What happened to freedom of speech?

It seems that you, like so many others, buy into the unfortunate fallacy that, in order to believe in freedom of speech, you need to respect the opinions of others. This is completely false.

In order to believe in freedom of speech you need to respect the right of others to voice their opinions. You can still do this while holding complete and open contempt for the opinions themselves.

In my case, I do not care for what you're suggesting but I'm not trampling over your right to suggest it. If you're going to take vehement disagreement as an infringement of your personal freedoms, then you're being immature.

Edit: Disregard. I began typing this before your last couple of posts went up

Even making all characters bi can ruin the game experience when it comes to romance. Gays have their own perspective, straight has their own perspective, lesbian has their own perspective, and bi has their own perspective. Sure bi likes both but when someone is straight up gay, they'll have a different personality than someone who is bi (even tho, they too like men.) You're going to have to just either make a character to romance who you want or just deal with it really (not to be harsh). like I said, i'm perfectly happy with how BioWare has been handling it so far.

If you want to romance the gay characters... PLAY a gay character.
It is that simple. Make a really girly-looking guy or a really butch female... or don't... it doesn't matter.

Wanting to romance a gay character as a member of the opposite gender?
Sorry. Not gonna happen. Not in the game, not in real life.

OTHER things to think about:
Horse love-interest.
Undead love-interest.
Jimmy Saville mode.

Solution to every "problem" that has ever occured because someone is interested in pursuing a romantic relationship with someone who isn't mutually interested:

-Too bad, I´ll just get on with my life.

I just wanted the option to romance the ladies in the game as a straight gamer. Sera for example.

Hush hush, can't talk about it anymore. Gotcha.

and now...ya just being like a kid

You can Talk about it , but if you won't move from 'Why can't Sera be bisexual' when she is clearly a LESBIAN and that won't change just cose you want her to . Then there is no 'Talk' . It become 'I want' VS ' Here what you have , deal with it' .

If you really want to talk , it should lead you to 'My idea is bad , because while my idea from the outside it look like an easy fix . It also send the message that Bioware should've Made 3 Games . 1 for hetero where they get everyone they want , 1 for gay so I dont have to see them , and 1 for mixed and random for those who like to Live dangerously' .

Maybe that's not really what you mean , but it is how it come off .

i read much criticism about the member of the group...that as example the personality of varric, solas and all the other ones are too trivial.

i think that the different sexual orientation of the character is a part of his own personality.this part affect the behave and animation of the character and sometimes his voice.. also the dialog options .some personal missions are about the sexual orientation of the character.. like dorian who need help to placate with his  father.. because his father is angry that he is gay and that he can't have own kids if he follow this way.

if you change dorians sexual orientation then it destroy his personal family story and the mission and quest.this is only one example.

i think its a special part of the personality of each character... that the one like boys..the other only girls ...and someone else both.

plus i would call it trivial if all character would have the same sexual orientation..

all sexual orientations have place into the game .. dai got a award for that.i like it.

to find a companion to fall in love with him should be also a part from the story like the companion who tell to you that he can't love you because he is gay or that she is a lesbian and you not.

if every companion would be able to jump together with you in the bed  ...then all personality of the character are gone.

Seriously though... to cater to all sexual preferences, this game needs hermaphrodite centaurs at the very least.

Ummm, no, my idea isn't bad.

So anything that is romately not in line with LGBT is a bad idea now?

This is a video game.

I would of liked to romance any female character and there are threads here of female stragiht gamers who would of liked to romance any male character.

Having the option to do so would of worked great.

This is a video game and not real life.

We should be able to do whatever we want in this video game because its not reality and its a role playing game.

Forcing someone to be a gay character just to romance someone? Really?

Or forcing someone to be a straight character just to romance somone? Really?

Options..........role playing game........options...........

Wait what?
So they got an award for something that they FAILED to do?

That is just terrible.

My sexual orientation is glassesosexual.
I'm only attracted to people with glasses.
DAI doesn't have any people with glasses! Or at least not real glasses. Not those terrible mini-glassy thingies.

And what about people who only get off through foot-play or autoerotic asphyxiation?

In theory, it should work.
In practice, it can't.

From a technological perspective, it would take an awful lot of effort for the developers to include up to four different romances for each LI - one romance where the character is straight for when the player picked option 1, one romance where the character is gay for when the player picked option 3, and then possibly an additional two romances where the character is bisexual and romancing a male PC, and where the character is bisexual and romancing a female PC, for when the player picked option 2.

From a social perspective, there are a number of developers and players alike who would be disinclined to include this sort of system to begin with because they feel that giving the characters such fluid sexualities - which could be entirely controlled by the player - would be detrimental to their sense of authenticity.

I've noticed already, its one way or nothing here.

You have to support one way of thinking, or you get flamed, your options mean nothing, and you can't speak your mind either, even though we are still told we can.

This is not democracy anymore. Its one way or the highway plain and simple.

And then you'll still here.....we'll, you can speak your mind or you have to admit your idea is a bad idea (ours aren't bad ideas).........always politically correct too.

I just want to play DAI and romance the ladies, plain and simple.

I look forward to any constructive posts with working options and you can actually speak your mind without getting attacked and flamed.......

Having the option to do so would of worked great. Or be an insult to people of a multitude of different sexualities.

We should be able to do whatever we want in this video game because its not reality and its a role playing game. It would be pretty sweet if you could engage in rock climbing in Dragon Age Inquisition. Also a bit of mounted combat would have been nice. Imagine firing arrows whilst on a horse, or slinging spells whilst riding. [sigh] Shame really.

Forcing someone to be a gay character just to romance someone? Really? In real life sexuality isn't an option.

Or forcing someone to be a straight character just to romance somone? Really? Again, in real life sexuality isn't an option.

Options..........role playing game........options........... There are romance options for heterosexuals, gays, lesbians and bisexuals not to mention romance options for different races. It's not a perfect system but it seems somewhat realistic.  As for "this is a video game not real life" well all video games inject varying levels of realism to make the game feel real. In Dragon Age 2 it just felt contrived that all love interests were bisexual.

As for the OP's idea, it presents the same problem for me as the "Hawke-sexuality" of the companions in DA2 did: It removes the illusion of agency on the part of the companions. No single-player game can fully simulate a real romance between two fully free-willed people, but I have to at least be able to suspend my disbelief. Choosing the companions' sexuality for them interferes with that. To me, it's not worth it.

So you can't bring up and topic anymore or risk getting flamed badly???

What happened to freedom of speech?

I guess not anymore......its one way or nothing. Love this democracy.

I didn't see anyone flame you. Or tell you that you couldn't share your idea. People disagreeing with you does not equal flaming or limiting your free speech.

It sort of sounds like you're the one who is saying that no one is allowed to disagree with you, not the other way around.

You have a point. I will give you that much.

Sure we've all been critical, but we've reached for the sledgehammer (myself especially).

This is not a constructive manner of approach and maybe that has clouded you from seeing the issues we have with the opening post.

You seem like a nice guy and I'm really sorry if I've hurt your feelings.

Well, seems this thread is still going, so I guess I'll post.

You say you're not the PC guy trying to cater to everyone's wishes. And that is all well and good for you, however, I'm also not a PC guy (you can read some of my more outstanding opinions in the Gay Knight thread if you are so inclined). With that said, I think your idea is terrible. More than that, it is down right stupid. To that end, you never answered daveliam's question: Why can't he romance you as a gay man? Because you aren't interested in men. How hard is that? Now, use your avatar into the Dragon Age world to ask the same of Sera. What's her answer? She's not interested in men. It;s the same exact answer, yet you want to override "her" reasoning (her being the writer's characterization) for your own whim.

You don't get to do that, just like no man can force you to date them because they want to.

DAI is getting way too politicallty correct.

I just want choices and to play my game "the way I want".

This has notnhing to do with anyone else.

I want to play DAI the way I want. Simple.

No politicall correctness.

You shold have choices.

And play DAI the way you would want to and not the way others would want you to do so.

Tomato tomaytoh...

It is a matter of attraction.
My attraction to glasses is orders of magnitude stronger than whatever "natural orientation" I may have...
When people ask me my sexuality, I tell them "glasses".
What people wear on their face plays a bigger part to me than what they have between their legs.

I may be acting exceedingly facetious in this thread... but that is a true thing.

Answer me this, why is no one allowed to disagree with you? Why is no one else allowed to share their opinions?
