Canon elven protagonist for the fourth game?

The only thing I don't wanna see again is a mandatory human protagonist. Eugh. I loved Hawke, but one's enough.

I would be happy with anything that is non-Human noble at this point. I mean all the human characters we have had so far are nobility or related to nobility. Cousland, Amell, Hawke, Trevelyan.
As some of the posters said, Bioware needs to market their games to the mundane mediocres out there hence that is why human nobles are in the game.
Why don't they give us those humans from the human tribes ? An Avvar or a Chasind ? I would like an Avvar human.
As one of the 'mundane mediocres', I'm very happy with the human noble choices offered to me. I'm dead tired of the overused, omnipresent 'lowly nobody raises to be the hero'. I find it much more of a novelty to start from the position of a royal or noble, tyvm.

I guess it's frustrating because DA is the first setting where I'm actually invested in dwarves, elves, "mages" (inasmuch as they're a 'race'), etc. I can slip into their shoes for a while and really empathize with them as a people? I don't know if that makes sense, but I'm just glad that they're not reduced to pretty humans/short humans/horned humans. Their cultures are fleshed-out and nuanced and it would just make me depressed to see that thrown away to focus on... human nobles. Again.
So, yeah. Having choices is the best option, but if we DON'T have choices I hope the game won't be geared toward special snowflake humans again.

Yeah, as much as I like the idea of something like this happening, humans are still the most popular race. However, I hope the next game centers on a concept that makes more sense for other races too.
I loved having the race option in DA:I but dwarves and qunari especially felt really tacked on. I think ultimately what people are wanting is a protagonist with a default perspective that's not Noble Andrastian Human, not necessarily another full out race lock.

I would like playing as a non-noble human, though, particularly a barbarian, although I wouldn't hold my breath about that. If we do go to Tevinter, I wouldn't be surprised if the warrior/rogue humans are soporati.

I'd rather not be forced to play an elf.

And when someone jumps in and reminds me that "The Dalish have their own culture that is distinct from the boring and white-bread Andrastian human one!", I automatically recall that their culture and society is a scion of overused tropes and clichés that for a long time been associated with fantasy elves,
Exactly. I'm not anti-Dalish, I don't dislike the DA elf lore, but they don't really do anything for me either nor are they anything new, so I don't see how the DA humans get all the contempt while the elves get praised for being different. "Lofty immortals fell from grace because of their own corruption, their time is long over, and now their descendants are merely a caricature of a shadow of their ancestors" is basically as stereotypical as fantasy elves get -- just as that "half-starved babyteen" look is.

I for one would rather play a Tevinter be they dwarven, elven or human than be forced to play dalish again. We've explored the dalish in two games and a bit of city elvesin in one. I want to learn more about Tevinter, its culture and its relations to the dwarves who they apparently hold in high regard in spite of having no magic and the elves they don't hold so highly unless their mages. We keep seeing Tevinter though the outside and though its its fringe elements such as cultists, rouge mages and slavers but that doesn't really give a real taste of what its people and main cultures are really like.

Human mage in dao had nothing to do with nobility in fact this is something that came up in da 2 and by that noble status had no impact in dao while playing human mage.

Well, if you consider dwarves and qunari not that interesting, others think the same about the elves.
Sure they have their lore. But so do dwarves and qunari, especially after what we find out in DAI. That whole titan stuff and dragon blood.

I hope not. In the Dragon Age lore elves seem very thin children to me.

I would rather they just kept all 4 races, and put some effort into the non-humans next time. I hope future humans aren't Marchers, I would rather be and Ander or a Ferelden again.

I would never buy a game with a elven protagonist.
I have no interest in their history, its funny how many people says humans are boring, because, to me, the elves (both City elves and Dalish) are the boring ones.
How? The have real down to earth conflict and different perspective.

People like their boring human nobles for some reason and Bioware has to market to the mainstream. As long as we can play something else, the default can continue to be whitebread dull guy as far as I'm concerned.
I couldn't agree more with that. Especially the wording on those kind of characters.

Because personal taste differs, and there are more far more human-centric fantasy stories than there are elven stories? Some people find Andrastian humans and their culture to be boring, and have little to no interest in exploring their society any further; I'm one of those people who simply has no desire to play as an Andrastian human or to explore Andrastian culture.
"Lofty immortals fell from grace because of their own corruption, their time is long over, and now their descendants are merely a caricature of a shadow of their ancestors" is basically as stereotypical as fantasy elves get -- just as that "half-starved babyteen" look is.
You're certainly entitled to your opinion and your preferences. Personally, I prefer the Dalish elves to the Andrastian humans; I admire the People refusing to capitulate their religion and traditions throughout the centuries, their resilience from living a difficult life as nomads throughout the generations, their view of magic as a gift of the Creators, the clan taking care of each other as family, and the diversity among the many clans that populate the landscape of Thedas.

The sales would definitely suffer if it was elf-only.

I have no problem with people enjoying their Elves. But I much prefer Qunari and Dwarven lore and I like having them as an option; Qunari being my personal favorite.
But if I was locked into playing an Elf for DA4, I honestly wouldn't play the game. I like RPGs that let me chose who I am.
