When I was a child I had two favorite TV shows the X-Men animated series and Power Rangers. I eventually came to the realization that high school kids weaponized to fight an intergalactic threat would turn those kids into some seriously disturbed adults.
Huh... okay.

Huh... okay.
He's got a point. Exposing some fifteen year olds to near-constant violence and combat, forcing them to live a double life that keeps everything secret from anyone they may have as family or friends, giving them super human power which they could use to crush a person's face at will...
...I can see how that would be traumatizing.

I'm not sure a Power Rangers deconstruction really needed to happen.
Or this one anyway.
Meh.

Never cared for the Power Rangers, but with that 14 minutes I'd be interested in a movie with the same kind of concept... but, Sir Vanderbeek suriviving. ![]()

That's true of a lot of superhero origin stories though. Bruce Wayne saw his parents get gunned down. Peter Parker got bit by a radioactive spider and starts shooting webbing from his wrists - isn't puberty hard enough already? Does anyone else remember the Marlo Thomas & Friends sketch where adolescent Clark Kent finds out he's adopted?
Love the video. James Van der Beek just keeps getting better. I thought it was a fun "tribute" to the Power Rangers.
And I didn't know Orlando Bloom threw a punch at the Biebs. Man, I'm learning all kinds of stuff today!

I don't know... it's one thing to have something HAPPEN to a teenager and have them embrace it as part of their duty to fight crime or whatever. But in MMPW, they specifically CHOSE teenagers to give super powers, secret identities and giant weaponized vehicles. Even outside the initial episode, whenever they had to "fill the gaps," they always chose kids, usually YOUNGER kids (Vanderbeek's character, Rocky, first became a ranger at 12).That's true of a lot of superhero origin stories though. I mean, they could just as easily found some 18-25 year olds, but Zordon specifically asks for "five teenagers with attitude." That's kind of messed up if you think about it.

Dude you know it must have been tougth. as kids they all looked 30.
Any way this reminds me of an RP i had a few years back set in a world where the Rangers failed. and a new crew of Post apocolyptic kids took over.

That's a valid point. I guess this brilliant film is just its logical conclusion when you look at it that way.

Yeah, when you get down to it, the concept behind Power Rangers is kinda child soldier-y.
With the exception of Lightspeed Rescue, because they were adults, and run by the government.
And SPD and Time Force, since they were cops.
A few other exceptions too (Ninja Storm technically). But those three come to mind.

I don't think 18-25 year olds would adjust to the constant violence as well as teenagers could.

Well, that's the rough average age of most active military members who are deployed, so that's why I used it.
Why do you think teenagers would be better equipped?

Don't forget the original Japanese versions.
Five teenagers with attitude?
More like.
Five dinosaur tribe people from 170 million years ago that have to wake up and fight a witch and Satan.

They should just make it like the Super Hero Taisen movies.
But they should also get Godzilla and Ultraman.
And Japanese Spider-Man.
