Is there a point of no return in this game, where once you cross it, the open world sections will be cut off and you will be forced to finish the game??

I am about to start the quest "What pride had wrought" but I still have not touched "Emprise du Lion", the "Exalted Plains", most of the "Forbidden Oasis" and some random stuff left on the other maps (mostly collections).

I know I will not have time this year to replay this game so I want to try and do 100% play-through, even did some fiddling with the romances.

(Dated Blackwall, but resigned just prior to the bedroom scene, did Iron Bull for some time and now going for Sera... but approval rating probably won't be enough)

No. The "Point of no return" is in regards to the story and companion interaction. World exploration remains exactly the same.

Me, I did all the companion quests before Doom Upon All the World, and only THEN I touched the Hissing Wastes.

It is very clear on the War Table mission when you can't go back. You pretty much just have to complete either "Before the Dawn" or "Under Her Skin" (based on if you sided with the mages or templars, respectively).

"Doom Upon All the World" will be the final mission

Not really as you can continue playing after the main story is done, though some quests and table missions will be lost( story related). So you are prompted to finish whatever you deem important before doing the final story quest.

Saying that though, I would personally do those areas before you do 'What pride has wrought'.

Spoiler

That is what I thought, as it seemed like we were already planing an endgame siege at the war table...

I just require some story elements to break the cycle of open world quest marker checking...

It simply gets boring after 4 - 6 hours without story or companions...

But as there are a lot of character missions in the Emprise du Lion and Exalted Plains regions, I think I can wrestle myself to at least finish those regions before doing another main story quest.

Thanks y'all.

By the way wiccame... I like your Inquisitor in your avatar pic... seems unique and beautiful... I get the feeling a lot of human female inquisitors with that hair but brunet tend to look VERY similar to each other (mine too), not yours though...

Just rush companion quests in those areas. Then finish the story. Then do the rest.

It'll work that way.

My suggestion? Do as much as you can stand to do before you get tired of it. I get game weary after I go through whatever romance I've chosen, but once I've done the final battle, there doesn't seem to be much reason to do other quests after the game, so my recommendation would be to finish as much of it as you can first before going to the final battle.

I think because there is no well-developed, individual quest line tied to each area, going on to do "mop up" just seems dull. After all, IRL, you could send your minions to do that with the exception of any rifts that need closing. But the rifts are kinda like the Oblivion gates, after so many you just want to ignore them.

Until you actually being the final quest, there is no 'point of no return'. Anything significant - quests ended, companions busy, NPCs moved, w/e - are done after your Epilogue slides, in the New Game+. A save before the final quest (Doom Upon All the World) is sufficient.

Thank you :)  A reason I went lighter with her and changed her face shape from what I normally go as they all tend to look too similar. I have to use this hair too often because their eyes never seem to align very well and this style is the only one that distracts from that slightly lol

Don't forget that you won't be able to craft after the final battle. And of course some of your companions will be gone.

Is it gone from the captured keeps as well? Not just the Undercroft?

Well if you don't complete any companion quest prior to the ending, they'll be locked out.
