You really haven't read Lord Surinen's posts in other threads have you?

Assuming his posts are all bad, that still wouldn't justify responding to him with insults and vulgarities.

Those are terrible things to write to someone. Your avatar indicates you don't like hate, but your words seem hateful.

Mmm, I have to say the avatar is as much a reminder to myself as anything else, and I don't always heed it as well as I should.

Now, assuming you were mainly talking about the paragraph where I described him as "trending towards psychotic" (please correct me if I'm wrong) that wasn't hate, that was my honest assessment of him after reading a number of posts by him.  The man's attitude towards women is consistently appalling, and some of what he has said strikes me as the kind of reasoning that leads to a seriously abusive relationship.

My family has had it's share of abusers.  My father lost a daughter from his last marriage to someone who, in his court statement, said things eerily similar to some of what I've read from this person.  As I said, I don't throw those terms around lightly.

That said, you're right, I should be able to exercise control.  So thank you for giving me that nudge, I do genuinely appreciate it.

To me, that sounds like asking an author to write an different version of their characters and their story and to have it available alongside the one they intended to write. Like saying,

"Oh, Mr. Stephen King. I know you really planned on the father going ax crazy at this point in the story, but could you instead have him reach a moment of renewed self-awareness, and spend the rest of the book embracing his sobriety and rebuilding his relationship with his wife and son? Some people are really made uncomfortable by the idea of all the murdering."

(I am not equating homosexuality with murder. This is strictly an example about literary and storytelling integrity)

Whatever any of us feel about it, it will just never happen. I don't believe that any writer would be okay with being asked to do this.

Great many writers do it, from movies through comics to tv series. I'm sure they would be ok with this, unless they have better job views on the future.

*Shrug* Feminism is relevant to my statement incidentally, and even if your statement were true, it hardy detracts from my point in the way you seem to think it does.

You profess to want someone "pure", but from that and your admission that you want someone from an "arranged marriage flock" it's fairly obvious that what you actually want is someone you can exert power over.  You're not interested in a relationship, only in having someone you can use, who has no choice in the matter.

At a guess, I'd say that constant derision has led you to form a twisted arrogance as a defense mechanism, which allows a veneer of confidence but does nothing to fix your deeply set insecurities and self-loathing, which manifest themselves as a need to dominate others.  Thankfully, all indications point to the fact that the women around you agree with my "unf***able" diagnosis above.

It does.

There is no gratification in exercising power over women, especially wives. At least it is below me. For such joys I would see to suggest slave companion. Of course that I'm not interested in the relationship itself but the profits coming from it. That is what arranged marriage is for.

How untrue. Insecurities and self loathing, aren't these the most common internet diagnoses? The problem with derision is that it works only if you deem speakers worthy. Do you get angry at stray dog when it barks at you? Every healthy man wishes to dominate.

Thanks TBJack.

Also, for the record, I confirmed what Brevnau said about the Google search. Typing in "Dragon Age Inquisition females" does in fact suggest "ugly" as the second search option.

Some men like to be the submissive individual in the relationship.

I am someone who would happily submit upon finding the "right person".

[fingers crossed she's the one].

I guess I'm unhealthy.

Can you give me a few examples of writers who have done this?

Not just making a different version of a story as time goes on, like Romero with the Living Dead series, but actually making different versions for the sake of audience preference?

Funny, it suggests "qunari" for me. There is no "ugly" in the list.

Should we consider this data as reliable, or simply as a reflection of the sad state of affairs on the internet...

Umm. I'm so glad that the Bowie bulge is not a fashion trend.

So many guys (like myself) would feel insecure.

Well fine, don't feel sympathy then. Still, others shouldn't respond with insults and vulgarities. TBJack agrees, and I respect him for that.

Every healthy man wishes to dominate.

There is almost a hint of truth in that.  The animal part of our brain does drive us to hunt, take, own and dominate.  Humanity has been able, however, to progress to a point where that urge is no longer necessary.  Those of us who think of more than ourselves ignore that primitive need in favor of other pursuits, however.

Technically speaking... didn't he pretty much describe the entire game-genre known as Visual Novels?

Well okay... not all of them... but I've noticed a lot of them have the actual characters you interact with change their own personalities based on YOUR (completely unrelated) choices. Like some sort of weird Schrodinger's Cat superposition of alternate sexual preferences.

For the record, I love a well-placed vulgarity, as long as it isn't insulting.

Personally I think everyone is bi. They are just not admitting it to themselves.

This is not only wrong, but hilariously wrong.

LYING.

No, not 'lying'. It is a business. These people are not 'independent' writers(even these get corrections from editors), they simply do their job.

I actually like to be dominated. Not so much in the BDSM sense but rather in the sense of having the love interest take the lead in the relationship.

I'm always worried that I might do something that might ruin the relationship since I don't know what to do if I'm thrust into the dominant role.

I guess I'm not a healthy man then.

I'm sad to hear it, it is truly unfortunate.

Plenty of anime did it and well in some way you can say that DA2 with brother and sister follow up, is also offering a different approach. Unfortunately I can't name them, but alternatives happen in media. Hm, no, I don't remember after all. People responsible for DA writing are not some 'great writers' but hired folk to make the hamburger. It is a game after all, it does not take as much time as book for that matter.

No. Only the playground has changed. Men still wishes to dominate, just exercise it in different manners on different levels. Doing something for others very often offer a gratification. There is nothing primitive about domination, especially considering that it very often requires a quite sophisticated approach. If anything, then altruism in its pure, that is theoretical form is nothing more than mental disorder.

The only example I can think of is from Amercan Dad when they spoofed the Fast and Furious movies, joking that the mild homoerotic subtext is actually because the entire franchise is written and filmed as a gay porno, then edited down to an audience-friendly version... except in France, who get it uncut?

I think people are confusing reality with Seth MacFarlane cartoons again? I made that mistake once when I got into a fight with a guy in a Big Bird costume, that didn't end up being half as funny as the Giant Chicken Fights would have you believe...

 :P

Bring back those goalposts, the special teams unit wants to kick a field goal.

No writer has ever made a different version of their story or characters on a fan's say so. And they never will.

Or, in other words... LYING.
