Because animating four slightly different heights for four different races takes a lot of resources that sometimes are just not there. Trust, the animators for fluctuating height scenes like that are just as aware of the discrepancies as we are, and it probably bothers them a lot more than it bothers us that it couldn't be done just right.
As it is, pretend that your qunari is half-sitting on the edge of the side table for that conversation to be more at eye level with him, that your dwarf is standing on her tiptoes and leaning up to kiss him, etc.

There are a lot of uneven floors and such at Skyhold...that and after all that has transpired, Blackwall could use a little boost to his ego. ![]()

The same reason why dwarves will float up to Blackwall's height sometimes during his romance. Even with my elf there were some weird animations during a few of his scenes. *shrugs*

The weirdest one is in the Dorian romance, when they make a height difference between a human and Dorian. With flycam you can see that sometimes they sink the feet in to the floor, and sometimes they hover a bit above. Super noticeable in one scene that starts out with Dorian a little taller then halfway through cuts to your IQ being taller. I'm guessing they needed one to be the female height, or something.

That first scene between Blackwall and either Adaar or Cadash is pretty rough. Hang in there, it's the only really bad one.

Spoiler
To be fair, ol' Blackwall is only slightly taller than a dwarf.

One of the scenes with a male Qunari and Dorian is just hilarious with how many times the Qunari just shrinks to elf level height.
Alas, that's animation restrictions for you. The characters will either have their legs sink into the floor or they'll levitate. Personally, I think in future they should make romance scenes that don't rely on certain preconceived height relations.

I'm assuming Dwarfquisitor had an allergic reaction to Sera's bees and swole up.

She is so right. Just grit your teeth, get past that scene and the rest is smoother sailing. For what it's worth, I think the Adaar owns the conclusion to Revelations out of all the races. It is impressive to behold.

It's weird how some romances have these animation issues while others in the same game do not.

You didn't see it but Blackwall was standing on a box for that scene.

Oh god this bothered me too so much.
I did the Blackwall for the reverse kisses damnit. And I only got one and it was in the worst place. So disappointed.

Maybe it's Blackwall that's changing size?

I foresee three explanations;
Skyhold is actually an Eldritch location so the sizes and geometry of both itself and it's inhabitants doesn't always appear to stay the same...
One of the side effects of Eluvian travel bestows upon the traveller the phenomenon that objects in a mirror are closer than they appear...
The cold mountain air means that some shrinkage might occur...

Femquisitor greatly disapproves
Doesn't seem to be affecting Iron Bull's performance any... unless it's simply nerfing his destructo-nookie to a far safer degree so the Inquisitor doesn't have to worry about walking funny and buying a new bed the next day?

Even when you're using a human they can't stick to one height, so it's not just you. As someone else mentioned, male Trevelyan will be both taller and shorter than Dorian all within thirty seconds.

Well, see, there's a lot of horse/dracolisk/war nug poop in the stables, and when you're standing there, you might sink into it a little ...
