So it looks like the next Alien film will retcon Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection out of series continuity (as well as Aliens: Colonial Marines which was originally deemed official canon before release.)

Now Resurrection I can live without since they made few poor acting choices and then the story just jumped the shark but Alien 3 is a movie I actually like: that movie had a great sense of isolation and had some great cinematography in the tunnel scenes.  It also was the movie that established that Aliens adopted traits from the host species.

The one things Aliens did was weaken the Alien Monster since the humans had plenty of firepower during the movie and the threat was more from the company man trying to get an Alien for study rather than the Aliens themselves.  But Alien 3 gave it power again as it hunted the prisoners on Fury 171 which gave that unnerving feel of the first movie when the Alien could be around any corner.... waiting.

I'll include this video

If they retcon the piece of dog sh*t that was Alien 3 I'll buy a million tickets and seventy blowjobs for Blomkamp.

Huh

Resurrection was weird and I'm not sorry to see it go.

3 I sorta liked, but I can live without.

I've never even seen any of the movies past Aliens, so this is fine by me.

Oh, how I wish I could be like you.

Alien
Aliens
Alien: Isolation

That is the entirety of the Aliens series that has any value, and those three are awesome enough to make up for the Prometheuses and Colonial Marines in the series.

Resurrection only stands as a curiosity of Joss Whedons early days, and 3 is so bad even the Director doesn't even acknowledge it.

So this is fine by me.

I don't have any particular love of Alien 3 or Alien Resurrection, but this doesn't sound like a great idea; it could easily turn into a Superman Returns situation, where the movie can't really decide if it's a reboot, a sequel or whatever.

Or it could be like Predators.

Because it ignored the 2 AVPs and that movie was fine.

Also the awfulness of Returns wasn't trying to decide if it was sequel or whatever.

There was alot more wrong with it than that.

Predators made an indirect reference to Dutch from Predator, it didn't acknowledge 2.

Nothing really acknowledges 2.

Which is weird.

I think it's good.

This is the way they could resurrect the franchise, but considering history they'll probably screw it up.

How does giving the humans more firepower somehow make the Aliens less of a threat? Especially when the Aliens still end up killing all but 2 people?

And there were only like three confirmed Alien deaths in the movie, and two of them killed Drake and Vasquez in dying (slowed Vasquez down so that she couldn't escape, straight up acid murdered Drake IIRC)

They should call the movie Aliens Plus One and have 3 Xenomorphs in it. The tagline could be "This time plus one is a bad thing."

Aliens have acid blood because the filmmakers were tired of the "bullets can´t hurt it" trope, so they decided the Nostromo crew just couldn´t shoot it instead. I disagree guns weakened the alien, yeah, against one monster they are useful, against several who adapt to tactics very fast (2 tries to realize running against machine guns is a very bad idea, now if only WWWI generals had been that smart), and use any enviroment that isn´t an open plain to their advantage, they don´t even level the field. Playing AvP 2000 marine gave a really good sense of how fragile a human was against the xenos, no matter the firepower.

Alien getting host´s aspect was wallbanging to me, genetic engineering to make that work is on the level of the green ending science.

And please don´t kill off Newt this time around.

The way I look at it is the only way they were threatened by the Aliens for the most part was when the Corporate guy (forgot his name) was trying to screw them over.  If you think about it just about every moment they were in danger was because of the Weyland-Yutani guy sabotaging them in order to get a specimen for weapons R&D (Releasing the Face Hugger in the lab and taking there weapons as well as disabling video - locking them into the room so the Aliens could take them).  Don't get me wrong the second movie was a lot of fun to watch I just preferred the survival/claustrophobic feel of the first and third movie so it's more of a film preference for this series.

But again it just comes down to the movie style and I just felt the more survival horror aspects worked better than the high powered action for the series.

Yes! Earth Hive is awesome. Would love to see some crazy Xeno cults sacrificing people to the Queen and her Huggers.

No one's death in the movie was Burke's fault that I can remember, and if anyone's was it definitely wasn't most of them.

Hudson was killed after Burke locked them in the room when the Aliens were coming and this forced them to use the vents were Vasquez and the Captain were killed and Newt was captured.

Please don't make to be like I hated the second film.  I just like the series better when it was more of a survival/horror film.  Also please don't think I'm directing this against one person I just don't want to be centered out based on my preference in genre for this series.

Ah, you're right, I forgot that Gorman locked that door. I thought you were referring to when he locked Ripley and Newt in with the facehugger. Still, most of the Marines died just for walking into the building.

nro. 3 was a kick in the ass for the other characters. Newt and Hicks got screwed royally. I only consider 1 & 2 actual alien movies. Rest are abhorrent and should not be mentioned. Like Highlander, anything after the first doesn´t exist.

Fully agree about Highlander, everything after the first one was not needed.
