Okay, so Julia asked.

There's no fence, just airlock doors that are build into the side of the building.  Imagine something futuristic, but industrial looking.  These structures weren't meant to withstand gunfire on purpose, but typically do because they are meant to survive mining accidents like falling rocks, gigantic vehicles crashing into them.  They aren't indestructible, but they can take a lot.  You aren't shooting through them with small arms fire on the first go, though.  It would take sustained, regular small arms fire, and even more than one shot from heavy guns, to knock through.

That means those doors have to have their codes or be hacked.  Fortunately, you don't expect security her to be bank vault level or anything like that.

I spent all day trying to get windows 10 to work right. Now I finally got it good enough to rp again.

Life it good. :P Except for this terrifying smoke fog that's getting larger where I live. I hope things aren't too bad on your side SJ.

I haven't upgraded to Windows 10 yet. I'm dreading it. I'll stay with Win 7 until I absolutely have to upgrade. I think that will be in 2020.

It's cooler over here. We had a shower this morning.

I was like: I miss windows 7.

Then I was like: Hey, Windows 8, you're alright, man.

Now I'm like: Windows 8, I'm sorry, I made a mistake! Come back to meeeeeee!

I went from windows 7 directly to windows 10 and even though the new system is 'okay', I really miss 7. The design was much better imo and windows 10 has no significant features that windows 7 didn't have.

The thing is a friend of mine did the upgrade and half the stuff on her computer stopped working. Like Windows Media player playing DVDs. And besides I have audio mixing programs on one of my PCs and the upgrade is NOT going to be "free". An upgrade could end up costing in the neighborhood of $3000 in software upgrades. That PC will far outlast the end of Windows 7 support because I don't use it that often and all I need to do is unplug the ethernet cable. I'll get a cheap Windows 11 PC from Costco to use on the internet.

With the new boards colliding into each other, this is going to get tough.  I can reference the characters thread and the index at the top of this post.  I have no control over Chasing Spectres very important character threads and indexes which are going to get shoved down to the bottom of the pages.

One answer maybe links in our signatures for what we want.  But we should try to come up with some answers here so we don't lose stuff and it can be easily referenced.  Also if a thread doesn't get referenced for a while and that thread gets nuked because a mod thinks it is necroed, it will be past tense when we find out about it.  So back up stuff, mkay? That's my recommendation.

No, but since we no longer have our own awesome private sandbox, I can see some things becoming lost if we don't personally take care of them.  I don't like that the changes were done without warning, but this is BSN and their website is subject to corporate demands.

It's really valuable work, all of it, and the references too.  So I just think we should plan accordingly.  Ultimately, one day as a responsible adult, I wouldn't mind going off site.  There are problems with that, though, one of which is that we would probably NEVER pick up anyone new to our stories. It'd have the feel of an exclusive club then.  Then someone would have to run it, boo. :)

I'd like to think the fanfiction stories add something to BSN, at least in my mind they do.  People would read Battle of London when it was on a combined board, even if they never participated in it.  And I know people jump on and jump right off of the story, but I do think it still adds to making this site a social network by having fiction up, and not reducing this board to, well, you know, a less interesting game company website.

Bioware what the **** have you done!?

Fanfiction.net has a slew of players who can stumble upon rp forums randomly. If we needed an alternative, there's that. Then there's a proboards or freeboards site if we needed it.

This is unacceptable though.

I had a good number of pages saved... I got to about page 30 before my old hard drive took a dump.  I'm going to get to work on preservin' these fine works again tonight, because the thought of all that writing disappearing is hella scary.  I almost had a heart attack when I couldn't reply to CS lol.  Must have moved it while I was work posting.

I RP'd on Fanfiction.net once, over at Aria's. It was... okay, I guess.  It started strong, but totally crapped out despite our best efforts.

That place never had that... homey feeling that I got from our little subforum. Maybe it's because I started here. Maybe it's because the post editor is loads better. Maybe it's because I love you guys. Who knows.  Sucks our  area got all scrambled, and what not.

Annnyways, one of my first thoughts was taking this elsewhere as well. But not just some other weenie RP site, where the mods are kinda weenies, and they suck eggs.

Ya'll go, and I'll follow.  As long as we stick together It's alllll goooood, man.

They took away off-topic...they took away the goddamn off-topic forum.

**** this place!

I'm making a fanfiction.net forum. I will be linking it here, and I will be doing my damn best to get the threads archieved and linked into it.

My handle is Darth Bronitarian. You are all invited to this forum. But all I know is this is 1 step too far, and I am not standing for it.

Bioware is f*cking everyone. They apparently only have a 4GB plan with their ISP and want less traffic and support for their sh*tty games. Their last title that got the bad ass seal of approval was ME2. That's 2010.

Here's the thing, though.  Let's come up with some answers because while I don't like it one bit, it is BSN, owned by the company.  They can, and have, always done as they want.  The boards are at the mercy of those who run them.  I've seen great mods and I've seen...um...I won't say, you know what.  Point is, we're not the mods and we're not BioWare but we LOVE our Mass Effect fiction.  So let's take some action to make sure our work is around, and I certainly don't mind that our work promotes the MEU in some way.

Oh I don't blame you for that. Fanfiction is far from ideal. But it's easily accessible. And we can at least use it as a common point to coordinate what to do.

Anyone here ever use proboards? I've been in a few but I want to know if you guys have experience on them either?

Ha. We're all mad.

I think it would be cool to have our own site, where we were all kings with gigantic banhammers.  We'd never use them, but like, we could be all "Hey, you betta back it up! Back it up!" And brandish our big 'ol mallets for some user whack-a-mole action, but like, be really bad at it and not score any points, because no one likes nazis.

What's it like running a site? Hell if I know! But I'm up for a challenge. Just sayin', ya'll.

I'm not sayin' I'm willing to throw some money down...

But I'm like those men who come around in that Cher song.

Or, OR, we could just create one massive PM /sob story and beg for just a tiny, tiny space for our threads lol.  Pffft. Like that would work.

I forgot there were groups on this site.

I'm making a group. Mass Effect Afterlife. We can try it out, keep to the sites layout and stuff, while also not risking our crap just up and vanishing into the ether of other content.

As long as we move to a forum that doesn't have a word filter, I would be fine with that...But I hope you don't expect me to come up with an idea for this because I have no idea what's going on and what could be done.

I'm just sitting here like 'okay, they took away the off-topic forum and merging everything else, because...because duh? I mean, the point of off-topic is exchange within the mass effect community that goes beyond the ME games, so I guess they don't want there to be an intact community. Because that's what a forum usually is about. But hey, it's a big company we're talking about! So f*ck logic.

I know, I shouldn't be posting this here but I somehow really lost any interest in this forum, except for this RP part.

You should probably make the Characters - Stormhammer characters, and Chasing Spectres characters

We  should migrate copies of our characters over there as soon as possible.
