Agreed with the above couple of posts !

What I liked about the different armors in ME2 (for shep) was not only the different visual feel to the different pieces but the fact that I feel they captured the functionnality of each piece pretty well in their look.

That said, I liked the "soft armor" approach of ME1 a little bit more than ME2 (and most armours looked very similar). Most importantly though I liked the customization of gear for the different characters a lot more than in ME2. I get it that they were trying to make a visual reference to the personalities of each character, but it made for some pretty hilarious situations sometimes. E.g : shep and garrus in full mask and plate in the collector ship while miranda wears her protective vacuum facemask, hehe.

It's true that ME2 had a more Civilian feel while ME1 was more militaristic, but some ME1 armours seemed very suited for civilians looking for extra protection !

I would describe MEs 1 and 3 as military games and ME 2 as a merc game.  That said I wasn't too fond of Jack wearing nothing but skivies from the waste up in full combat situations.  Give the girl some real armor.  On the other hand some of the more unique armors in ME 2 were pretty badass.  You can't tell me that Zaeed's unique armor wasn't kickass.  Never a fan of breather masks either.  Everyone should have full helmets in hazardous environments.

I like a mix of ME1 and ME3.

Parts of ME2 were okay, and I love the game (and at least like it more than ME1), but the art style so often didn't jive with me.

ME3 may look like a more contemporary scifi, but it did it in an often pleasurable mixture with what was carried over from ME1-ME2.

I am also worried that ME4 will look like Mass Effect: Halo. That may be where I draw my line, and feel Bioware has lost the plot.

Geth ships and weaponry remind me of covenant ships and weaponry.  Especially the weaponry seeing as both are plasma based.

There's a lot of Halo feel in Mass Effect. However, it is all or almost all indirect. Once it gets feeling more direct, I may be outta here. But I have hope that it won't be that bad...

(I don't hate Halo, but I don't want Halo here)

Halo is more of a militaristic type of sci-fi. Mass Effect is a more broad. It encompasses more facets and styles of the genre.

I do prefer that ME has it's own identity.  I have nothing against Halo but ME is more interesting.

Part of that is that they are also two different video game genres.  Being an FPS Halo is strictly combat, combat, and more combat.  Sure it will sometimes mix things up with vehicle combat thrown in but it is always combat.  Being a an RPG/TPS hybrid Mass Effect's combat is only one facet of the game.  I feel like Mass Effect invests the player more into the universe and they actually experience the universe.  Most of my favorite parts of the ME games take place outside of combat.

indeed. My favorite parts of the series are specific individual conversations.

Actually there's a lot more lore in the Halo series than the Mass Effect series, Halopeida has over 9100 articles.

Pretty sure what you're talking about is the lighting.  Having recessed lighting like you had in ME1 can put you in a weird place.  Plus, it was as dark as the original Omega.  Add those two together?  There's nothing else like it in the world.  It just puts you in a place where you feel like nothing is as should be.

I'd love to see some recessed lighting return, especially with the mastery that some of those developers did.

EDIT :  That's like the person who said that The Legend Of Zelda series covered three time lines and has much more lore than ME ever could.  I've never played Zelda, so I couldn't argue with him/her.  But, I just wanted to shake him/her and say, "YOU JUST DO NOT UNDERSTAND!"

Regardless, the ME games let you actually experience life in the ME universe.  You actually interact with the universe in a more meaningful.  In the Halo games you just shoot stuff, sometimes drive stuff but mostly shoot stuff.   So as far as the actual games go the ME games actually reflect their universe in a much more meaningful way.

I agree. Mass Effect certainly lets you experience it's universe in a more interactive way. Tends to stick with you more because that's what the game is about. Where as in Halo it's like you said: it's about shooting stuff.

Halo does have a crazy amount of lore, but the games only scratch the surface of it. For example, MS released a trilogy of books leading up to the beginning of Halo 4(the Forerunner novels, and somehow they're more epic than even the Reapers and their whole story is), and if one hasn't read them, the games plot will be lost on them due to extreme lack of context. Not the best approach for telling a games story.

I would say both series have a large amount of untapped potential.

They sure do. I would love to see a Halo rpg. I'd love to see a Mass Effect rts. Just not included in the core lineup of games in each series.

I mean...   WoW has a crazy amount of lore.  The trouble is, I don't really give a **** about sitting through something akin to history class for a world that never even ****** existed.  Nor do I have any say on how it will go.

Call it me, but anybody can write lore.  ANYBODY.  And he hath spoken, ye unto has forsooth ...   Oh, who gives a ****?

This armor looks like a lot of stuff was just thrown on. Having a space suit with tons of belts and pouches doesn't necessarily make it look futuristic, or even practical.

I certainly prefer the retro scifi vision of ME1. It was one thing that attracted me to ME universe in the first place and made it unique. Unfortunately they lost it as the series went on.

Of the things they have shown about next game I have liked pretty much everything except the armor look. It is too bland generic third person shooter with just loads of stuff piled up. I appreciate they are going for customization but hopefully the designs were only early drafts.

Yeah. Especially combat-wise that belt looks highly impractical.

Also wtf is that flappy thing over his armour? Scarf? Collar? Why isn't it used!

Truth be told I actually found the Halo RTS: Halo Wars to be more enjoyable than Halo 3, Halo: Reach, and Halo 4.

My main issue with the Halo series overall, is it's constant overuse of the humans are special trope; even moreso than Mass Effect did. Humanity is the only ones capable of activating forerunner technology, humans are the only ones capable of defeating the Flood, humans are the only ones worthy of inheriting the Mantle.... because reasons.

Halo 2 actually introduced the Arbiter and brought in the Covenant's side of things, but that was quickly discarded in subsequent titles, because games about humanity and how awesome we are is the only story worth telling.  <_<

Sci-fi in general gets guilty of being human-centric (probably to stroke the ego of the fanbase).  Even in Star Trek the borg wanted to assimilate the humans, the Q were frightened of our potential, and Earth was pretty much the captial of a major interstellar federation.  In fact ME seems to have also mirrored ST in this regard at the end of ME 3 the citadel is in orbit around earth and the EC implies that it stays put around earth.  I actually liked how in ME 1 we were still considered newcomer scrubs.  I hope in ME 4 the story is less human centric and that the citadel gets moved back to the serpent nebula
