"They start out that way, Cadi," Darya said. "Then first thing you know.... But you're the boss."

"Hey, if we are going to kill that thing then I'll be the one to do it!", Naomi demanded.
"Guys, it's just a LOKI-Mech!" Chris yawned loudly. "Let's wait what Vihaan's check turns out, we can decide what to do with that mech later. I'm more interested in the simulation." He turned to Arcadia. "Do you already have something specific in mind or are we going to generate a random scenario?"

Arcadia glanced sideways at Kurik, " 'The word' is such a terrible code to use. I recommend something more like 'Commence Operation Tremendous Explosion' so there is no mistake.
"Perhaps I am taking too much pleasure in this at the LOKI's expense," she snickered at Chris' reaction. "He's right, time to get serious. I recommend that we do not use VI teammates, but instead put ourselves in as teams, perhaps small to start...twos or threes. You make the suggestions, though, as to what you think will be most useful and then let's get to it."

"Oh goodie, a team project." Menos said seemingly from no where as he walked behind chris and naomi, having been silent as a ghost and definitely not there a few seconds ago, "I'm guessing we'll be graded cumulatively, right?" He asked as he rolled his emerald eyes, "Cause I usually work alone, just me and good ol chekhov." He said with a grin and a far off gaze.

"You do as you see fit," Arcadia said to Menos. "If you wish to go alone or with one, then that is fine. I only suggest that we go in groups so that we may come to know how we fight at least a little."
They had arrived at the Armax Arsenal Arena. The group entered and Arcadia spoke briefly with one of the turian VI, scanning her ticket several times before entering. She waived everybody onward. "I covered us for a few so save the tickets I gave you for now." She had a bit of a lively step as she entered the public viewing area. There weren't many in attendance during the morning but the few who were there were chatting up a storm about some asari Commandos who had run up the scoreboard.
Arcadia walked to the far end of the public area and back to the group. "Good. We should be able to do what we want without unnecessary attention. These score hogs last night will keep eyes off our backs, not that we have anything to worry about. I just don't prefer to have my matches watched...call it a personal preference. Anybody who is ready, meet me downstairs in the athletes area. I'll be getting my equipment out of my locker."
With that, Cadi left to head to the lower level. When she was there, she headed to her locker, familiar from a few runs at the Arena she'd done in her recent past. She popped the locker open, and began pulling her Arena weapons out: An Avenger and a Carnifex. They were the basic guns she preferred to carry with her into a real fight, but of course did not have the customizations she favored. Arcadia retied the laces on her boots, checked all her belts and fasteners, stored her unnecessary items (but while keeping most of her gear on so she felt as she might during a battle), put the Arena pistol in her holster and the simulator Avenger in her arms. Cadi held the Avenger up, angling it and thinking to herself, Extra stability, scope...no, barrage and ammo, rounds? While she was deciding, she began to stretch, thinking to herself about not wearing her armor to the arena, but waiving it off. She wanted freedom of movement, without her typical protection.

Kurik looked over his rental weapon. It was an M-15, nearly identical to his own, but much cleaner in appearance. His personal Vindicator was quite ugly. 25 years of use and abuse had taken its toll on the weapon's finish.
The previous contender had 'upgraded' the rifle with a 4x scope. Kurik peered through it.
"Hmph."
He detached it, and laid it carefully on the weapons bench.
Kurik preferred iron sights.

"Hm..." Naomi looked at the M-23 Katana and wasn't sure what to think about the weapon. It just was too light for a shotgun. "I don't think I would ever take a weapon like that for a real mission."
Chris had chosen a Mattock without any mods and a Viper with a thermal scope. "I will stick to something I know."
They both had no armor but since this was just a simulation they didn't care much about it.
"Ready to kick some virtual ass?", he asked his sister.
Naomi blinked at him as if she had no idea what he was talking about. "Since when do you have to ask me about this? I'm right behind you!"

Darya looked over the weapons selection and was quite disappointed that her personal M7-Lancer was not among the stock loadouts. It was one you had to unlock with a prize. The inferior M8-Avenger was the upgrade: suppposedly of superior firepower but relied on thermal clips which you could run out of in the field. That was something that never affected the Lancer. Besides hers was fully upgraded with extended barrel, AP mod and counter balanced. Fine! I'll use the Wraith. She did not feel like mixing it up today, but given the weapon selection, she would have to. She fastened her suit of black and red Colossus IX Medium armor with a red star on the shoulders.

The last items Arcadia checked was her omni-tool bracer on her left arm and the HUD glasses she used to feed data for easy reference. She looked around at the others and had to hide being impressed behind her analytical assessment. She wanted to see some action from these peers who seemed so promising. Cadi would cue up if needed but she was hoping someone would take the reigns, and in essence, steal the initiative.

"Sounds good," Darya said, and thumped her wraith. "This doesn't feel like mine, but it'll do."
Darya set the first match against random mercs: slavers as she called them. This would be a pretty basic roll out since they had to score to unlock more difficult opponents. She entered the arena. Arcadia stood beside her, listening while the announcement was made over the PA system. Darya activated her tech armor, loaded a round, and got ready.
She turned to Cadi. "I love this part."
The sim started, and Darya fired an overload into the first spawn of mercs, then charged into them with her shotgun and began firing at point blank. When her shields went down she detonated her tech armor, taking out the group, and then dashed for cover and powered up her tech armor again.

Arcadia's weapon was up the moment the sim started and as Darya charged, the woman with the blue hair made sure her flanks were covered. The Avenger rocked a steady stream of rounds, and with the stabilizer on, Cadi kept the trigger down. She moved laterally, drawing a line of fire between targets, laying down a suppression when no immediate target was available to keep the enemy at bay. Cadi used cover, not quite moving up against it, but being constantly aware of obstacles she could use to shut down her opponents' access to her.
The extra ammunition, and enhanced clip size of her already well stocked gun kept the block shards flying. Shielded or armored mercs in the sim could take some hits from the Avenger, but the constant stream prevented caused enough impact to prevent them from effectively shooting back. Eventually, as Darya shut down the last cluster of three mercs and Arcadia took care of two individuals to the sides, the enemies stopped coming. Cadi ejected the thermal clip from her weapon and replaced it.
Wave one was complete.

"Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope..." Menos said as he looked through the collection of weapons the Arena offered, looking for ones to his taste as his eyes scanned through the catalogs, frowning as he quickly swipped through with at a blinding speed, "Nope. Nope. Eck, nope. Nope. Not even if they paid me. Nope. Nope..." He said as he shock his head, before he finally found something he could use.
"Here we go..." Menos said as he picked his weapon, the M-29 Incisor in its stock blue and without any mods as he held it and pressed it against its shoulders, feeling the weight, "A bit too light. I'll have to compensate that..." He remarked as he slung the weapon onto his back, the weapon compacting like a real gun would as he chose his next weapon, an M-9 Tempest SMG, "Not my first choice, but I guess some guns Armex doesn't have a clue on." He remarked with a grin, a bit flattered to not see the Scropion Pistol he kept from his STG days wasn't on the selection.
He loaded up his omnitool, getting its programs registered as the system ran through replicating his omnitools capabilities and compensating for any of its more destructive powers. He activated his omnibow as the construct was analyzed by the system and made approved by the Arenas VI regulator programs.

"So," Cadi shouted over to Darya as the next wave began. "The VIP, I've talked to him at least initially. He's a concerned father. I didn't get any bad feelings from him. Perhaps he is more upset than most, with this other hire leaving with short notice. But he looked forward to a solution and seemed pleased to have the possibility of someone looking after his daughter." She went to her Carnifex for some precision fire at the simulation mercs coming in at them, and crouched down with one leg extended, ready to move. "Until he can find a more permanent guard. It is a short situation, according to him, and happens because he can't keep his own tabs on her since he must attend an embassy event."

The next wave looked easy. Darya pulled out her Hurricane and switched over to more of an adept style so she could remain near Cadi. She scoffed. "He is not telling you everything. If this is such an easy assignment, why did the other hire leave? What are the stipulations in the contract? Is his daughter an escape artist perhaps and doesn't like to be under constant guard?"
Darya set off a biotic explosion in a group of mercs.

"All good questions...very nice!" Cadi went back to her Avenger as she saw another clustered group. "I'd say all good questions we should ask. All of what you say are things that we'll have to deal with, should they be issues. But I myself am leaning more to this option, the more we discuss it."

The boss wave arrived. Darya switched to her wraith, threw a warp in the middle of a group of heavy mercs and powered up her tech armor. "Cover me." She toward the group firing her shotgun at them while they were bunched up then powered her throw on the glowing blue target. It hit detonating the warp. Knocking down several of the heavy mercs. Knew where the group was and tossed a smoke grenade in the middle of them, ran in and detonated her tech armor, finishing the wave.

Cadi was sighted on one of the last enemies when the smoke went up, Darya ran in, and finished the last group off. She stood up straight from her position with her Avenger pointed upwards, seeing she'd been beaten to the kill. "Good," she confirmed with a single nod. Arcadia ejected her clip out of habit and replaced it, though the simulation was over. "Who's next?"

"Let's go, brother!", Naomi said when Cadi and Darya exited the simulation. There was a somewhat mad glint in her eyes.
"We already know each other long enough! Shouldn't we team up with the others so we can get used to each other?", Chris asked while pointing a thumb over his shoulder at Kurik and Menos.
"Just a quick warm up!", his sister replied and shouldered her shotgun. Then she entered the simulation and Chris followed her with a sigh. There was no point in arguing with her and since they were using the same settings for the simulation as Cadi and Darya it wasn't going to take long anyway.
The twins were standing close to each other and Chris looked with concern at Naomi. While she breath was calm and she had taken a relaxed posture her eyes were widened and Chris could literally feel her excitement for the upcoming fight even though it was just a virtual simulation. "Try to hold back, remember, the others are watching us!", he whispered in her ear.
Naomi turned to him with a smirk and nodded but Chris knew that she wasn't going to calm down. She just needed the adrenaline, the feeling of surviving a dangerous situation and challenging superior foes. There was nothing he could do against it. Except for keeping an eye on her and making sure she was save. Of course nothing serious could happen in the arena but now there were people watching who could get see Naomi as unstable, insane and dangerous and he didn't want that to happen.
When the arena countdown reached zero the first mercs appeared and immediately tried to get into cover. "Here they are!", Naomi said and didn't loose any time to charge at the enemy. She unleashed a biotic nova and knocked down three of the four mercenaries. The forth was shot in the head from Chris' Viper before he could punish Naomi for her risky attack. Before the remaining enemies could get back on their feet they were quickly eliminated by the twins.
They made short work of the waves of mercenaries. Naomi used her biotics to knock the mercs backwards and prevent them from doing anything before she finished them off with the Katana shotgun. Despite her injured arm there was nothing that could stop her, she was constantly laughing and taunting and didn't care that she was fighting nothing more than virtual foes.
In the meantime Chris took out every enemy that tried to take advantage on Naomi's exposed positions. Unlike his sister he didn't waste his breath and stayed in cover. One precision shot after another found its target but he soon realised that the Viper wasn't his favourite weapon. His Valiant he usually used had the same weight but a higher rate of fire and noticably more penetrating power. It was weird that a weapon like the Viper was still in use if there were much better precision rifles like the Valiant.
Naomi and Chris didn't need any communication to be effective and coordinated, they knew exactly what the other one was doing and they always kept an eye on each other.
"That was way too easy!", Naomi remarked with a slight trail of disappointment after finishing the boss wave by lifting the last merc in the air with a well timed shockwave and finishing him off with the shotgun.
Nothing special had happened during the simulation but Chris had a bad feeling. Seeing Naomi like this in a virtual simulation was nothing compared to a real fight, it wasn't uncommon for her to completely loose track of her surroundings and being uncontrollably focused on her enemies. It was dangerous for everyone around. But on the other hand...for now everything seemed to be okay. Cadi and the others probably had just seen Naomi being a bit reckless and having fun during the simulation, they didn't know about her nature and as long as Chris didn't say anything there was nothing to worry about.
"You said it's just a warm up!", Chris replied and tried to relax a bit.
"I didn't expect it to be that short." Naomi grinned, still having the weird glint in her eyes.

"Well that settles it..." Menos said as he nodded his hand, clapping his hands together with a smile on his face as he finally came to a conclusion, "Hawkeye and Black Widow." He said, pointing to each of the siblings with a grin before it dropped, "No wait, that's just dumb." he said as his hands tapped nervously against each other as he looked deep in thought. "Rampage and...Longshot? No. Deadshot and Harley? Not even..." He said as he glanced towards the turian.
"What you think their nickname aught to be, Early Bird?" He asked as he looked towards the turian curiously, a slight grin at dropping of the turians own nickname he'd been given.

"I will be addressing each member of the team by their last name." Kurik checked his weapon one last time. "I will need to know yours before we begin." Kurik chose the same setup as the previous pair.
"Unless, of course, you would prefer to go alone. Either is fine."

"Nah, Big Boss and Nightlight already went their pair. And the wonder twins did a set together as well. Might as well round it off with as a duo, no?" Menos asked as he looked towards the turian and flashed a grin, "Besides, you won't find a better shot to watch your back than Menos Hishau, less you get on my bad side of course. Than you'd be a dead man walking..." He said while he still kept up the smile and joking attitude, though something in his voice and the way he said the words made it clear he wasn't joking around with that last part.
"But you aint gotta worry about that, cause I ain't got any problem with you, Early Bird. 'Sides that, I'm gonna need some back up if I get cornered out there. And you look the type who can help a guy out of that kind of jam." He said, refering to Kurik's turian-ness.
