Not to muddy the issue, seeing as you have decided on a hoodie now, but in my opinion, something's worth can be very subjective.  Can you afford a 'luxury' item (read: unnecessary)? Will you get a lot of use/enjoyment from it?  If you can afford the necklace, and believe the opinion of the person who says they actually bought one (rather than those that are unhappy with other items they have gotten), you should get what is going to make you happiest.  Fortunately, as with the necklace, you will get a lot of use from the hoodie, and I imagine it will spark conversation, too.

Your one of the few that isn't so negative about the whole Necklace idea. I am able to afford it and I can asure you that I will have alot of enjoyment out of it ;D Might even end up talking like Varric alot however people have said their mind and says it's cheap blah blah blah I can make it myself. So I'll just go by what they say about the whole idea v.v
