So i'm replaying to get my perfect saves for when DLC comes out but i'm at Here Lies the Abyss and i need to decide between Hawke and The Warden (Loghain/Stroud/Alistair) and my choice for all three will be one of these wardens or my different Hawkes so who should be sacrificed to the Nightmare?
Who should i save? *Spoilers*

In the context of the current game we have, it honestly doesn't matter which one you save. Now down the road after future games/dlc that might change. But with the info we have now, there's no difference really. I'll put more of an explanation in spoiler for other people who might not have finished yet.

Ok thank you for explaining what happens it just seems to me the only reason to keep Hawke alive is for their LI

But seriously, it really depends on how you feel. There is no right or wrong decision for any combination of Hawke and Warden.
It might be worth the time for you to stop for a moment and think about what would the Inquisitor you're playing do. What would suit their character better.
Some Quizzies may hate the Wardens, others may blame Hawke for starting all of this in the first place... In the end, it depends on you.

Yea, pretty much every time I make that choice by duel of the LI's lol. I'm really happy I don't have a game where the HoF romanced Alistar and is still alive and Hawk romanced Fenris... because I wouldn't be able to make that choice.

My Canon Hawke romanced Fenris and is paired against Loghain who's probably my favorite companion which is probably the hardest choice for me

They are both so annoying it is a shame we didn't get the option to order them both to stay and fight the monster.

Well didn't really strike me as a right/wrong choice here. From talking with Hawke and strictly from a "story" perspective I guess I find it somehow a fitting end for him, giving his life to save the world one last time. I also like how Varric opens up and tells you the story about Hawke afterwards. If you do decide not to banish the Wardens Stroud is a bit more of the "logical" choice I guess, since all that is left afterwards is a bunch of snot nosed warden punks who can't find their keesters in the dark with both hands. Hawke even says this I think, something about how it will be Stroud's job to rebuild the Wardens and that's why he should be the one to stay and distract the big spider thingy.
From a game perspective it really makes no difference that I've seen. I actually like Hawke more on a personal level but then I got to interact with him a bit more than I did Stroud since all I've played is Inquisition.

Ok, now that I think about it considering that all of the rank and file wardens signed off on the whole, "Hey let's participate in a blood magic ritual we got from a Travintor magister so we can become possessed by demons and that will let us stop the blight" grand mastter plan - well since Stroud supposedly trained most of these guys to begin with maybe saving Stroud so he can go on to train more Wardens isn't such a logical choice after all.
Hmm...

Alistair. Always save Alistair! ![]()
More seriously, I would say maybe change it up for different playthroughs? With my first/'canon' run I left Stroud and saved Hawke, partly because I 'knew' Hawke better as a character, partly because at the time I was under the impression that Varric would leave if I didn't, and partly because in-character, Stroud had no family that my IQ was aware of whereas Hawke still has Bethany (and Fenris). But I can see reasons for both; I did take Hawke's point that Stroud (or whoever) is needed to rebuild the Wardens, and that s/he wants to strike a last blow against Cory to make up for his/her 'failure' last time.
Ultimately I don't think there is a 'wrong' choice (or a right one, depending how you look at it.) We don't know what the end result of either choice will be yet, either, so the writers could still pull a fast one and make everyone scream. They enjoy doing that far too much. ![]()

I ended up sacrificing Loghain to save Hawke only because of Fenris and Carver

Cassandra is sad if Hawke dies. Varric is REALLY sad if Hawke dies.
If it's Stroud or Loghain as the Warden, save Hawke. Alistair or Hawke is the only hard choice.

I don't have any saves where Loghain is alive but I am dying to know, what does Loghain say right before attacking the nightmare? And yea that must have been a hard choice for you. Yay for not making Fenris sad though ![]()

Well wardens don't have much of live left anyway (save for perhaps alistair) especially loghain who is pretty old at this point.
I doubt that decision will have any consequences knowing life as with most choices in da it will end on the same like survivor will trip and break his neck.

He says, "Fight well. You will not die while I draw breath. For the Wardens!"

If he did the ritual with Morrigan, he might also say something like 'Tell the witch goodbye for me' (Alistair is more regretful, something like 'Tell Morrigan... tell Morrigan I just stood around looking stupid'). Sort of sad.

Aww, that's not half bad. I wish I could figure out why with him I view him as unforgivable and really hate him. :/

Usually, I'm too attached to my Hawkes to let any of them go, but I did sacrifice one Hawke in favor of Stroud. So far I haven't done any play throughs with Alistair or Loghain as the Grey Warden ally. I'm sure if I ever do a Hawke vs. Alistair though, it's going to be super hard. Sacrificing Loghain won't feel as bad. He's in his 60s by the time of DA:I. He doesn't have long for the world anyway, especially with the taint in his blood. So it makes sense for him to stay behind. Maybe I just really don't like Loghain. I only have one DA:O play through where I spared him.

Maybe I'm misremembering but I thought Wardens (if they don't die fighting) have a longer than normal lifespan. Like over 100 isn't unusual. I don't remember where I got that from though ><

I'm pretty sure you are mistaken. What we are told is that the Taint slowly corrupts them and after Joining they usually have 30 years tops. Admittedly, in medievalish setting it doesn't really sound like something that should cause serious concern, but apparently people in Thedas tend to be rather long-lived since this three-decade limit is apparently seen as a problem. It most definitely doesn't extend anyone's life.Maybe I'm misremembering but I thought Wardens (if they don't die fighting) have a longer than normal lifespan. Like over 100 isn't unusual. Unless you mix blood magic in, but that's hardly the only way to extend your life with blood magic...

I think its the manner in which they have to die, rather than the age at which they die is the problem.

I loved Logains response to the fear monster.
"you slaughtered your king and destroyed your country for NOTHING!"
"well duh, I tell myself that every day"
Hard to see him go but I couldn't give up Hawk

Why would Loghain say something like that? Does he think Morrigan cares? I understood that morrigan doesnt consider him to be a friend or anything like that the same way as with Alistair.
Does Alistair say that line if he romances the HoF? If so then its really weird.
You would think that both Alistair and Loghain have more important people in their lifes that they want to say goodbyes to.
