Well the best would be the top tier runes. In general, everything is vulnerable to spirit damage, so those would be the best weapon runes. However, they are restricted to staves. Non-elemental runes (cleansing, corrupting, demon-slaying and dragon-slaying) give the biggest damage boost, but are very restricted in the type of foe they damage, so they are not good general purpose runes. However, you face more humanoid enemies than anything, so Corrupting would be the best among those, in my opinion. Fire tends to be an element most mook level enemies are vulnerable to.

 

But to really have the best rune for any situation, you would have to make multiple versions of your weapons and lace them with various rune types to switch to for the enemy you are facing. However, the only enemy I really worry about for preparing specific runes are the dragons. The dragons all have some specific element they use, and are vulnerable to the opposing element. Otherwise I tend to put runes on the gear of my main party and don't worry about the rest. Just use up the runes you find as you go along because you will tend to be changing to new weapons every few hours and you lose the runes when you sell them (no way to remove).

 

I personally use corrupting and fire on my dual wield rogue.

The best way i found to farm pure essences :

 

1 - Go to a high level rift ( Emprise du Leon or Hissing Wastes )

 

2 - Fight and close the rift

 

3 - Take the loot but leave one item

 

4 - Teleport to another map , teleport back , loot again , leave one item , repeat ...

 

Is best to choose a rift near a camp , and dont forget to mark the loot location , high level rifts always drop essences , as long as you leave one item there you can go to another map , come back and loot another essence , you can farm as long as you have the patience for it ...

Almost all of the superb runes require pure essences, except superb rune of dragon-slaying.

Wyvern poison glands are dead easy to get. Weirdly, wyverns are easier to fight than poison spiders, which are used for master dragon-slaying runes - one step down from superb.

So I start by putting superb dragon-slaying runes in everything -> killing off all the dragons -> use pure dragon blood for superb demon-slaying runes -> demons supply most of the other essences.

I make a couple spare daggers when I get enough pure red lyrium for superb corrupting runes, since most enemies (especially enemies I want to farm for crafting materials) are living. Makes hunting slightly faster.

Daggers are a good option for runes because they have a fast attack speed, so you get more bang for your rune buck. Especially if you give them to Sera and have her use lightning flask.

Superb dragon are useless. They're limited to the 11/12 dragons of the game and little else, and dragons generally are already vulnerable to other kinds of damage, like fire or ice (depending of the dragon).

 

BTW, a question I've always wondered about....are the DPS damage bonuses of dragon/demon/cleansing/corrupting runes limited to the foe the rune was designed for, or it's an universal DPS increase? I guess that with elemental runes, it is indeed universal....

Superb dragon runes do have limited uses, but they're an easy rune to get materials for. No rift farming or anything - wyverns respawn and are easy to kill.

They're a good rune to work toward first, because you'll never be in a situation where you replace a superb dragon-slaying rune and can never make any more. Plus, those dragon mats are useful for making top-tier weapons that you do want to burn good runes on.

Most enemies die in 1-2 hits with or without runes, thus the runes are useless in these situations. For a dragon however, dealing 30-40% more damage makes a big difference.

Yaaay! the best damage for literally a dozen enemies of the gaame! ....

 

The best I can say about them is that they're extremely situational. But being so doesn't make them the best overall, not by far.

which is why i wanna stay away from Corruption and dragon slaying etc kind of runes , i mean guy's right 11/12 dragons vs the whole game ? all i need to kill the dragon is to control vievienne , so which are the best out of the elemental runes?
