 This thread's funny, the OP with his stupid "make a way to remove gay characters or remove romances altogether" view

I like it, it is a good idea that would prevent me from experiencing unsavory spectacles. I would like it even more if they focus solely on the straight romances, but this idea is too good to be possible.

Or you could just, like, not romance a character who doesn't fit your orientation.

Maybe out of all of this.....DA4 has a sexual preference option when creating a character?

That would be a great idea and DA4 characters and interactions would be based on your choice.

Perfect. :D

I'll say this again. There is a sexual preference option. It's called not romancing someone of the same gender.

That's true. Still having a world exclusively of one sexuality or or another is still pretty bad. Reminds me Barney in The Simpsons.

"I'm just saying that when we die there's gonna be a planet for the French, a planet for the Chinese, and we'll all be a lot happier."

Again, that's not what OP said. Which is why the comments about segregation make no sense. OP didn't ask to erase gay people or straight people completely -at least to my understanding-, I don't think he/she cares for changing Celene's sexuality, for instance, just for those who are romanceable by pcs. Different thing.

I enjoyed Mass Effect 1 & 2 a great deal. I didn't have to be exposed to any bizarre content that broke my immersion. I think your idea of choosing your sexual orientation is perfect, that way everyone gets what they want without anything be forced on anyone else.

Like I said Mass Effect 1 & 2 are exactly as you described but without the need to pick a sexual orientation.  Imagine if there was a sexual orientation option for ME1 & ME2? Then all the gay/lesbian people would be in paradise.

Having a gay character is bizarre & ruins immersion?

Poppycock! Indignation and wallowing in squeamishness are much more fun.

I'm reasonably certain this idea has been suggested and denied a couple of times in the past, if not more.

Just unnecessary jargon disguised as 'improvement' when in fact it serves no purpose other than wasting developer resources and complicating a simple matter.

I know right? What was BioWare thinking when they invented gay people?

What "bizarre content" broke your immersion, precisely? I'm curious to see if it's what I think it is.

Read

When you start up DAI, you have three options:

(01) Straight game play

(02) random mix

(03) gay game play

This way, if someone likes to only play as a straight character, the game's characters would be straight.

Or if someone is gay, they can play as a gay character and the games characters would be gay.

How did you get anything but suggested segregation out of that post?

Because I read the rest of the thread too and got the impression that, questionable wording of the OP post aside, the issue here is more the romances, than the rest. I could be wrong though, ideally OP would clarify on this.

Except he never said that, he said this:

This way, if someone likes to only play as a straight character, the game's characters would be straight.

Now maybe he only meant the LI's. But that's not what was posted.

Ideally OP would change the OP so it doesn't sound borderline homophobic.

Homophobic people really are funny sometimes, is ok to have multiple straight characters but add 1 or 2 gay characters & its suddenly "whats up with all these gays making my throat sore by stuffing their agenda down it!!!" freakouts

You do realise Brevnau is being a straight up homophobe. You can't see what was wrong with his post? I'll give you a clue, it involves the words "bizarre content".

And you wonder why people are "flaming" you.

No man, you got it wrong.  I want you to be happy.  You could be much happier if David Gaider had the creative freedom to make the game EVEN more gay than it already is. Imagine DAI being three times as gay as it currently is. Wouldn't you be happy? All I'm saying is that if it could be filtered out somehow so I don't have to see it that would be great, why? Because I'm straight man.  That doesn't mean I don't like you. Hell I'll buy you a beer in real life man.

Mr. Gaider said, "…my question would be “why?” We don’t allow the player to de-select other sorts of content. A ‘violence’ toggle? A ‘mention of slavery’ toggle? A ‘sexual situations’ toggle? Why would we have a ‘gay’ toggle?

For some reason seeing gay content breaks my immersion. I just want to focus on the game and what is normal for me in my life.  In my life, I have zero interactions with anything gay, I rarely watch TV and don't know any gay people at work.  When I come home I watch non-gay tv shows and non-gay movies.

When I see gay content in game, I don't like it.  I will tolerate it if I have to.  I'm also a nice guy, so if I absolutely have to deal with gay content, I'll take solace knowing that it makes other people happy.

Now on a technical level, the toggle would be EXTREMELY easy to implement and given how EA/Bioware have their flag system, it wouldn't be hard to do. It's actually extremely simple. Bioware has had years & years & years of creating plot flags in whatever creation kits they use.  It would be SIMPLE, to add this feature.  You would only need to change a few sentences per companion to address the player as "he" or "she".

It's high time people came to terms with the fact that BioWare is not going to make customizable love interests in their games. If the dislike is strong enough, the most one can do is simply not buy their stuff, because it's sure as sh*t ain't gonna go the other way.

Skyrim handled what little romance there was in that game perfectly. Skyrim also sold twenty million copies. Skyrim is also moddable. Bethesda doesn't care what you do to their game, they want it to be YOUR WORLD. Bioware needs to get off their high horse and start making the game FOR THE PLAYER, not to appease the writers.

Ugh, it's just a game and not real, with not real characters

They're designed by someone behind a computer,

they're fake made-up people who have made-up orientations, only because of what someone said they would have

Does it really matter if they make everyone bisexual in the future, so everyone can romance everyone, and call it a day?

I certainly wouldn't care, since you know the characters are Fake and not real

I don't know why everyone gets so huffy about it, jeez

I love logical and intelligent people who keep their emotions in check. You have my deepest respect.  I agree, they should make all companions bi-sexual or just add a sexual orientation option check in the options menu.  Every Bioware game should also be moddable.

No, the issue is that the OP wanted to romance Sera as a male IQ and tried hide his own issues behind "equality".

All I can think of is David Gaider at the GDC panel in 2013, talking about sex and romance in BioWare games.  For those that don't know, GDC stands for Game Developers Conference.  This isn't a con for fans or for investment holders.  This is an annual convention of game designers and developers getting together with their peers. When David Gaider talked about the gay toggle requests, the audience actually laughed out of disbelief.   It was the very idea of a gay toggle, (because I'm calling this thread what is) that made other developers from different companies laugh.  He then had to explain to his fellow peers in the industry how serious these requests were.

At this point, I wouldn't mind if that happened. It would avoid these sorts of discussions.
