I'm interested in purchasing a tablet. All last season I kept seeing ads that claimed the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 was the official tablet of the NFL.

Do you think this is a good tablet? Would you buy one?

If not, what would you buy?

You should buy the official tablet of the NBA. Is that a thing? It should be a thing.

Not if Bill Belichick is using it to cheat
All 32 teams in the NFL use it. Seahawks too:Not if Bill Belichick is using it to cheat

Damn, just looked at the price on that MSP3. Ouch. Is $699 around the standard price for tablets like that? I don't really look those up. I'd rather buy a TV with that money. Or a gaming console. Or a pre-built PC. Something I would need for gaming, really.
In reviews for softwares it will be easier here, but...
We should classify BSNers for hardwares: Poor/Middle/Rich
Obviously the poor go for series GTX760, R9-280 and cheap stuff likes them. Obviously no one gets GTX750 or R9-270 here anymore!
The Rich might want Titan, GTX 980 or R9-295x cards, etc.
To hell with a tablet

I want to give katie a dislike for actually showing Bill Belichick. ![]()
Tablets are like a lot of things personal preference. I have a Samsung I am quite happy with. Apples are over priced (Expects to be assaulted by all Apple fans)
Yeah, tablets and gaming aren't really on the same page yet.
Now... tablets and work? I'd kill for one of those Surfaces, especially since they are compatible with all Office products. That would be a game changer.
Yeah. They're much easier to carry than laptops (1/10 weight), but (even if have windows) can't perform programs like AutoCad, Visual Studio and 3D.S.Max. Tablets only can run very light programs.
About gaming, if android or Mac their gaming collection still sucks. If windows, they can run very old games. Most likely prior to KOTOR thanks to their minimal power (or simply newer light and indie game).
Oh my god, when I get a new mobile PC (tablet, laptop, whatever), later this decade (maybe not this year, but 2016-2017 quite possibly), I'll be AMAZEDDD by what exists.
I've been on this desktop since 2011-2012, stopping my use of my laptop (bought 2011) in 2012-2013 due to some malfunctions.
So I've largely ignored the last couple years of advancements, and if I give myself another up to couple years... 0_0 tech shock!
I'm hoping things can move fast enough to let me run more advanced (not top end at all, but still) programs on a very lightweight computer. Ideally able to play the Mass Effect trilogy haha, even if on more Medium settings.
This stuff is the future. Even if not the near future so much as 2020s.

^ A 2010 PC could easily run ME trilogy on max settings.

Meant more a tablet
If you're looking for a cheap, but good fountain pen, I can honestly recommend three.
Lamy Safari
Pilot Metropolitan
Baoer 801
They are all very well sealed, which is an important feature in a FP, particularly if one uses advanced inks.
Baoer 801 is a very slim pen, but in many ways the nicest, (if you don't get a bad apple, which I suppose can happen). It only comes with a fine point, though. (Baoer 388 is also a nice pen, but maybe not quite as well sealed, also only comes with fine point).
Pilot Metropolitan comes only in fine ("medium" in Japanese) and extra fine ("fine" in Japanese) point.
Lamy Safari is your choice if you want a lighter, non-metallic, thicker pen to hold. It's also available with a choice of tips, including genuinely medium and broad. It's also very easy to exchange the tip. And Lamy's converter which you can buy for it is topnotch.
Lamy Safari is typically the first FP I recommend to FP beginners. But Baoer 801 is usually the one I give away as gift (cheap gift).

I'm creating a shopper's thread where questions and product reviews can be shared about anything you're shopping for or have bought fairly recently. Price and quality comparisons, anything that is helpful is welcome to be posted here. Legal merchandise only. (I know that should go without saying, but I'd rather stress it than risk misunderstandings.)

It looks flimsy as f##k, I don't trust that my troll paws wouldn't crack 'em in half while perusing Amazon for Ken clothes.

Hey.
Wait for the windows 10 surface. The OS is a bit shaky where it stands, windows 10 is bound to give you a better experience for your buck
No need to show Bill whatever on this thread. Save that stuff for the NFL thread.
From what I hear the SP3 is already quite good and can already do some light gaming (Civ V and XCOM are apparently possible when you turn the settings down), although its main focus is on work.
Personally, if you're interested, I would wait for the SP4, as those will probably have Windows 10 (needless to say, likely to be a huge upgrade over 8 even for a tablet) and be powered by a Broadwell processor.
The BSN:
Don't buy it. Steal it from a friend. It's what Bioware would want.

Someone please make a Gaming/Software/Hardware News thread, so we can put our news links about these stuff there and talk about them.
Like How a graphic card is weak or not, a laptop is overpriced and scam, how is Win 10, is the newest Adobe photoshop any good, WTH Ubisoft is doing, Wii U newest innovation etc.
It will be very useful for everyone.
[Edit]: What if KatieFrost edited the OP and made it something as comprehensive as I suggested?

My personal experience is that whilst gaming communities are diverse and not everyone can be swept under the same rug, those communities are too inexperienced with actual hardware/software, or worse yet, only superficially experienced, which makes them sound like they know their stuff, but actually don't. Plus you get all the biased opinions/fanboys, usually based on anecdotal evidence rather than objective argumentation.
My buyers advice is thus: you want good advice, go to tech websites that are about the kind of stuff you're looking at. Check reviews, read customer feedback and most important of all, be aware what exactly you want in the first place.

What I mean is putting the hardwares review links in that thread too. Both News and Reviews and indeed biased opinions! But exclude video game reviews which may dominate and destroy the usefulness and focus of this not-built-yet thread.
