BLASPHEMY. I don't how could you not possibly enjoy the brilliance of Nightcrawler, Or the creative genius of Birdman, Or the brilliant Whiplash. Most if not all of this year's academy awards nominees were just brilliant.

I haven't seen The Theory of Everything, Selma, The Imitation Game or American Sniper yet. But I have been wanting to watch both The Theory of  Everything and The Imitation Game for quite a while now.

LOL i thaught you said Intimdation Game.

The fact that war is awful, not "heroic" and that there are always innocents & children caught in the crossfire

You don't think the scene where a man got executed by firing squad after watching his kid get drilled in the head as a result of participating in a plan that he was forced into by American soldiers kicking down his door and shoving a gun in his and his wife's face addressed that point at all?

I don't think the movie was good, but I think it's laughable that people consider any American military movie that portrays the American soldiers or their cause in a positive light to be propaganda.

Pretty much this. Anytime an American war movie comes out that word gets tossed around like candy.

Not enough evil villains with powder wigs who burn down churches.

From what I understand, the movie had no issue with showing that.

I almost read the book this was based on, but then I read a lot of stuff about the book and the person behind it and decided to read another book written by a different sniper.

No real interest in watching the movie.

Oh I have this movie to watch and it's much better than those you mentioned:

And in my watch list are movies acted by Mark Wahlberg and Nicolas Cage.

You're an action movie buff. Nothing wrong with that, I'm just saying that because you don't like a certain genre or type of movies doesn't make them bad. It's just subjective. And nothing wrong with movies led by Walhberg or Cage either, I judge a movie by its content, Not by the reputation or the creative tendencies of its actors/directors. Just don't mention the Fast & Furious franchise and we're fine. :D

I admit it. I haven't seen it. I also doubt I ever will. Despite the fact that I love Eastwood's directing and acting. (despite some of the heavy-handed "morals" of a couple of his more recent films)

This movie absolutely IS propaganda, in that it not only attempts to sway the viewer to pity soldiers, and 'Murican policy makers but also assumes that the audience is going to go along with the Hyper- patriotism & Xenophobia which is often an underlying theme in American war films.

Also, with the political climate in the US and the world, can we PLEASE stop eating up every morsel the media serves us? Can we try to think critically and honestly about what our role in the world community should be? Perhaps make up our OWN minds once in a while about important issues rather than jumping on band-wagons or voting for who we think "the Pope would vote for"?

Agreed that critical thinking is needed, and one should gather news from varied sources. But since I do these things myself, it is doubtful that this film is propaganda, as reviews remain conflicted on this point. And I personally question the sources calling it such.

Eastwood appears to have made an entertaining anti-war film (ie; true soldiers do not want war), and has a history of other like films. Like yourself, I have chosen not to see it, but more so that I wish to avoid the strong language and depressing mood of the film based on other past works like it.

May re-watch Kelly's Heroes instead....

I both watch

That thing is one of the main reasons I no longer watch the Academy Awards, as Hollywood has been so out of touch with reality for the past couple of decades. There is also a difference between getting varied outlooks on news, and outright fabrication, lies, and distortions. Pass.

No it's not, it's a anti war film. Throughout the entire movie you see a man who originally was a very patriotic soldier get ground down into an empty shell of his former self. If there is one complaint I have with the movie it's that it doesn't go far enough. People need to be shocked, they need to be slapped upside their heads and understand war is a waste of life.

Not exactly. War has a very high cost, but is sometimes necessary to insure the safety of innocents by defeating a great evil. WWII; the prologue, the hesitation of other countries to get involved, and the conclusion seem to indicate that apathy is far worse than War. IMO, of course.

Something like this ? Haven't seen the movie. But haven,t like.. every country done this ? Make your country seem to be the best place in the world and make other country seem to be the worst place in the world ?

Dehumanize your enemy so your soldier can become cold killing machine ? The Japanese soldier that killed the Chinese . The American that massacred the native and the Nazi that slaughtered the Jew. Ain't the same thing when you think about it ? It's always done for the greater good and the greater good is always your side.

Ah But I think we can't talk about politic on these board.
