I have mixed feelings about aliens taking over Earth, one side it defeats to a point Ripley's and others struggles, on the other, it's too powerful a plot not to use it.

nro. 3 was a kick in the ass for the other characters. Newt and Hicks got screwed royally. I only consider 1 & 2 actual alien movies. Rest are abhorrent and should not be mentioned. Like Highlander, anything after the first doesn´t exist.
No. Everyone got screwed over in 3. Ripley became Jesus in 3 through awkwardly forced metaphor, which is always a stupid move to do with your characters. Say what you will about Prometheus' religious stuff at least they dropped the Jesus thing.
Highlander The Series was ok. Granted that season about the Demon was stupid. But the rest of it isn't bad.

I gotta catch up on the alien movies. I was always more of a Predator fan myself. *Shrugs*

I have never watched an "Aliens" movies in my life. But since I'm a big of Neill Blomkamp, I might watch that one.

As we've said. The first 2 are the only worthwhile ones.
3 Despite what the OP says makes the horror take a backseat to Depression and Religion worse than Prometheus does.
And Resurrection has the Newborn in it and is a Corny affair overall.
And the AVP movies are the AVP movies, one has a lot of action but lamer Predators, and AVPR has a cooler Predator but it's too dark to see anything.

I did see Prometheus and thought it was incredibly boring.

I think it's ok. Nothing substantial. But it's alright.
Better than 3 and Resurrection by a wide margin imo.

And stupid. Really really screwed over the fossilized space pilot storyline and the alien beginning, and humanity. I try to forget it as much as possible. Some things should stay as they are, mysteries.

Even if you don't like Alien 3 I would suggest watching the featurettes that were made for it as they really go into all the issues and troubles that the movie went through from script changes to director changes to concept changes. Frankly it is amazing Alien 3 was made at all after you watch these.
I will admit the original concept for Alien 3 was really.... interesting.

I decided to give Ridley Scott one more chance with Prometheus. I will avoid all of his movies post-Gladiator from now on.

Yeah the Xenomorph computer virus from the first script is an...oddity...to say the least.

Higlander series also ignored the first film. Imagine if in the last episode the kurgan, sorry, THE KURGAN, had paid a visit to Duncan.
About Jesus, well, guess why the Engineers want to wipe out humanity according to Scott. A3 would have worked better if anybody actually believed that was the last alien. As if there wasn´t a derelict full of them. Sacrifice theme loses a lot when you know it´s pointless and/or the result of very bad writing (ME3...). Knowing whatever was going on the producers minds to do their best to kill a franchise would make a good film though.

Yeah, that's the best way to go about anything Highlander related is if you just make it separate from the previous works.
Fortunately the explicit reference to space jockey jesus was cut out of the final cut of the film.

But there´s a sequel coming, it´s still in continuity, and It´s clear Whatever-her-name was wanted to visit the Engineers to ask them about why they wanted to destroy humanity. Which they had obviously forgotten about if after 2000 years of losing contact with the guys in charge we still lived, so she´s going to warn them we are still around, instead of going to Earth to warn about a hostile superior tech race.
How can someone be so stupid?
