This is not an attack against those who chose the gay romnancing options in DAI.

It's an option for those straight gamers would like to romance certain characters that are only gay and lesbian.

My post is innocent I admit and my intentions are pure.

I personally would love to have the option in the setup of DAI.

Remember, this is a video game afterall and not reality.

Remember that you have the option to romance Dorian and Sera.  You just have to create a gay PC.  You are right.  It is a video game, afterall, and not reality, so it's not a big deal to RP a character that has a different gender and/or sexuality as you.  Not everyone likes doing that, but it doesn't mean that you don't have the option.  For example, I prefer to play as a gay male PC.  But my lady dwarf is romancing Blackwall and it's a great story that I'm glad I'm getting a chance to experience.

Can't decide whether the OP attempts to provoke, or is just new in the neighbourhood...

In the real world, the majority of people are not all bi sexual.

That's why I was suggesting the three options selection before the game starts.

Innocent.

Is almost everyone in DAI bi sexual like DA2 or is that option emphasized more and therefore it just seems like that?

Right, but, as you yourself point out, it's not the real world.  It's a video game.  I'm also not a dwarf in real life, but it doesn't stop me from enjoying the game as a dwarf.

I guess it comes down to this:  If you want to romance Dorian or Sera, roll a gay PC.  If you want to romance Dorian or Sera and don't feel comfortable rolling a gay PC, then I guess you are out of luck because there's no other option right now.  Personally, I don't think it's a bad thing.

I like the idea of having characters of various different sexualities.

I'm not sure about the options that alter the sexualities of each characters.

If that is the goal of the opening poster, then surely the DA2 (everyone is bisexual) would do just that.

I think the idea of having representation of different sexualities is a way of giving us gamers more options.

It also can be a way of educating people about different sexualities.

There is plenty of ignorance about LGBT's and hey I'll admit I'm very ignorant myself.

Whenever someone takes the time to enlighten me on different sexualities I welcome it.

Or you could just not flirt with the characters that you don't want to romance.

So basically you can't win, no matter what you try?

It's a no win situation?

And yes, true, my post is innocent with no attacking and negativity intended.

I'm not seeing a problem that requires a solution.

Let it be, the subject matter is too personal frankly to be wrapped up into a simple solution such as the one offered.

Personally I am incapable of understanding why anybody would be offended, put off, uncomfortable, or whatever regarding the content of this game as it is now.  I can see and understand it if the game forced a player sexuality but it does not do that so what's the problem?  Suggestion above regarding modding is valid albeit there has been some bizarre controversy regarding a particular mod that changed Cas's sexuality because, I guess, some people are insecure enough to actually worry about how somebody else decides to play their game in their home on their gaming platform, like I said, bizarre.

Why wouldn't it work?

Everyone would be happy.

Myself, I would chose straight gameplay and others could chose gay gameplay and others still could chose a mix gamplay.

This wouldn't offend me at all because it would work.

Making almost everyone gay, lesbian and bi sexual isn't realistic.

This kind of implies that you "are" offended by gay gameplay. And if that is so then the problem is with you, not the game.

This is not an attack against those who chose the gay romnancing options in DAI.

I don't view this as an attack. You appear to be open minded about sexuality and are looking for ways to appease everyone. I see this as a compromise that will annoy everyone. DA2 went for a "player sexual" compromise that upset a lot of people.

It's an option for those straight gamers would like to romance certain characters that are only gay and lesbian.

That option already exists. There are heterosexual love interests, homosexual love interests and bisexual love interests. People of any sexuality can give all of the different options a try if they wish.

My post is innocent I admit and my intentions are pure.

I don't know what your intentions are though you are probably coming from a good place. As for the post itself, it's misguided. Not ignorant, just misguided.

I personally would love to have the option in the setup of DAI.

Sorry if I'm being harsh on you. Being on the forums whenever one comes up with a bad idea, it either gets ignored or gets slaughtered. I've experienced both. I'm sorry I just don't think it was a good idea. You seem like a nice guy though.

Remember, this is a video game afterall and not reality.

I'm coming more of a "fiction is art intimating life" rather than vice versa. Video games like any other fiction reflect the reality we live in. I don't think BioWare is not inclusive for "political message". They are inclusive to reflect changing attitudes in society in an attempt to accommodate to gamers.

I am not the politically correct type of a guy and catering to everyone all of the time.

No, its not me. Read other threads and posts on this topic.

If I don't have an issue with chosing a stragiht game play, then I don't see why it would be an issue chosing a gay gameplay or random mix gamplay either.

Three simple choices before the games starts.

I don't see why this is becoming a big deal.

I bought my copy of this game. I would like to play it through as a straight male character and romance all the ladies. I don't see the problem.

I strongly dislike the idea OP. The reason the characters are made with their own personality, sexuality and such is for the main character, you, to see each of them in different perspectives. I wouldn't like it if all my characters were gay or straight as you then take away the experience you could have being different than the others. No idea if you get what I'm saying as to why I don't like the idea but I have my reasons. It just changes everything if you make "everyone have the same sexual preference". I'm perfectly fine with what BioWare already does with the romance anyways ( Isabella is fav <3 ). I don't care if there is a DA game that there is not a single romance option I like, i'll wait till the next game and see if one catches my eye as romance isn't the main point of the game, it is a nice bonus however.

Nor are the majority of people black (or white, for that matter). Would you ever suggest a game implement a racial toggle switch? Can you not see that what you're suggesting is principally the same thing?

No, can you imagine the complaints: No one would be happy with random orientations if they could not choose who was what orientation for each new game. Some would complain because the game COULD be all gay, all straight, etc... Besides that would be a nightmare keeping the gating for romance, the dialog and, scenes right when the NPCs could be any orientation the player wanted.

Lets have a little reality - we don't decide our orientation, we are born with it, and, it becomes evident as we mature. No one wakes up and says "I think I'll be [insert orientation] today."

And several of us have already explained why this wouldn't work for many people.

I don't see why this is becoming a big deal.

Because you are refusing to acknowledge what other people are saying, that's why.  No one is attacking you but very few people agree with you.  That's pretty much all there is to it.

I bought my copy of this game. I would like to play it through as a straight male character and romance all the ladies. I don't see the problem.

You bought a product and now want to use it for something else.  That's on you.  Are you on the Ford website complaining that you can't fly in your car?  I mean, they are both modes of transportation, so why can't your car fly?

I understand.

So you can't bring up and topic anymore or risk getting flamed badly???

What happened to freedom of speech?

I guess not anymore......its one way or nothing. Love this democracy.

Also, please PLEASE go look up what "Freedom of Speech" entails.  It doesn't mean what you think it means.

And with that, I'm done.  I tried, but it's obvious where this is going.  Adios!

I don't view them as simple choices. Sexuality is a very complex and loaded topic.

I thought I understood it. It seems simple right.

Heterosexual people are into the opposite sex.

Homosexual people are into the same sex.

Bisexual people are into both.

Seems simple.

In reality it is not. There is a whole history of prejudice, misunderstandings and very complex social and cultural implications surrounding sexuality.

The options are basically a way for ignorant people to remove certain facets of characters from their gaming experience.

This option is problematic.

I would love to romance Sera as a straight male character but I can't. Why not?

Why can't she be bi sexual and cater to all????

Why can't a straight female character romance Dorian?

Why can't he be bi sexual????

So because you think it's unrealistic for this fictional world to have so many LGBT people, you want to make it so that either:

A. the world has no LGBT people (which would be unrealistic)

B. the world has only LGBT people (which would also be unrealistic)

or C. there is a random mix of both (which is what the game already has in the first place)

...What?

Okay, I'll go one last time.

Hey OP, I am gay and I want to romance you.  Why can't I?  Why can't you just be bisexual?

Yeah, same thing for the characters.  The authors wrote them to be gay.  They aren't going to change and Bioware is never doing a 'gay toggle'.  Deal with it.

Thanks for all the posts everyone. I understand more were people are coming from.

The only solution is make everyone bi sexual in the game. Solves everything in one full swoop.

We can all say pretty much whatever we like.

We can all respond pretty much however we like.

Unfortunately we don't have to be diplomatic about it.

If you hold a minority point of view, be prepared to defend it especially if you're not getting much support from anyone else.

However I just found your post problematic. Feel free to defend it. No one is telling you "don't say this".

When I say something dumb I get flamed for it, and personally I'm fine with it.

No offence but any thread in the bsn that concerns sexuality or romance, usually ends up being a big deal.It tends to attract people that are passionate about their views and opinions (and they're entitled to them after all). However sometimes things tend to get heated.

The problem is that Dragon age is often mistaken for a date simulator, mainly because it provides more interesting and realistic interactions with the availabe romanceable characters than any romance simulator probably ever has. However, it is not...Theses are characters, written and designed with their own personalities, sexualities and views.Because this is a rpg and romances are just optional content.I understand people who want to romance particular characters with a particular gender but still...
