If they add a DLC companion I hope for a Qunari Female, romanceable only by Qunari. With new hairstyles included.

We're not getting a DLC companion like Shale and Sebastian - that was confirmed back in 2014.

However, we might get a temporary companion like Tallis for future DLC. I base this on the fact that it is very easy to end up with no mage party member post-game.  An unspoiled player has no reason to think that failing to recruit Dorian and Vivienne (or recruiting Viv and making her Divine) is going to completely screw over their party balance in any future post-game content.

I don't think any other character will be a romance option, though, because there are eight of those already.

Just for some general info...

The devs specifically did not put in the coding structure for implementing characters in game after release. Too many people read the inclusion of that coding (when used for Mass Effect) (if this is the right word for it) as Bioware explicitly planning to create content, hold it back, and then release it for money. So rather than argue with that bundle of hornets, Bioware opted to just not include it at all this time around. And thus, no extra permanent characters are to be added after a game's release.

so instead of gutting content for future dlc (they shouldn't be doing that in the first place), they aren't going to bother doing character dlc at all???

That's pretty god damn childish of them. Doesn't surprise me at all at this point.

The resources put into future companions were instead used on current companions.

There was the whole furoe over shale and then Javik in ME3.

that makes no sense to me. If you're using resources to make effing dlc that comes AFTER the game is released then how does what you just said even make sense?

Think about it for a second, then get back to me.

They either are making dlc, or are not. There isn't a proper excuse as to why they wouldn't unless they simply do not have time/resources to do it. You would only make dlc after everything else is finished in a game, so what you said just made no sense to me.

I am re-quoting (without remembering the source) what the developer said when they announced that there would be no companion day one DLC.

Well then I'm not surprised because they're greedy scumbags over there who like to cut content out of the main games instead of actually working on proper dlc AFTER everything else is done.

You know, I thought you were making a good point, and then you went and called them greedy scumbags.

No, it's the fans being childish that brought us to this place. Your misreading of Winged Silver's point illustrates the problem

If anything, it highlighted the exact reason given by Mike Darrah about why they aren't including DLC companions this time.

Also just seems to lead them into trouble, no matter what they do.

"Bioware, we want companion dlc!"

Then other people roar "Bioware, you're being greedy, all story/plot/character dlc should be free"

And we cycle through this forever.

Shelled, dude, it's people screaming greedy that is the reason they aren't doing it. To make characters interactive with other characters some of it HAS to be done in advance, and then they can fill in the details. They weren't cutting it out, it was completed in the months after it went gold and yes, some resources were on the disk. It shouldn't my suprise you that voice actor interaction requires them to record together.

People lost their minds, insulted them, threatened them... Not a surprise that they aren't doing it again.

This is why we can't have nice things. And here you are, yet again saying they're greedy... Well, to avoid that, we don't get new companions. I understand why they wouldn't, even though the decision bums me out.

So keep screaming greedy as loud as you can. That'll help.

And yes, EA is the reason for microtransactions. And shale was made for origins, it was the EXACT team behind it trying to add the character, and it was a great character. It just wasn't complete.

There is a comment that Shale makes when you first meet her when she talks about her former master using a chisel to make her smaller to fit through the house.  That comment was actually a little joke by the developers.  That was the reason she wasn't available right away; they had trouble making her model small enough to fit under doorways.  :P

Just figured I should point out that I don't really have a dog in this fight. I pretty much never buy DLC, but I don't miss any of the paid DLC companions either, so I don't care whether DLC companions exist or not.

Same.  I liked Shale and I liked Javik.  Sebastian I could have left unpurchased, but oh well.  They were great, but I'm pretty neutral about DLC companions in general.   :)

Right. IIRC there's some cut dialogue with Bella indicating that Shale was supposed to be in Redcliffe originally. Also, Bella's apparently a fairly naughty girl.

I wonder if Bioware's "No DLC companion" also applies to DLC specific companions like Tallis/Liara/Ariana/Finn?

I've been wondering that too, but I doubt it.  They wouldn't have to place any of those character files into the base game, since it's considered it's own content.  I hope it isn't off the table, because someone like Oghren, Sigrun or heck, even Finn again would be welcome as a temporary party member.

So long as I have a chance to unequip some of their stuff before the final boss of that DLC.  I hate it when games pull a "so long and thanks for all the gear" with little to no warning.
