I've played DAO and DAI and have noticed that there are always only Human, Dwarven, and elven grey wardens. I know the Qunari follow strict guidelines and the Qun probably forbids them but what about renegade Tal-Vashoth?

There was a mention somewhere of rumors about Tal-Vashoth taking the Joining, but it never confirmed whether or not any succeeded. I'm pretty sure that was in a codex in Origins, so that could have changed since then.

Apart from their rarity, I'm sure there's no reason there cannot be.

Rarity because it would only be a Tal Vasoth Grey Warden and Tal Vasoth are usually mindless killers, so finding one sane enough to take the joining and then survive it....I'm guessing they make up less than 1 percent of the Wardens.

I'm kind of hoping that if they ever let us be part of this Grey Warden civil war that they are setting up, we will be able to play as a Tal-Vashoth Warden.  Could be very cool, in my opinion.

*cough*

According to the Qun.

Taking their word about Tal-Vashoth for truth is like taking Hitler's word on Jews for truth.

I find it funny that most Warden's we've seen have been humans

Well yes, but the ones we saw in DA2 were all bat-**** crazy.

On the flipside in DAI we can of course play as a Tal Vasoth mage at that, born to Tal Vasoth parents so...I'm sure there are good ones out there.

I'm sure if a qunari wanted to be a grey warden, he/she would not be turned away

It was kind of odd there's no Qunari NPCs anywhere.

I thought that with them being a playable race we'd also have a few Qunari merchants, minor questgivers and other minor characters (I especially thought there was going to be a female qunari character somewhere). I think Iron bull is the only qunari in the whole game (and the qunari that appears near Cullen's tower sometimes).

Followers of the Qun do not join the Grey Wardens, Tal-Vasoth can join.

I suspect that after Sten's involvement in the blight that the Qunari might see the benefit and necessity of Gray Wardens.

Perhaps, but there is some evidence to suggest Qunari can regress into rage quite easily without the Qun. Sten himself lost the plot and butchered a bunch of innocent people when he lost his calm.

Yet still people like the Inquisitor' fathers and the Inquisitor him/herself still exists...

People don't need to be Qunari to lose their s*** when they're fish out of the water. Look at the templars. Or even better, at the mages in DA:I.

Maybe there's somethign I dont remember but the Tal Vasoth in DA2 were basically mercs and bandits.  DA2 production probably ran out of time before they could add some NPC Tal Vasoth that you can talk to.  Regardless, they were nowhere near as mindless as the apostate mage "enemies" that we were forced to slaughter in the Hinterlands.

Besides a select few i doubt there are really any Tal-Vashoth. (or just Vashoth) anywhere in southern thedas. Orlais and Ferelden are half a Continent away from any Qunari that could Abandon the Qun (I.E Free Marches, Rivain, and Seharon.) most people in southern thedas probably go their whole lives without seeing anyone of the Qunari race.

so unless a Vashoth has a real purpose to be in Orlais, {like the PC mercenary company which actually is from the free marches) I doubt one would choose to travel all that way to be treated like an outcast.

A few Tal-Vashoth have undergone the Joining, but none of them have succeeded.

However, by Warden custom, recruits who fail the Joining are still given a rank and their names are recorded within the Warden's Records, for even the sacrifices of those who tried to enter the Grey Wardens proper are to be remembered.

So yes, there have been Qunari 'wardens'. They're just all outranked by the Mabari Wardens who passed the Joining.

I find it funny that most Warden's we've seen have been humans

- Considering the low birth rates of the dwarves, their battles underground with the darkspawn, and the mortality rate of the Joining, it's understandable why there are not a lot of dwarf wardens.

- Elves are the second highest recruits in the Wardens, I would believe, due to their relatively high numbers. though I have a feeling there are more city elves who join than Dalish elves.

- I covered Qunari recruits above.

So, given the high density of Humans in Orlais, Fereldan, the Anderfels, Free Marches, Tevinter, Antiva, Revanni...I think it's safe to say there's a reason the majority of Wardens we've seen are human.

...Though I think we all want to see Oghren come back. :P

There were plenty of Vasosh (though IIRC that term wasn't used yet) in DAO that didn't seem totally mindless.  They simply attacked you like any other hostile NPC did if you came within their range.  Bodyguards for the Carta being the prime example I can think of.  There was also the merchant in DAA, the one that wouldn't fight you in DA2, etc.  I really don't buy the whole raging homicidal maniacs line that the Qun spouts.

I'd like to see more of them just to avoid the PC being some special snowflake. The background for the PC is usually that they are born to a qunari family living outside of the Qun. Surely this family is not the ONLY one. There has been time enough for many generations of qunari that left the qun and their descendants to spread across other countries. It's not like the qunari appeared yesterday. They should be rare, but not 0. There were quite a few qunari mercenaries even in DAO.

Sten's reason for being in Ferelden in DA:O was being sent by the Arishok to understand what "The Blight" was.

IMO, that meant there was no Blight in Qunari lands - they were hearing rumors of something, and wanted facts.

Again IMO, that would mean no Qunari had been recruited into the Grey Wardens.  (Tal-Vashoth would be another matter)

Supporting my assumptions ... when Iron Bull says the Ben Hassarath aren't too pleased with the fact that Ogre's "look like" mutated Qunari.

Not that they ARE tainted Qunari.

So it sounds like the Ben Hassarath doesn't (yet) understand how the blight changes species.

Which means it's unlikely the blight is in Qunari lands - so, again, chances of Qunari Grey Wardens is pretty much nil.

Also, if the Blight WAS in Qunari lands ... I don't see them joining a foreign organization to fight it ... since that would involve placing the Qun second.

More than likely, they would have their own "special forces" similar to the Grey Wardens.

DA:O isn't that strong of evidence on the Qunari since the Qunari hadn't been flushed out yet. all had no horns (which is an incredibly rare attribute) and they are all depicted as mercenaries except for one trader in DA:A. so to me that seems more like they were just trying to have more enemies to have us fight and lore be dammed.

And i didn't say our character is the only Vashoth just that is unlikely there are that many in orlais. and the likelihood of running into one is incredibly small.

Personally I can't think of one place in DA:I where it would actually make since to meet one. maybe with fairbanks but that's still a stretch since i don't know how welcoming a bunch of peasants would be to a regular Qunari. and one would most definitely not be trading in the part of Val Royeaux that we could shop in.

Its been 4 centuries since Qunari landed in rivain. and all of the ones that left then would have been soldiers going awol like the Tal-Vashoth in Seheron and Kirkwall. the Qunari aren't having a mass exodus of people. they are having a few people escaping every now and again in thedas. and more to the point. where do you think they are coming from? Rivian is barely a colony with only one Qunari City, Seheron is across the a Sea and the Qunari hunt the Vashoth down like dogs there. and in kirkwall which has only seen Qunari in the last ten years were constantly killed by Hawke and Company.

so that leaves only one Rivaini City (which is described as well fortified.) and the occasional Ben hassrath who looses his way. so the amount of Qunari on mainland thedas would already be very minimal so that would mean there would be even a smaller number of Vashoth who would travel all the way down from the north eastern tip of thedas to the utmost south western nation. yes there would be some in Orlais. but a very very very small number of them with even a smaller chance of us running into them since they would most likely only be in a bazaar or slums.

I'm not trying to argue, all i'm attempting to point out its not really that odd to not run into a Vashoth NPC Orlais.

Wait I just remembered the theory that the Qunari have dragon blood. And isn't said blood resistant against the taint? So maybe Qunari can't become grey wardens.

There's no reason they can't be, but they'd have to be Tal'Vashoth or Ben Hassrath.

In fact, given the fact that most Warden Camps/Strongholds/etc., are incredibly cult-like/secretive, it would make total sense for a Ben Hassrath to act as a spy by implanting himself in the Order.

*cough*

According to the Qun.

Taking their word about Tal-Vashoth for truth is like taking Hitler's word on Jews for truth.

The Qun is horrible/fascist, so the Arishock or any other member of the Qunari insulting the Tal-Vashoth means nothing.

Dragons can still be tainted, it's just harder. Remember the dragon thralls in Origins and Awakenings?

Resistant would merely make it harder, not impossible.

If dragon blood couldn't be tainted at all ... the "old gods" (High Dragons) wouldn't turn to Archdemons ... and there wouldn't be Ogres.
