I really like the way Bastion was narrated.

The Order 1886.

I got chills when the villain told Galahad that "we're not so different you and I."

Was this 30 minutes before the game ended?

You know...

45 minutes in?

I haven't finished Shadow of the Colossus (I just beat the tenth one a few weeks ago) but the game is definitely awesome. The encounters with each Colossus, with each of them presenting a different challenge for you, feels like a story in itself. Some of the most epic battles in gaming.

Zomg! I was just thinking of mentioning this one, it always comes to mind when it comes to storytelling in video games because of how integrated both are, the way you have just a sword, bow, and a horse, and the way you don't actually really know what you are doing until the end and then you just get thrown sideways.

That said Final Fantasy is probably my favorite series when it comes to storytelling... just so many moments.. *spoilers* by the way

FF4 Cecil turning into a Paladin, Palom and Porom's sacrifice, Tellah's Death, Golbez's reveal and true identity.

FF6 The world of Ruin, Kefka's insanity, Shadow's story and ending, Relm and Strago, Sabin and Edgar, Setzer and Celes, Celes and Locke and the opera sequence, Cyan and the tragedy of Doma, the phantom train,

FF7 Aeris's death, Red XIII's story with his father, Cloud and Tifa/Aeris's date at the Golden Saucer, Cid and his dream of going into space,

FF9 Vivi and the plight of the Black Mages, Garnet and the plight of Alexandria, Freya and Burmecia (it was such a creepy atmosphere), Garland and Terra, etc, etc, etc.

FF12 Gabranth and Noah (like whoa), Ashe and Balthier, Balthier and Fran.. etc... etc....

I don't really feel the same about it these days as much but I still feel connected to all those earlier ones a lot.

The Dark Souls series.

Hear me out, the games have a very minimalist plot (go somewhere and kindle the first flame/cure your undeadness) but it gives clues of who, what, when, why, and how everywhere. These little clues allow the fanbase to argue and debate and hopefully reach a consensus concerning the plot, background, characters, factions, theme ect, which gives this feeling of unraveling a mystery.

You could argue this is just laziness on the developers' part, but I think the developers achieved a great thing with the minimalist plot.
