Isabella for straight male gamers? The gay male gamers got Dorian.

In Dragon Age 2, if you play a MALE HAWKE and wish to romance Isabella, you can. Isabella is extremely attractive.  To gay men, Dorian is extremely attractive.

So the question is why don't straight male gamers get an attractive romance option like Isabella in Inquisition?

Why do you want Isabella like character available only for male PC? I certainly would like her to be bisexual as she was. It's my favorite character in all DA (Lelliana is close second)

I really like your personal reasons for liking Isabella, but in the larger scheme of things they are irrelevant.

Just look at the OP. Only reason he wants an Isabella is because she's extremely attractive, and he thinks that Dorian is extremely attractive to guys.

No talk about personality, humour, whatever. Just the looks. And that's what matters to most people.

Or are we suddenly going to act that the world isn't shallow as *bleep*?

Yeah.. you're right about the OP.

But what can I say other than... small things amuse small minds. ;)

And with that, I stop.. unless this thread starts being funny again.

I don't think the game needed an Isabela, but maybe one "secular", worldly type of character who isn't too involved with the Inquisition would have been cool. Before release, I thought it was gonna be Sera.. but that turned out differently for guys.

Mind you, I'm a huge fan of Cass.. but just thinking it'd be cool in general.

Exactly.  I think Isabela is an awesome character and I support people who romanced her because of her awesome personality (and, frankly, don't care if people romanced her because she's hot, too).  But it's clear that the OP only wants another Isabela-type because of how she looks.  I've said it before and I'll say it again.  If the only things that were changed about Cassandra were the length of her hair and the sexiness of her armor, we'd never have this endless stream of "Why is Bioware discriminating against straight guys" threads.  If her hair and clothes looked like Isabela or Miranda, but her face and personality were exactly the same, people wouldn't be complaining about her.

Dude... you must have a very sad life if all you have to do in a forum is whining about women and then spamming the forum and then tweeting the devs.

A very sad person.

I'd probably let him batten down one or two of my hatches.

I'd let him have the sex with me.
