Fable Legends is free-to-play
Inspired by League of Legends, Lionhead ventures into uncharted territory.

Microsoft's PC and Xbox One multiplayer-focused, four-versus-one cross-platform role-playing game Fable Legends is free-to-play.

Fable Heroes is developer Lionheads first free-to-play game, and marks a significant departure from previous games in the series not only in terms of gameplay, but how customers will pay for it.

Much like Riot with its hugely successful MOBA League of Legends, Lionhead will rotate the heroes that will be available to play for free in Fable Legends, but also let players unlock them for permanent use by spending the in-game currency or real world money.

Here's how it works: at launch Fable Legends will offer four different heroes to play for free. After two weeks these four heroes will leave the rotation and be replaced by a new group of heroes. This process will continue for as long as Microsoft's servers run the game.

If you want to unlock a hero so you can play it whenever you want, you can spend silver coins, the in-game currency gained through playing quests, or buy it with real world money. Your hero and equipment progress is maintained throughout. Lionhead is yet to decide how much heroes will cost to buy.

My decision to abandon the Xbox ship, after over a decade of service, seems like it was the right choice. Fable was either going to become a far better product without Molyneux or go to **** without his creative input.

It seems Lionhead does not need Molyneux to **** everything up spectacularly. I guess they learned well from him.

Actually this is better than I thought, at first I thought they were going to charge full price for the initial game while still having a "free to play" price model when it comes to unlocking heroes (and with the amount of time it took for them to confirm that you can tell they were sure as hell thinking of it), but now at least it is free to play with a free to play pricing model for unlocks so I guess that is an improvement? Still have no interest in the game though.

Not bothering.

Part of the hook for me was making decisions and watching the world grow as I quested, I also liked being able to customize my character however I liked.

They need to stop this silliness, make Fable IV and have it play more like 1 and 2.

The more I hear about this game, the more skeptical I become about it's prospects.

Since its free to play, I'll give it a shot. I don't expect I'll stick with it, but you never know.

I tell ya, I miss the good old days where I didn't have to worry about series I enjoyed being turned into MMO's or MMO knock-offs. It seems to be happening to every game I love these days.

I pray it doesn't happen to Fallout  :?

This actually isn't a MMO, just regular multi-player.

There was a legitimate Fallout MMO in the works, but then Bethesda's lawyers happened and we've heard nothing of it since.

I consider it a knock-off because of their 10 year support plan for it, but you are right.

Yeah, I remember that, it was going was abbreviated as F.O.O.L oddly enough

That court case is what won Bethesda the rights to the entire Fallout series, before that court case they only had the rights to make 3 games.

it sounds horrible at first, not many free to play games work well with their pricing and yada yada

but hearing the details the developer spilled on us is making me hopeful

i don't see the harm in at least giving the game a chance when its released (it is free to play)

Honestly feel people are passing judgement on this game way too early. Looks fun to me and character design are better than anything shown in previous games

Plus Fable 4 is rumored to still be in the works and aside from Fable 3 I've got no ill will towards Lionhead so they've got my support if it plays well

I'll probably give it a go simply because it's free, which is more than I was going to do when I thought it would be a full price game so that's something I suppose.

I'll probably check it out. If it turns out that I won't be able to use my favourite characters without spending money, I'll make the decision based on what I thought of it from my experience trying it.

Funny thing about Fable IV. A few years ago after he left Lionhead even Peter Molyneux was like, "So guys, where's Fable IV? C'MON" lololol

I know the Fable series cops a lot of flak (and much of it rightfully so) but I really enjoyed the fable series (yes even 3 though 2 is my favorite) for what they were and would definitely love to see a proper Fable 4 if it was done in the same vein as Fable 2.

Fable III could've been fantastic but so much of it seemed half-assed. I remember thinking that there was a bug in the game that led to multiple weapons looking exactly the same(which makes no sense since they were legendary weapons with their own histories and such). I ended up finding out it wasn't a bug;it was legitimately the game design.

That is stupid as *expletive*. Fable I and II did not have this problem, and I don't know what made them think this was viable in III.

Also, while I don't mind the steampunk evolution of the franchise, I do miss the true Fable I and II feel. I'd rather go back to that, to be honest. A good combination of the first two Fables would be ideal.

However, I can't take everything away from Fable III. It has some beautiful stuff in it. My favorite part of it, a part I remember to this day, was Driftwood and its view of Bowerstone from the water. Goddamn it was amazing at night.

The Legendary weapons looking the same annoyed the heck out of me as well. I loved collecting the legendaries and reading about their past, but 3 made the experience feel watered down a bit by having shared models.

My biggest problem with Fable 3 was that it never seemed to stop with the jokes long enough for it to be taken seriously. I love the dark humor of the Fable series, but from what I can remember, 3 was pretty much just a collection of fart jokes

Well, ok. My true biggest problem was actually the ending and

Spoiler

Back when Fable 3 was in development I swear I remembered reading that Peter had the entire story for 4 and 5 figured out, maybe he just meant ideas or his concepts were thrown out when he left?

I used to be all for them going to the future, but while I was playing Assassin's Creed Unity I found myself reminiscing about the past eras a lot, so I get the feeling that might go the same way with a future set Fable IV, so I'd rather have it set back in the past. Maybe between Fable 1 and 2 or before Fable 1? I don't know, I'm just disappointed that they are going to be focused on Fable Legends for 10 years and I highly doubt they'd make another Fable game while they have an online co-op based one going because they'd want to be able to keep those that want a taste of Fable.

I hope that Legends is a good game and that those that play enjoy it, but I can already tell that it's not for me (I prefer to play alone) and I wish that they hadn't piggybacked off of the Fable I.P. so that both Legends and a Fable IV could have come out.

I don't think Fable III was colorful enough. It was very muted. I hate when games have muted art styles. DAO had one and DA2 had one which thankfully Inquisition fixed. Amalur didn't have that problem. Skyrim didn't(though mods on PC can make it way more colorful, I don't have that option as I play on console).

I think thats partly why I loved Driftwood. It was colorful. Speaking about color, I miss the area behind the demon door at Fairfax Castle in Fable II. Another place I'll never forget.

This is my main issue with Fable Legends, at the end of the day I was looking forward to Fable 4 and instead where getting this free to play MOBA inspired multi player game that's set in the Fable Universe. The new gameplay additions sound very alien and foreign to me since I'm a console gamer and I don't really have any experience with these type of games. Lionhead haven't done a very good job of reassuring Fable fans that Fable a Legends will still be a look and feel like a Fable game despite the all changes.

Biggest issue with Fable 4 is the support isn't fully there yet, need more steam in its engine or else it will end up like Phantom Dust and the Last Guardian

Also play exclusively on consoles and I say give it a try, its free and you can't beat that deal. Also, I wouldn't put it along side games like League of Legends, think of it more like Evolve except 1 player controls all the monsters instead of one :)
